• We have a lot of their main foods here such as– Fish– Meat– Chicken– Cow– Other different sea foods like

squid, shark, tuna, etc.

Dining Etiquette If you are invited to a

Bahamian’s house:• Arrive on time if invited

to dinner; no more than 15 minutes late if invited to a barbecue or a large party.

• Dress well, in clothes you would wear to the office. Dressing too informally may be misconstrued as a lack of respect towards your hosts.

Watch your Table Manners!• Do not sit down until you are invited to

starts. • Table manners are Continental -- the

fork is held in the left hand and the knife in the right while eating.

• Meals are often served buffet style or family-style.

• Keep your elbows off the table and your hands above the table when eating.

• It is considered polite to finish everything on your plate so you do not appear wasteful. If you cannot, you may leave a small bit of food on your plate.

• Tourism is the engine of the Bahamian economy. – The sector employs half of the workforce– They produce three-fourths of foreign exchange

earnings– Main tourist infrastructure is located in Nassau,

but tourism is also in the Family Islands

Current Standard of Living• The Bahamas has two major

public hospitals• Government health clinics are

located in many communities all throughout the nation

• Healthcare professionals provide home care for specific family and individual needs

• Lack of medicine and modern equipment are the most significant deficiencies in the public sector.

• The Bahamas has one of the region's highest rates of AIDS per capita.
