pounds, little better, [and] has a [hand] spanof nine inches across.”

“He [Jesus] is suffering all there is tosuffer. There is no suffering left apart fromHim. His emaciated, poured out, little, wormy spirit is down in the bottom of that thing[hell]. And the Devil thinks he’s got Himdestroyed.”

“The Word of the living God went downinto the pit of destruction and charged thespirit of Jesus with resurrection power!Suddenly his twisted, death-wracked spiritbegan to fill out and came back to life. Hebegan to look like something the devil hadnever seen before.”

“He [Jesus] was literally being rebornbefore the devil’s very eyes. He began to flexHis spiritual muscles . . . Jesus was bornagain –the firstborn from the dead the Wordcalls him–and He whipped the devil in hisown back yard.”

“Heaven has a north and a south and aneast and a west. Consequently, it must be aplanet.”

“You don’t think earth was first, do you?Huh? Well, you don’t think that God mademan in His image, and then made earth insome other image? There is not anythingunder this whole sun that’s new. Are youhearing what I am saying? This is all a copy. It’s a copy of home. It’s a copy of the MotherPlanet. Where God lives. He made a little one just like His and put us on it.”

“God’s reason for creating Adam was Hisdesire to reproduce Himself. I mean areproduction of Himself, and in the Garden of Eden He did just that. He was not a little likeGod. He was not almost like God. He was not subordinate to God even. . . . Adam is asmuch like God as you could get, just the same as Jesus . . . Adam, in the Garden of Eden was God manifested in the flesh.”

“Adam was made in the image of God. He was as much female as he was male. He wasexactly like God. Then God separated himand removed the female part. Woman means‘man with the womb.’ Eve had as muchauthority as Adam did as long as they stayedtogether.”

Benny Hinn:“Adam was a super-being when God

created him. I don’t know whether you knowthis, but he was the first superman that reallyever lived. First of all, the Scriptures declareclearly that he had dominion over the fowls of the air, the fish of the sea–which means heused to fly. Of course, how can he havedominion over the birds and not be able to dowhat they do? The word ‘dominion’ in theHebrew clearly declares that if you havedominion over a subject, that you doeverything that subject does. In other words, that subject, if it does something you cannotdo, you don’t have dominion over it. I’llprove it further. Adam not only flew, he flewto space He was–with one thought he wouldbe on the moon.”

While I was in Costa Rica, MissionaryGene Ray Ward showed me a book,Christianity in Crisis by Hank

Hanegraaff. Although it was published in1997, I was still able to purchase a copyonline. This book deals with the so called“Faith” ministers, those preachers that say ifyou have enough faith then you won’t be sick and you will get rich. Such people as Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, FrederickK.C. Price, Robert Tilton, John Avanzini,Marilyn Hickey, David Cho, Charles Capps,Jerry Savelle, Morris Cerullo and PaulCrouch.

Much of what these people preach is true. However, some of what they preach isdownright weird. I thought I would give yousome quotes from this well documentedbook.

Kenneth Copeland:“[God is] not some creature that stands 28

feet tall, and He’s got hands, you know, asbig as basketballs. That’s not the kind ofcreature He is. . . . A being that is veryuncanny the way He’s very much like youand me. A being that stands somewherearound 6’-2", 6’-3", that weighs somewherein the neighborhood of a couple of hundred

“Had the Holy Spirit not been with Jesus,He would have sinned. That’s right, it was the Holy Spirit that was the power that kept Himpure. He was not only sent from heaven, butHe was called the Son of Man–and as suchHe was capable of sinning. . . . Without theHoly Ghost, Jesus would never have made it.. . .Can you imagine Christ headed for thegrave, knowing He would remain thereforever, if the Holy Ghost would change Hismind about raising Him from the dead.”

“Never, ever, ever, go to the Lord andsay, ‘If it be thy will . . .’ Don’t allow suchfaith-destroying words to be spoken fromyour mouth. When you pray, ‘If it be yourwill, Lord,’ faith will be destroyed. Doubtwill billow up and flood your being. Be onguard against words like this which will robyou of your faith and drag you down indespair.”

“Man, I feel revelation knowledge already coming on me here. . . .See, God the Father is a person, God the Son is a person, God theHoly Ghost is a person. But each one of themis a triune being by Himself–there’s nine ofthem.”

“He promises to heal all–every one, any,any whatsoever, everything–all our diseases! That means not even a headache, sinusproblem, not even a toothache–nothing! Nosickness should come your way.”

“He [the Holy Spirit] says, ‘God’soriginal plan is that the woman was to bringforth children out of her side.’. . . Adam gavebirth to his wife out of his side. It was sin that turned the thing around. . . . And it was sinthat transformed her flesh and her body. When God took the woman out of man, Heclosed up his rib. But she was createdidentically as him. In other words, she wascreated with an opening in her side, andchildren were supposed to be born. And I getthat from the very fact that you’ll never seebirth spiritually, except from the side.”

Frederick K.C. Price:“The whole point is I’m trying to get you

to see–to get you out of this malaise ofthinking that Jesus and the disciples werepoor and then relating that to you–thinkingthat you, as a child of God, have to followJesus. The Bible says that He has left us anexample that we should follow His steps. That’s the reason why I drive a Rolls Royce.I’m following Jesus’ steps.”

“Do you think that the punishment for our sin was to die on a cross? If that were thecase, the two thieves could have paid yourprice. No, the punishment was to go into hellitself and to serve time in hell separated fromGod. . . .Satan and all the demons of hellthought that they had Him bound and theythrew a net over Jesus and they dragged Himdown to the very pit of hell itself to serve oursentence.”

“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of theLaw, that the blessing ofAbraham might comeupon us. . . .How didGod bless Abraham? With cattle, gold, manservants, maidservants, camels, andasses. Abraham was blessed materially.”

“When you have developed your faith tosuch an extent that you can stand on thepromises of God, then you won’t needmedicine. That’s the reason I don’t takemedicine.”

“If you have to say, ‘If it be Thy will,’ or‘Thy will be done’–if you have to say thatthen you’re calling God a fool.”

Robert Tilton:“If you have a problem, any kind of need,

housing, transportation, situation in amarriage, you can release the creative–see, this all works by faith–the creative force ofGod into existence.”

“Being poor is a sin.”“Those prayer request forms have ink on

them and all kinds of chemicals. I laid on topof those prayer requests so much that thechemicals actually got into my bloodstreamand began to swell my capillaries. . . . It gotinto my immune system and I had two smallstrokes in my brain that brought about somenumbness in my body.”

John Avanzini:“Jesus had a nice house, a big house–big

enough to have company stay the night withHim at the house.”

“Jesus was handling big money becausethat treasurer He had was a thief. Now youcan’t tell me that a ministry with a treasurerthat’s a thief can operate on a few pennies. Ittook big money to operate that ministrybecause Judas was stealing out of that bag.”

“John 19 tells us that Jesus wore designerclothes. Well, what else you gonna call it?Designer clothes–that’s blasphemy. No, that’s what we call them today. I mean, you don’tget the stuff He wore off the rack. It wasn’t aone-size-fits-all deal. No, this was customstuff. It was the kind of a garment that kingsand rich merchants wore. Kings and richmerchants wore that garment.”

“You don’t think these Apostles didn’twalk around with money? I mean, they hadmoney. I just thank God that I saw this andgave up the denominational line and got onGod’s line before I starved me and all myfamily to death. Go to Acts 24. I mean, youdon’t think there wasn’t money in this Paul’slife? . . . Paul had the kind of money thatpeople, that government officials, would, would block up justice to try to get a bribeout of old Paul.”

I’ve run out of space, but I think you getthe idea.

"FAITH" MINISTERS

From the hymns to the Sunday Schoollessons, revival meetings and workshops, theissue of surrender is a reoccurring theme. Asa matter of a fact, it is an integral part of theterminology and definition of the ministry. We often hear of people "surrendering to theministry."

It is equally true that many people have atainted view of surrender. From pureobservation and personal experience I can say without a doubt that many believers viewsurrendering to God's will as a contract thatcomes attached with fringe benefits both inand out of this world. The psyche and spiritof our generation has perpetuated the lie thatdoing the right thing, or doing something ofspiritual significance caries a great reward, often expressed in materialistic terms. It is no secret that we live in a highly materialisticsociety. Unfortunately, the effects ofmaterialism have bled over in the Christianculture over the years to the point that there is a visible shift from Christ-centered worship to Self-centered ministry. The Walmart orDisney business model may work great whenit comes to the world of commerce, but in thechurch environment it can have devastatingconsequences both to the function and natureof the spiritual activity that takes place.

So, what is surrender? What does itinvolve, and what are the consequences of itin an individual's life? I believe that today'steaching and preaching should address andanswer these questions clearly and concisely.I will give a brief working definition anddiscuss surrender in the context of ministryand education.

Surrender is relinquishing your right to aself-appointed agenda and submitting to theagenda of someone of greater importance. When a person surrendered their life to God,they recognized (either privately or publicly)that they had resigned from their pursuits andembraced whatever desire or objective Godhad placed in front of them. The ApostlePaul gives his experience of surrender as:"...What things were gain to me, those Icounted loss for Christ." (Phil. 3:7b) andagain: "...Forgeting those things which arebehind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before." (Phil. 3:13b). Both thepurpose and scope of surrender are viewed asa constant "reaching" or "pursuing."

It is interesting to note that Paul's account of his life as a surrendered Christian involvesboth suffering and learning. After hisconversion he spends time with severaldisciples and alone in Arabia and during hisministry he suffers great persecution, dissapointment and even betrayal.

I can safely conclude that the surrenderedlife involves first and foremost a life-longcommitment to God's will and agenda forone's life. Accepting this fact makes thechanges that are ahead more palatable.

It also involves a commitment to learning. God wants to prepare us for whatever task He has for us and this preparation involveschange and learning.

It is especially critical for those thatsurrender to the ministry of the Gospel tounderstand the need for change and the needfor learning. How short-sighted is the youngpreacher that thinks he can recite thedoctrinal statement in the back of the SundaySchool Quarterly and that is all he needs to be able to disciple and teach others! Brethren,do not make that mistake! The commitmentyou have made to the ministry demands acommitment to learning both in a structuredschool environment, and also the learning that comes from life situations.

The surrendered life is marked bystruggles and the surrendered person ismarked by scars. Don't let this discourageyou! Leaders are sledom selected from theranks of the unscared. It seems that Godwants those that will act as the light of theworld and the salt of the earth to know thedepths of their suffering and at the same timeunderstand the inexhaustable supply of God'sgrace.

If you have surrendered to God's will foryour life, be prepared for profound changesand puzzling crisis. It is all part of the process of preparing you, shaping you, qualifiyingyou for the challenge and the prize.

God is the Master Designer; we may notunderstand the process or fully see thebenefits, but when we step back and view thedesign, it all makes sense. One day we willsee it all! Then, every step, every challenge, every ounce of pain and dissapointment willmake sense. For now, we can just rely on thefact that the Designer is faithful and what hehas planned is the very best. I pray that asyou struggle with these issues you will rest inthe faithfulness and grace of God. If you area minister, I hope that your commitment isfueled by a desire to please God and you willembrace the trials looking for the appearing of our Lord. He brings His reward with Him!

Surrender is a life-longcommitment to the will of God

This article on “The Way” is part of aseries on five marks in the lives of Christiansthat will cause the honest inquirer to bedrawn to their witness. We have noted so farthat “The Way,” as presented by Christ inJohn 14:6, speaks of a worldview that isexclusive and distinct from every otherworldview. In fact, Jesus speaks of only twopossible worldviews: the one that leads to life and the one that leads to death. The lastarticle noted also that the Hebrew and Greekwords used in the Old Testament and NewTestament for way were used in an exclusivecontext. Finally, it was noted that those whocharge Christianity with exclusive,narrow-minded claims are themselves making exclusive, narrow-minded claims when theyreject Christ as “The Way.” Continuing thistheme, the exclusive worldview ofChristianity differs from all other worldviews (the way of death) in several crucial ways.

“The Way” Contrasts With “the way” of Grief and Death

The Old Testament clearly warns that theway that man may choose apart from God’sway ultimately leads to pain and grief alongthe way (Prov. 14:13). It is said by Solomonto be a way that “seemeth right unto a man”(Prov. 14:12a). The way of death to fallenman may look reasonable and right. It iswarned against by contrast: “The way of theLORD is strength to the upright: butdestruction shall be to workers of iniquity”(Prov. 10:29). God warns that the temporalpleasure of other ways carries a heavy price:“Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten insecret is pleasant. But he knoweth not thatthe dead are there; and that her guests are inthe depths of hell” (Prov. 9:17-18). Solomon observes that “The way of the wicked [is] asdarkness: they know not at what theystumble” (Prov. 4:19). Man, declaresSolomon, is not even able to comprehendwhat causes him to fall, much less avoid thechasm. For example, the drug addict is oftenblind to the drug that is killing him.

Part 7 - DEFENSE OF “THE WAY”

5

“The Way” Contrasts with Man’sDisastrously Addictive Way

Further, Old Testament Scripture sadlyasserts that the way of man imprisons one in a lifestyle out of which it is hard to break.Proverbs 13:15 declares, “Goodunderstanding giveth favor: but the way oftransgressors [is] hard.” Hard (Hebrew +(!)means “perennial, ever-flowing . . .permanent . . . steady flow, permanence.”The way that is contrary to God’s way is notsomething that one can do for a while until he or she “gets it out of their system.” Thetransgressing becomes permanent or habitual. The person becomes the transgression. Theabuser of alcohol becomes an alcoholic. The

eye of the pornographer becomes addicted, never having enough. As Solomon notes,“Hell and destruction are never full; so theeyes of man are never satisfied” (Prov.27:20). The person who refuses to reason(consider the logic and evidence) loses hisGod-given ability to reason. This destructiveaddiction contrasts sharply with Christ’spromise, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36)

“The Way” is Devised by God, Not Man

Jeremiah confesses, “O LORD, I knowthat the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps” (Jer.10:23). Jeremiah here asserts that man mayplan. He may think that his plan can providereal meaning and ultimately a satisfyingpurpose, meaning, and value. He mayrationalize that he has power to bring trulysatisfying plans to fruition. However, Godsays through Jeremiah that He is stillultimately in control. Scripture thus claimsthat the contrary way eventually brings pain, grief and sorrow, a heavy burden, destruction, deceit, guilt, blindness, lack oftrue direction and eventual death andseparation for eternity from God. Only theway devised by God brings abundant life and eternal joy. As we will see in the later articles on “Tactics in Defending the Faith,” anobjective moral law can reasonably be shown to exist, and the existence of a moral lawsuggests a moral law giver.

Our next article will continue todemonstrate the dramatic and criticallydifferent life-choices between “The Way” ofChrist and “the way” that rejects Christ.

The way that is contrary to God’s

way is not something that one can do

for a while until he or she “gets it out

of their system.”

Page 6: The Baptist Anchor

How dare anyone ask that question! A bit personal, I thought, and somewhatembarrassing to this shy teenager many yearsago. It only meant one thing. Self-appointeeswanted to introduce me to someone and spiceup my life. No thanks. Iknew how to pluck pedalsfrom daisies while repeating,“He loves me, He loves menot”and was not ready toshare the outcome withinquiring adults. It was a funthing to do with young girlsof my generation and manyflowers were destroyed in the process. We could alwaysmake it come out the way we wanted and no one was hurt in the process.

My answer would be different today. I am all grown up and enjoy talking about the loveof my life when asked, as many have. Exceptfor health issues, all is well in our fifty yearmarriage. We are blessed! I have other lovesand each affects me differently. Love forchildren, grandchildren, extended family, friends, co-workers and yes agreat-grandchild. Add love for God, country, home and neighbors and the list goes on.

Defining love is almost impossible.

Someone has said love is demonstration, notinclination. Slogans designed to get ourattention in the love department have beenaround forever. Merchants would have usbelieve spending money in their particularstore is the best way to show our love. Someof us have scarcely packed our Christmasstockings and we are faced with heart month.Cupid is hanging in almost every storereminding us to show our love. Yes, it is hard to love without giving but love manifestsitself in many ways.

Love is giving and forgiving, sharing, honoring and comforting one another. Lovedemands respect, sacrifice, commitment,

care-giving along withlaughter, tears, andsleepless nights. Love willgrow when properlynourished. Definitions andcliches fail to adequatelyexplain love and leaves mewondering how I can love a grandchild, orgreat-grandchild monthsbefore seeing her for thefirst time. D and A maybe?

I choose to believe God brought it about. “And we have known and believed the

love that God hath to us. God is love; and hethat dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, andGod in him.” 1 John 4:16

God gave us love and loved us before weknew him. “We love him because he firstloved us.” 1 John 4:19.

The beginning of a new year is a goodtime to take inventory of our love life andcompare the marks of love found in 1Corinthians 13.

Pastors, missionaries and preachers camefrom all over Costa Rica and from Nicaragua.

I was privileged to speak infive churches (with missionariesWalter R. Goulding, CristianBenavides, Jamie Pardo andJimmy Cabrera) as well asspeaking twice a day during theconference. Barbara also sangwhile we were there. The seminary holds regular classes in Guadalupe(a suburb of San Jose) as well asholding classes in Southern CostaRica and up in Nicaragua. All ofthe missionaries we came incontact with are doing well and the work in general is growing. Wewere impressed.

Costa Ricawe were taken to a volcano, the rain forest andthe beautiful gardens at Hotel Bougainvillaea. However, the real attraction in Costa Rica isthe people. We have never witnessed suchsweet, loving people. The normal greeting is ahug and a kiss on the cheek.

Walter Goulding has a daily radiobroadcast and, although I do not understandSpanish, his broadcast is professional.

The traffic during rush hour isunbelievable. One day it took us almost twohours to go around 10 miles. To make matters worse, small motorcycles and scooters drivebetween and around the cars.

I was surprised to see almost every fast foodrestaurant in the United States also in Costa Rica.Of course Barbara had to shop at WalMart.

The price of everything we saw, including real estate, was on par with the States. Theonly thing less than the States are the wages, which are much less than half. We reallycould not figure out how the people surviveon such low income. All of the people werewell dressed and very clean and many drivenice automobiles.

We also met a couple, John and KathyWard (no relation to Gene Ray), who movedto Costa Rica and dedicated their lives to dophysical work on the church buildings. Theirministry (Hand-to-Hand Ministry) willreceive funds for projects but not for personal support. They have made a real difference inthe churches of Costa Rica!

If you ever have the opportunity to go toCosta Rica, by all means go!

THE DEAN'S DELIBERATIONS

Gary RedfieldDean of Students

(continued from last issue)

In this fifth and last part of the “In Searchof the scriptures” series, we will finish ourdiscussion of canonization.

In the last issue, I mentioned having abook titled, The Book of Jasher, which isreferenced in the Old Testament.Another book I have in my personal library, and like The Book of Jasher, also not included in the Biblical Canon, is a translation of TheBook of Enoch the Prophet, written during the first or second century. This book is not onlymentioned in the Bible, but Enoch 1:9 isfound reproduced in Jude 14 and 15. Thiscould be problematical because one of thetests for the authenticity of Old Testament books was to have a reference and/or quotation from them in another acceptedBiblical book.

Jude 14 clearly states that Enoch‘prophesied.’ If Enoch prophesied, then hemust have been a prophet, a fact that wouldfurther warrant its inclusion in the canon ofthe New Testament. Well, that might be trueif it was actually written by the prophetEnoch, but it was not. In fact, the book ofEnoch, as earlier stated, was written duringthe first or second century. That is a little latein the time continuum for it to have beenpenned by “the seventh from Adam.”

Some Biblical reference books state thatthe combination of Jude 14 and 15 is a directquotation from Enoch 1:9. I do not have thebook in its original language, and the Englishtranslation I have is not word-for-word thesame as in the King James version so I cannot confirm it to be a direct quotation, but it is very close. Also, considering the time ofwriting, I can not personally confirm whoquoted who.

Still, The Book of Enoch the Prophet was not included in the Bible. I remind you thatthe gospel writers quoted from the title placed on the cross by Pontius Pilot but that did notmake the title itself inspired Scripture. In likemanor, quoting or paraphrasing from TheBook of Enoch the Prophet did not make thebook itself inspired Scripture. However, while these books were not inspired Scripture, itshould be clear that they were and arepotentially useful books valued by theinspired Biblical writers.

While we are on the subject of Old

Testament quotations, Jesus Himselfreferenced twenty-four Old Testament books. The New Testament, in its entirety, references thirty-four books of the OldTestament. That leaves only five books of theOld Testament that are not quoted in the NewTestament. They are Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther,Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon. However, each of these books was part of alarger ‘collection’ of Old Testament booksreferred to in terms like the ‘history’ or‘poetic’ collections. Other books in each ofthese ‘collections’ were quoted in the NewTestament, which, in a way, validates eachcollection as a whole. In several places in theBible, Jesus referred to the books of the Lawand the Prophets in the collective sense.

Of significant note, none of theapocryphal books are quoted in the NewTestament. Some Catholic scholars have saidcertain passages in the New Testament makereference to the apocrypha. For mepersonally, the references are a bit too vagueto see the connection.

The New Testament was completedduring the last half of the first century. Whencompared to the years it took to complete theOld Testament, that is a very short period oftime. This time factor partially accounts forthe scarcity of references in one NewTestament book to another. There is,however, a significant reference in the second epistle of Peter. 2 Peter chapter 3, verses 15and 16 read as follows: “15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation;even as our beloved brother Paul alsoaccording to the wisdom given unto him hathwritten unto you; 16 As also in all hisepistles, speaking in them of these things; inwhich are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstablewrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”

When the Apostle Peter wrote theunlearned and unstable wrest all of Paul’sepistles as they do also the other scriptures,he has clearly indicated that all of Paul’sepistles are, in fact, Scripture!

Let me finish this series by pointing outthat, unlike the Old Testament with currentdisagreement on the inclusion of apocryphalbooks, all major religions claiming to beChristian accept the New Testament Canon’stwenty-seven books as authentic. Even theNew World translation of the Bible, published by the Watchtower, contains thesame twenty-seven books, albeit with contentchanges. The discussion presented in thisarticle series notwithstanding, the single mostimportant factor to remember is God’spromise to preserve His Word, not just inpart, or some books, but all of it!

In the middle ofwinter our Springsemester started asscheduled on January7th. We are thankfulthat all except onestudent returned, withthe addition of threenew students and tworeturning from prioryears. We alsowelcomed some newexternal studies

students. Dr. McAlister presided over theorientation session and discussed theaccreditation progress.

We were privileged to have missionaryDr. Hugo Mallozzi, who directs medicalprojects around the world under theMacedonian Missionary Service banner. Asspeaker in our chapel service he also had theopportunity to visit with Hugo Jr., who is afreshman at EBC. We also heard from Baptist Camp manager, Steve Dobson, who is aninstructor at EBC. My pastor, RobertAligood, presented a wonderful messageusing rope tricks that left everyone puzzledabout the tricks, but with the object lessonburned in their memory. Missionary DannyYoung presented the new work in Spring Hilland challenged the students to think big.Pastor Daryl Jones thrilled us with music,

song and sermon. He has been active inleading and encouraging students to sing, forwhich we are very grateful. Student TerryStevens delivered an excellent sermon whichconfirms our expectation of him. Student Erik Lutgert demonstrated that he has acquiredgreat proficiency in the pulpit.

February was a busy chapel month, starting with the Mattingly family, followedby student Roy Heinny's outstandingpresentation and Danny Jones, missionary toThailand, closing out the week. What a lovely family Danny has: wife Rachel and daughters Tiffany and Tara, who turned four on March2nd. The second week was no less exciting.Instructor/Pastor Jimmy Harris deliveredanother of his thought-provoking sermons.Student Daniel Garcon, a native of Haiti, presented his burden for Haiti with requestfor prayer for that country.

Former instructor/Pastor CharlieThornton, students Cole Dodd, DamienAustin, Charles Williams, Terry Stevens, andJames Berrien delivered powerful sermons inour chapel services. Dennis Doughman, from Baptist Mid-Missions started out last weekwith a wonderful drama depicting the life ofmissionary Hudson Taylor. February 27thwas the school's annual picnic. Phil. 1:3: “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.”

I came to this school in 2002 not knowing what to do in theLord’s work. Now, I understand clearly that I’m called to teach, and I’m preparingmyself for a teaching position.

With the opportunity given to write this article, I’d like to thank many people whohave made an investment in my college education.

As for our teachers first of all, thank you for your preparation and instruction over the years. From Tim Thompson’s “Defense of the Faith” class to Charlie Thornton’s “Oldand New Testament Survey” classes to Dr. Sam Maxwell’s “Theology II” class, I’vebeen wondrously blessed to learn from many gifted people. As Dr. Rick Adams wouldsay, “I am not worthy to touch the hem of their garments.”

Thank you as well to the administration and trustees for their leadership and underappreciated, and often overlooked, efforts.

Next, many thanks to the students who have been at the school since I’ve been here. Our times together in classes, chapel services, at lunch, and more have meant a great deal to me. From Charlie Hazelwood’s modesty to Michael Basey’s support to Deryl Jones’humor, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a member of our student body.

Another group of people who have had a big part in my education has been thecollection of churches that support our school. You have assisted in keeping our collegegoing strong through your contributions (in money, resources, and especially prayers).Your gifts have been so rich and vast, and our Lord will continue to bless you above andbeyond what you could expect in return.

For others not mentioned so far (such as chapel speakers), thank you also for theseeds you’ve sown into the ministry I have.

Thanks most of all to God for sustaining me through the years and allowing me thehigh privilege of having a part in His work.

In my time at the school, I have accumulated a plethora of memories that I’ll cherishfor the rest of my life.

May God bless you with His finest.

If you need to besure you are gettingyour potassium:

Good fruit sourcesinclude bananas, kiwi, cantaloupe, apricots, pomegranate, andtomatoes, including

tomato products. Vegetables containinggood potassium include dried beans thathave been cooked, potatoes with the peel and spinach.

We all need fiber; some good fruitsources are berries, apples, bananas, oranges, pears and of course prunes. These are a very good source of fiberwhich assists in moving the food through the digestive tract.

Some of the vegetable sources arepeas, potatoes with the peel, dried beansthat have been cooked, lentils, spinachand winter squash.

We are all very interested inantioxidants so once again, looking atfruits: berries, (particularly, blueberries, cranberries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries), out of season, frozen areas good as fresh; apples with the peel butbe sure that you cleanse well, cherriesand black plums are also good. Forvegetables, it is artichokes, spinach, redcabbage, red and white potatoes with thepeels, sweet potatoes and broccoli. Ofcourse beans are a good bet, small redbeans, red kidney beans, pinto beans andblack beans.

Monthly Mission ReportFebruary 2008

Thou therefore, my son, be strong inthe grace that is in Christ Jesus.

(2 Timothy 2:1)

As our trials increase, we need togrow stronger in that which is good;our faith stronger, our resolutionstronger, our love to God and Christstronger.

This is opposed to being strong inour own strength. We are not strongenough on our own to be able tohandle the situations that we face in

life. Currently, as students, we are in a time where we needto allow the Lord to be our strength as we prepare for ourmid-terms here at the school. We need to depend on God tohelp us recall what we have studied throughout thesemester. So, just as Paul was encouraging Timothy, allowme to encourage you to not depend on your strength, butrather allow Christ to provide the strength that you need as He has promised us in His word.

The Spring semester is going great. Everyone isexcited and anxious about the finals which areapproaching. All of our students are involved in full time or part time ministry in their respective churches. Pray for usas we serve the Lord and prepare for what's ahead.

In 1904 William Borden graduatedfrom high school. As heir to the BordenDairy estate, he was already amillionaire. His father sent him, alongwith a servant, on a trip around theworld. As he left for his ship, his fathergave him a new Bible and the boy readit during his travels across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. William’s heart was grabbed by whathe saw of the teeming millions without Christ and withouthope. He wrote his father that he intended to serve Christon the mission field. As he thought of the danger andsacrifice ahead of him, he wrote in the back of his Bible“No Reserves.”

When William returned to the States he enrolled inYale to prepare for the ministry. Graduating with honors,he entered Princeton Seminary, turning down manyimpressive offers and the opportunity to replace his fatherin a few years. As he entered seminary he wrote two morewords in his well-worn Bible: “No Retreats.”

William finished seminary three years later and wasaccepted as a missionary to China. Saying his goodbyes tofamily and friends, he sailed for the Orient, stopping inEgypt for further preparation. While in Egypt he becameill and died a month later—dead at 25 years of age.

When William’s father sorted through his son’spersonal belongings, he thumbed through his well-usedBible and found two more words his son had written on hisdeath bed: “No Regrets.” No reserves, no retreats, and noregrets! What a way to live and die!
