THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF MEASUREMENT AND METRIC CONVERSION
METRIC SYSTEM OF MEASUREMENT The metric system is a system of
measuring. It has three basic units: m the meter for length kg the kilogram for mass S the second for time With those three simple measurements
we can measure nearly everything in the world!
METRIC TABLE A decimal system of units based on the
meter as a unit length, the kilogram as a unit mass, and the second as a unit time.
METER The fundamental unit of length in the metric
system, equal to 100 centimeters or approximately 39.37 inches.
KILOGRAM The base unit of mass in the International
System, equal to 1,000 grams (2.2046 pounds).
SECOND A unit of time equal to one sixtieth of a
minute.
