Are you a mum in business? Are you a mum

thinking about starting a business? 70% of Australian

women have thought more about pursuing a business idea since

becoming a mother, according to Australian mothers surveyed in

the Huggies® MumInspired® report.

Mums in Business

As a Mum myself, I love working with, chatting with and encouraging other mums thinking of starting

or who have already taken the leap and have their own business. The ‘Mumpreneur’ community is a

gorgeous one to be a part of. If you’re a mum with a Tiny Tutus Ballerina and you’ve taken the business

leap or you’re thinking about it – I’d love to hear your story from you! Send us some info about your

business at [email protected] Warm Tutu Regards, Tiny Tutus Principal, Simone Cadell.

Kirsten has worked with us at Tiny Tutus for many years now, taking our amazing Recital photos.

She not only loves capturing the exciting moments of your ballerina’s first recital but also the bond

between mother and child, the snuggles and kisses with new little families and the tickles and piggy

back rides with your kids.

Kirsten says “I will always do my best to get those desired shots of everyone looking and smiling,

but for the most part it’s simply you being you with your family.”

Where

shall we

twirl?

This year Tiny Tutus has twirled across the

country with classes from Perth to Sydney,

Darwin to Melbourne and dozens of marvellous

places in between.

We are currently in the planning stages for

2015.

Where would YOU like to see Tiny Tutus

twirling?

We have lots of new locations starting next

year which we’ll be announcing in the coming

weeks.

If you have a location you’d like us to open

we’d love to hear from you! We need five

little ballerinas to open classes in your area.

Our Tiny Tutus Recital is quite simply a beautiful, happy,

magical opportunity for little ballerinas

Each recital is only 45 minutes long and our parents are more than welcome backstage. Every

ballerina receives a beautiful, age appropriate Tutu that needs no sewing, sequinning or

trimming. All recitals and rehearsals are during the day so no tired little bodies. Absolutely no

makeup is required, we think our gorgeous little performers are perfect just how they are!

Taking Care Of Your

Recital Tutu

This time of year is super exciting for all little ballerinas

with rehearsals, recitals and most of all, the arrival of their

beautiful recital tutu. Keeping your tutu in pristine condition

is important and very easy with a few simple steps.

Please do not wash your tutu. If you feel the need to

freshen up your tutu you can give it a light spray with

an odour eliminating product such as Glen 20 or

Febreeze and hang it up somewhere to air.

We highly recommend ironing your tutu using a cool

gentle iron and ironing each layer of the tulle skirt one

at a time. Please ensure that you put a cloth such as a

tea towel or a handkerchief on top of the tulle before

ironing it some tulles will melt with heat. Please do not

iron the body of your tutu.

Please store your tutu by hanging it upside down with

the crutch hooked over the hook of a coat hanger.

To transport your tutu you can fold it up by holding it

by the crutch and folding the tulle skirt down over the

body of the tutu. Then roll up the tutu and put it in a

bag.

Tutu Times – Term 4 2013

Page 6

To make the hearts you’ll need:

yarn or wool

heart shaped cookie cutter (or another

shape if you want different shaped

wands)

¼ cup corn starch & ½ cup water or

you could use watered down glue

wax paper

sequins, ribbons and fun bits and

pieces for decorating

glue for sticking on decorations

Page 6

Page 10: The Ballet Bulletin

Tutu Times – Term 4 2013

1. Heat up 1/4 cup corn starch with 1/2 cup

water over medium heat until it is

translucent. Wait until it cools before

starting. (NB: You can also use watered down

glue such as Clag – we used this as it’s what I

had on hand & it worked perfectly.)

2. Cut yarn or wool into pieces about 20cm long.

3. Have your ballerina dip the wool into glue and

then place into the cookie cutter heart or other

shape you have chosen.

It takes a while to dry so if you want to speed

that up–set them in the oven on parchment

paper set to warm for an hour or so.

How-to make the Princess WANDS: we used lollipop

sticks that we had on hand, tulle, ribbon, jewels,

sequins and pearl strings. We used a hot glue gun to

decorate the wand with our ballerinas pointing to

where they wanted the glue, an adult applying the

glue and our ballerinas popping on the decoration.

A stronger wood or craft glue wood work just as

well and then your ballerina could

put the glue on herself as well!

This is such a gorgeous ballerina card and so easy for your little one to make!

These are magic as gifts for teachers, birthday invitations or cards for friends

– because truly, who doesn’t just love tutus!!

Things you’ll need:

* White paper or cardboard

* Pink paper or cardboard

* Cupcake cases

* Scissors, glue

* Choose what you’re going to decorate your

tutu with ribbon, glitter, sequins…

1. Fold the white paper

in half. (To ‘jazz it up’ a

little I made the corners

round with a corner

punch – you can get

these from places like

Kmart or BigW in the

scrapbooking section)

Page 8

Page 12: The Ballet Bulletin

Show us your tutu craft!! Take a picture of your ballerina

making her tutu craft or with the finished piece and send it in

to us!

We’d LOVE to see the tutu craft your ballerina creates!

2. Fold the cupcake liner in half.

3. Draw and cut out a simple leotard

from your pink paper

4. Every Ballerina loves a little ‘bling’.

Decorate your tutus however you like. We

suggest using some seed pearls and little

rosettes.

5. All finished!!

Little Ballet Helpers Tips and Tricks for your little ballerina

The Five Basic Ballet Positions

Glossary

Means "bend". A smooth and soft bending of the knees. Knees moving

outwards, backs held up straight (Don’t let your princess crown fall off!)

Means "stretched". Pointing one leg to the front, side or back until only the

toes are touching the floor.

Means "jump". Can be done in any of the basic ballet positions. Making sure

legs are stretched and feet are pointed in the air

Plié

Sauté Tendu

Page 14

Your heels should

be touching with

your toes turned

out. Hold your

arms in front of

you in an oval

shape.

Now move your feel apart.

Open your arms wide but

don’t stretch them back.

They should be slightly

rounded and in front of you.

Cross one foot in

front of the

other. Bring one

arm curved in

towards you and

the other out to

the side.

Put one foot in

front of the

other with a space

between. Raise

one arm curved

above your head

and the other out

to the side.

Finally, have one

foot exactly in

front of the other

but this time

closed together.

Raise both arms up

in a beautiful

ballerina oval.
