President/CEO
As the saying goes “There
is no place like home”! I
am excited and honored
to be back here at the
Babcock Center as your
new President & CEO. I
am humbled to be follow-
ing in the footsteps of our
retiring President &
CEO, Dr. Judy Johnson.
Dr. Johnson has provided
great leadership for all of
us over the past years.
She has shown proven
dedication and commit-
ment to the people we
support and we must continue to improve on her legacy here in the future. We
wish her the best of luck in her next phase of life!
When I started here at Babcock Center as a DSP, I fell in love with our consum-
ers and the commitment to providing them with the best possible care that I
could. Throughout my career here and throughout the system at other providers
that I have worked for, that commitment has not changed. I pledge to work with
everyone here keep Babcock Center as the leader in the State with providing
supports to people with lifelong disabilities. As we continue to work together as a
team and build relationships and partnerships there is nothing that we cannot
accomplish!
Again, I just want to say that I am excited about our new journey together here
at Babcock Center. I am honored to have worked for all four of the previous
Presidents here and will do my best to uphold the prestige and excellent ground
work that they have laid for me to follow. The Babcock Center is a special place
to live and to work, so as we work together as a team, we will make it shine
brighter throughout the State!
Thoyd B. Warren

As many of you know, I have made the decision to retire as Presi-
dent/CEO from the Babcock Center, effective May 25, 2018. It has
been my profound honor and privilege to have been given the oppor-
tunity to make a positive difference in the lives of people with lifelong
disabilities and their families over the last sixteen years. I believe
that, with the support of our dedicated staff, we have made great im-
provements in the way we support individuals at the Babcock Center
and have empowered them to become as independent as possible and
live happy, enriched, meaningful lives.
As I move into this next chapter of my life, I plan to spend quality
time with my grandchildren and to work with various local mission
projects at my church. I want to personally thank each of you for
your support and encouragement over the years. Together, we have
embraced the mission of supporting people with lifelong disabilities
to enjoy life, by promoting abilities and respecting choice. I wish you
all the best and know that Babcock Center will continue to be a lead-
er in our industry for many years to come.

Babcock Center Names Employer of the Quarter
Each quarter, Babcock Center recognizes an exceptional employer who has not only hired people
with lifelong disabilities, but has embraced them.
On Monday, April 23 Babcock Center’s Board of Directors awarded Walmart Store #1286 the
Employer of the Quarter award.
Walmart is committed to live out the values of service to customers, respect for individuals, striv-
ing for excellence, and acting with integrity each day. These values help Walmart to deliver busi-
ness results, as well as create a culture of inclusion.
Accepting the award for Employer of the Quarter was Kim Young, Human Resources Manager
for Walmart Store #1286. Kim believes that everyone deserves a shot and has been instrumental in
the hiring of 5 of our candidates in the Supported Employment Division.
Having a sincere heart for people to grow, to learn and assisting in making their dreams a reality is
the reason that Kim Young and Walmart Store #1286 were chosen as our Employer of the Quarter.

Making the Right Decisions
The South Richland Work Activ-
ity Center worked with the Co-
lumbia Police Department to
present “Making the Right Deci-
sions” training on March 8. Of-
ficer Rob Smith was the guest
speaker and trained the employ-
ees and individuals supported on
how to better prepare for the
work environment and protect
yourself in the workplace. He
also spoke about how to be a
good citizen in the community.
This was an amazing training for
all who attended!
Say YES To Making Dreams Come True
The Three Fountains WAC’s Transitions class had an amazing tour of David’s Bridal.
They practiced techniques to stay fo-
cused (which is hard to do when sur-
rounded by beautiful gowns) while they
learned about the job duties of different
associates. David’s Bridal learned that a
person we support, Johna Morgan, had
always dreamed of trying on a wedding
dress and getting married and they gave
her a chance to fulfill that dream. Johna
was able to select her dress and accesso-
ries and when she came out of the dress-
ing room there was not a dry eye in the
store. What an amazing experience for
all! They said YES to a day that won’t
soon be forgotten! Johna Morgan and Mildred Davis, WSI II
