7 Days/Week, December to February

• Conveyor Belts Carried Ice from Lake

• Railroad Spur Enabled Loading of Large Blocks for Delivery to New Haven, Bridgeport, NYC and Beyond

Babb’s History

• 1890’s- Babb Family Opens Picnic Area, Beach and Boat Rental

• Dance Hall Constructed Circa 1930

• Converted to Roller Rink in Late 1940’s

• 1977 – Babb Family Donates 7 Acre Property to Town of Suffield

• Citizens Restoring Congamond is Duly Recognized, Volunteer Organization Dedicated to the Preservation and Protection of the Congamond Lakes

• Loosely Organized Early 1970’s

• 1977: Incorporated as a Non Profit 501(c)(3)

• CRC to Renovate Rink and Use Revenues for Lake Maintenance

• Over 6,000 Volunteer Hours Invested: – Removal of Interior Seats & Other Materials– Complete Demolition of Rotted Walls & Roof– Concrete Floor Cut Out for New Plumbing– New Framing for Perimeter Area in Process– New 50 Year Roof Installed Over Rink Area

• 2006 Babb’s Listed on the National Register of Historic Places

in Matching Funds– Spent Approx. $100,000
