1. DEFINITIONS

The Society means The Australian Bazadais Cattle Society Inc.

Breed means the Bazadais breed of cattle

The Regulations means the regulations of The Australian Bazadais Cattle Society Inc.

The Bazadais Herd

Book Register means the book of the Society in which records of individual animals are kept, whether published

or not, contained in computer tapes, discs or other such information storage system. It is abbreviated

to "Register" throughout the regulations.

Full Blood It is recognised that Full-Blood for Bazadais is an international term used overseas to denote

Bazadais whose pedigree consists solely of animals of pure French Bazadais origin. To enable the

Society and its members to respond to pedigree

enquiries, particularly in respect of the potential to export, the Bazadais Herd Book

will keep a record of which Bazadais being used in Australia meet the international

definition of "Full-Blood."

Pure Bred Means the animal is registered by the Society as a pure bred. It denotes that a particular animal is

100% Bazadais as far as the Society is concerned. (15/16 is recognised as Pure bred in females and

31/32 for male cattle).

AI Sire AI Sire is a registered male Bazadais animal, may also be registered in a Bazadais/e Herd Book

inside or outside of Australia and considered by the Society as suitable for registration of progeny

born into herds of non - owner of the bull.

Donor Dam Donor Dam is a registered female Bazadais animal, registered in a Herd Book outside of Australia

and considered by the Society as suitable for registration of progeny born into herds of non - owner

of the dam. Particularly for imported embryo use.

Herd Designation is a unique identification for each herd. It comprises of three letters, allotted by the Society to each

herd accepted for registration. The herd Designation is part of the tattoo identification with which

each Bazadais or Bazadais infused animal must be identified with in the off ear or off and near ear

prior to registration.

Grade Denotes the proportion of the Bazadais blood in an animal.

Grade Code means the number or letter denoting the grade of an animal or the section of the register in which

the animal is registered.

Year letter means the letter denoting the year of birth of a registered animal.

Calf drop Number Means the consecutive number allotted by the herd owner to each calf born in his herd.

Registered Owner is the owner as recorded in the Herd Book.

Breeder is the registered owner (or nominee owner) of the dam a the time of conception of

her calf /calves.

Breeding Year means the calendar year from January1 to December 31.

Member may be an individual, partnership or a company.

Nominee a member other than an individual must advise the Society of a nominee who is then recognised as

the representative for the member.

Service, Served

Mated by includes insemination by Artificial Insemination.

Stud Prefix means a word or words recorded by the Society to identify any herd. Up to 16 characters including

spaces may be used (minimum 2).

Name means a word or words recorded in the register to identify an animal that is in addition to the Stud

Prefix. Up to 16 characters including spaces may be used.

Identification in relation to an animal means the unique series of numbers and letters on the animal either as a tattoo

Identification is composed of Herd Designation, Grade Code, Year

Letter and Calf drop number.

Performance Recording The measuring of various items of performance of animals during growth particularly weight at 200

days, 400 days and 600 days; grade and conformation; milking ability (dams); scrotal circumference

and serving capacity (bulls).

2. MEMBERSHIP AND HERD ENROLMENT

(a) Membership

(1) Every member shall within 3 months of his admission, apply for enrolment of his herd and shall

with his application provide the information required in relation to his herd and tender the fees

which would be payable upon enrolment of his herd.

(2) Council shall allot to each herd on registration a herd designation for the exclusive use of the

registered owner of the herd. Each registered Herd Owner shall also apply to the council for

approval of a herd prefix which consists of not more than 16 characters including spaces and

which shall remain the exclusive property of the Herd Owner.

(3) A member of The Australian Bazadais Cattle Society can only be a member in any other

Australian Bazadais/e Breed Society, for a period of 6 months while transfering cattle accross

from another society to ABCS.

(b) Associate and Commercial

Membership Any person, partnership or company may apply to the Society for Commercial or Associate

Membership. This encourages breeders of cattle other than registered Bazadais and people,

companies or organisation who are not breeders of cattle but who wish to be members of the

Society.sHerd Prefixes are not registered for Associate or Commercial Members.

This entitles the member to be on the mailing list for all newsletters and promotional material, on a

trial basis for first two years.

(c) Junior Membership Any person under 18 years of age may apply to the Society for Junior membership. Junior members,

or junior partnerships, may apply to register animals if they are 16 years or above and have current

(junior) membership of The Australian Bazadais Cattle Society Inc. In order to register animals

these junior members must also apply for herd designation and stud prefix (and pay the appropriate

fees). In a junior membership, all partners must individually qualify for junior membership.The

name and address and signature of a legal guarantor must be sumitted with the application. All

applications, transfers and transactions must be counter signed by the approved guarantor.

Note: Junior membership is required to be upgraded to full membership status when the junior

member turns 18years of age.

Such upgraded full members shall retain their herd designation and stud prefix.

(d) Honorary

Life Membership The council may elect as an honorary life member of the society any person who in the opinion of

the Council is considered to have advanced the interests of Bazadais cattle. An honorary life

member shall have all the rights and privileges of a member.

(e) Joining Fee

Applies to Full stud membership, Commercial and Associate membership at a fee that shall from

time to time be determined by the council. No joining fee applies to Junior membership.

Members rejoining the Society or members transferring from another Bazadais breed Society are

exempt from paying the joining fee.

3. ELIGIBILITY FOR REGISTRATION

ONLY DNA PROFILE IDENTIFICATION IS REQUIRED FROM ANIMALS REGISTERED PRIOR TO 26.11. 2005

The Bazadais Recording Register shall contain the following sections:

(a) Grading up

Section Males and Females may be admitted to the Grading-up section. Animals eligible for registration will be

subject to DNA recording and may be subject to inspection..

All animals being graded up are subject to DNA Parent Verification except for First

Cross which is subject to a Sire Trace and DNA.

Animals registered in this section shall be given a Grade Code.

Application for registration of an animal in the Grading up Section shall be made on a form approved by

the council (see Appendix II) before the animal is 365 days old (12 months).

Application for registration made after 365 days (12 months) from the date of birth of the animal shall be

charged at the prescribed late fees.

Application for registration of an animal when it is older than 15 months of age shall be subject to

council approval.

Females Females by a registered Full blood Bazadais sire out of a base female of any breed or cross of any breeds

may be admitted to the Grading-up section.

Females shall be entered according to the following grades:

0 = Base Dam

1 = Half bred

2 = Three-quarter bred

3 = Seven-eights

P = Pure bred Bazadais in the Australian Herd Book

Males Only Full blood bulls are eligible for use in Grading-up programmes

Males may only be registered as pure with an additional cross.

(b) Pure Bred

Section Animals in the following Categorises may be admitted to the Pure Bred Section:

(1) Animals registered as full-blood or pure breds in other recognised Bazadais

breed organisations must be presented to the Australian Registrar for verification.

(2) Animals bred in Australia whose Sire and Dam are registered in the Pure Bred

section.

(3) Animals whose parents are a registered Bazadais Full Blood Bull and a registered

7/8th female. Should such animals be born outside Australia and be intended for

import into Australia they shall comply with Clause (1) of this section before

Australian registration as Pure breds may be bestowed upon them.

(4) Animals in this section will be subject to DNA Parent Verification and may be subject to inspection.

Animals in this section will be given a grade code "P". Application for registration shallbe made on

a form approved by the council before the animal is 365 days old. A late fee will be charged for

registration if the animal is over 365 days old (12months). Application for registration made after

the animal is 15 months old will be subject to council approval.

(c) Full blood A Full blood is defined as an animal of Full French Bazadais origin as determined by DNA,

and parent verification.

(d) Calf Recording

(1) No animal shall be Calf Recorded other than by a member of the Society.

(2) All animals submitted for Calf Recording shall be on the prescribed B1 registration form.

(3) All applications for Calf Recording shall be submitted within 12 months of birth.

(4) All calves submitted for Calf Recording must be tattooed in accordance with ABCS Herd Book

Identification rules.

(5) Calves must have full registration certificate to be eligible for transfer.

(6) To be eligible for Interim Calf Recording an animal shall be the progeny of a sire and dam both with full

registration in the ABCS Herd Book.

(7) All applications for Interim Calf Recording shall be submitted within 12 months of birth. No DNA and

Parent Verification required at this time.

(8) Interim Calf Recorded cattle can be upgraded to full registration before 24 months of age upon

submission of their Interim Calf Registration certificate together with DNA and Parent Verification

certificate, and payment of prescribed registration fee.

(9) Upgrading to full registration after 24 months of age will incur late fee as shown in fee schedule.

Appendix 1.

(10) Weaned calves must have a full registration certificate to be eligible for showing.

(11) Alternatively calves can be fully registered, with DNA and Parent Verification before the age of 12

months without Interim Calf Recording for the fee as shown in fee schedule. Appendix 1.

(e) Identification Every animal born and eligible for registration shall before it is 90 days be permanently marked by tattoo

in the ear with its identification according to the following system: Herd Designation, Grade Code,

Year Code followed by the Calf Drop Number in the off ear or:Herd Designation and the Grade Code

as tattoo in the off ear, with the Year Code followed by the Calf Drop Number as a tattoo in the near

ear. The calf drop number must consist of at least 3 (if not 4) numerals, with leading zeros included

where appropriate, and the year code letter may be inserted above the numerals or precede the numerals.

If you opt for the tattoo in one ear you must also brand.

In the event of a mistake being made, an X should be placed alongside the wrong number and the correct

number be tattooed and the Society notified of the correction.

(f) Dehorning Dehorning of cattle will be the decision of the breeder or owner of the beast.

If an animal develops scurs of any length after it has been registered as a Poll the owner must notify the

Society which will bear the cost of re-issuing the Certificate of Registration after amendment to the

animal's "poll" record. All Full Blood Bazadais are classed as horned, any Bazadais registered as poll are

to be born poll.

4. DE-REGISTRATION

(a) Any animal may upon the written application of its registered owner be de-registered as at a specific date

and shall be recorded.

(b) The Council may -

(1) Decline to enter any animal on the Register or to record the transfer of any animal if the appropriate

fees are not paid.

(2) Cancel or defer any registration of an animal if the person recorded as the owner of such animal

shall fail to pay to the Society within 60 days after demand, the monies certified by the Society's

Auditor to be payable whether such monies payable in respect of Annual Subscription or other fees.

(3) Defer the entry in the register of any animal sold, exchanged, leased or otherwise disposed of if no

application for transfer for such animal be lodged with the Society pursuant to these regulations or

in any particular case if the prescribed fee be not paid within 90 days of transaction.

(c) Subject to the proviso to regulation (3) hereof, de-registration of any animal shall not affect the

registration of any calf of which such an animal is the sire or dam if the registration of such calf was

recorded during the period of registration of such animal. De-registration alone shall not constitute a

disqualification from re-registration.

5. MULTIPLE OWNERSHIP

(a) There will not be more than 4 owners who are members of ABCS of any sire or dam, one of whom for

recording purposes shall be designated to be the Nominee Owner. Such multi-ownership will only be

recognised in terms of quarter-share (25%) units.

(b) When a sire or dam has multiple owners, a copy of the agreement of entitlement and a copy of the names of

the representatives and the partner deemed to have possession must be recorded with the Society which shall

record a nominee owner on its computer files.

(c)

The registered owner (or nominee owner) of the donor dam at the time of conception shall be known as the

breeder of the resultant progeny.

6. TRANSFER OF ANIMALS AND EMBRYOS

(a) Application for transfer of any animal registered with The Australian Bazadais Cattle Society shall be

forwarded to the Society by the animal's registered owner on the forms approved by the Council.

The owner shall complete the transfer certificate set out on the back of the Registration

Certificate, and forward it to the Society together with the transfer fee and levy as prescribed, within 90

days of the date of sale. Transfer forms received by the Society after 90 days must be accompanied by a

"late fee" to be accepted.

The prescribed fee applies to all registered animals.

Every animal shall be registered and the registration fees paid by its owner before it is transferred.

Transfer fees shall be paid to the Society by the Vendor.

(b) Transfer of a registered female with a calf at foot: - The breeding date of the cow must be substantiated

and the calf at foot registered by the vendor, and transferred to the new owner, as a separate transfer

application.

(c) Transfer of registered animals from overseas: - Applications for registration of animals transferred from

other countries must be signed by the importer showing date of importation and include certificates

verifying that they were registered in the country from which they came. If an animal is in calf, in order

to register progeny, in Australia, the service information must be verified by the recording Society in

which the service sire is registered.

(d) Section 11 of the Regulations describes Embryo Transfer and Frozen Embryos. The Society maintains a

Embryo Sub Register and each embryo is issued with an embryo Registration Certificate. If a registered

embryo is sold, the vendor is responsible for submission of the completed Record of Ownership Transfer

form, which exists on the reverse side of the Embryo Registration Certificate, within 90 days of the date of

sale. Only registered embryos can be transferred to a new owner and every embryo must first be registered

if transfer (sale) is applicable.

The prescribed transfer fee applies to any sale of registered embryos and a "late fee" is

applicable if record of transfer is received by the society later than 90 days after the sale.

(e) If a bull or female registered with the Society be leased for breeding purposes a copy of the agreement

signed by the Lessor and the Lessee shall be forwarded to the Society together with the appropriate fee

within 90 days of commencement of the lease agreement. The commencement date and intended completion

date shall be fully disclosed on the copy of the agreement forwarded to the Society. If the leased animal is a

female then the lessee will in all cases be considered the owner of the dam at the time of conception, and

any embryo and /or calf if such conception occurs during the period of the lease.

(f) The leasing of registered females / bulls shall include the provision for leasing of multi owned registered

animals. If such lease is required by another member of the Society then written endorsement is required

from all part owners before being approved by the society.

(g) The lessee of a female shall be the designated breeder and first owner of all embryos resulting from any

flush which occurs during the period of the lease

(h) Where an animal is the subject of a lease agreement a transfer application and prescribed fee must be

submitted by the lessor in favour of the lessee. At the expiration of the lease the animal shall be transferred

back to the lessor’s membership without fee.

7. DISPERSAL SALES

This regulation shall apply in all cases in relation to the promotion of any offerings under the heading

"Dispersal Sale" -

(a) A Vendor may dispose of interests in a section of his animals, embryo stock, semen or breeding service

contracts by advertising the details of such offering in a manner which

is unambiguous and which does not imply a complete or total dispersal of his herd, embryos, semen stock

or breeding service contracts.

(b) Any Vendor may offer to dispose of his entire herd, embryo stock, semen stock of breeding services

agreements by advertising and conducting a phased dispersal sale provided that all such dispersals

shall be in accordance with these regulations.

(c) A Vendor who offers a complete or total dispersal of his herd, embryo stock, semen stock or breeding

contracts shall catalogue and present for sale all registered animals, semen, embryos and breeding

contracts in which he had any interests (health status and viability permitting) and all such animals,

semen, embryos and breeding contracts and

all rights therein shall be offered in accordance with these Regulations, provided that the member shall

have the right to cancel the dispersal sale before its commencement.

(d) On completion of a dispersal sale, the vendor of the above mentioned interests will surrender the

right to use the herd prefix of the dispersed herd in the registration of any future calves of that breed.

8. MATINGS

(a) A member may use artificial insemination (A.I.) or Natural Service in a registered herd provided he/she

completes all information required on the Society's Mating Calving and Registration Data form (Form B1

- refer Appendix II). Only registered sires may be used.

(b) Owners of registered Bazadais bulls desiring to market semen that is intended for the production

of registered calves are required to :

(1) Notify the Society in writing of the intention to use a bull as an A.I Sire and

compete application for AI Sire Registration – See appendix X.

(2) provide a three-generation pedigree.

(3) provide a DNA certificate of the bull. Refer section 10.

(5) pay to the Society any registration fee in force from time to time.

(6) receive Society approval following inspection as required

(c) A current list of all registered AI Sires is available from the Society Secretary upon

request or Society Website.

(d) Registration of calf by non owned sire (other than by a registered A.I.Sire) requires completion of

Certificate of Service Form. See Appendix XI.

9. ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION

(1) The sires are to qualify under section 8.(b)

(2) Registered bulls having semen collected soley for owners use or gift are not required to qualify as

an A.I. Sire under section 8 (b)

10. DNA RECORDING

DNA Recording of all breeding stock is required to verify parentage.

DNA Applications are available from the DNA service provider.

11. EMBRYO TRANSFER AND FROZEN EMBRYOS

(a) Form B2 covering Embryo Registration Application (refer Appendix VI) within Australia can be obtained

from the Society prior to any collection of embryos. Within 180 days after the collection of embryos from

each donor dam a separate application Form B2 must be completed and returned to the Society together with

payment of appropriate fees for the preparation and maintenance of records in an Embryo Sub-Register.

Registration of live calves resulting from embryo collection within Australia can only proceed after

extraction of the necessary information from the Sub-register.

(b) The DNA and pedigree of the donor sire and the donor dam used in embryo transfer programmes are to be

supplied by the owners of the animals to the Society within 180 days of the collection or importation date of

embryos, if not previously on record with the Society

(c) Parentage determination certificates are required to determine actual sire if multiple

sires have been used for inseminating the donor female.

(d) Embryo Registration Certificates (refer Appendix VII) are issued by the Society to

the owner (or nominee owner) of any donor dam following operation (either surgical or non-surgical) for the

collection of embryos and satisfactory submission of the Form B2. A Record of Ownership Transfer is

printed on the reverse side of the certificate and must be completed by the vendor if an embryo is sold (either

frozen or in utero) before birth of the subsequent calf. .

(e) After receipt of prescribed fees and processing by the Society, this Embryo Registration Certificate is

forwarded to the new owner to be used to register the resultant calf.

(f) Recipient females must be ear-tattooed or ear tagged.

(g) Progeny born from embryo transfer will only be registered provided the member submits the relevant details

of calving on the Form B3 (which is on the lower half of the Embryo registration Certificate) before the

animal is 270 days old and also submits the prescribed registration fees.

12. PROCEDURES TO IMPORT SIRES, DAMS, SEMEN AND EMBRYOS AND

REQUIREMENTS TO REGISTER PROGENY

Before the Society can accept into its Herd Book any imported sire, dam, semen or embryos, it must receive:

(a) An export certificate from the recognised Breed Society of the exporting country verifying the transfer of

ownership.

(b) An extended pedigree to three (3) generations (in cases of embryos, for both parents).

(c) 1. For live animals and Semen:- DNA of the animal, or sire.

2. Embryos:- A separate DNA for each of the sire and dam.

(d) Payment of the prescribed fees as set out from time to time.

(e) Imported embryos must be recorded on the Embryo Registration Application Form B2 by the importer.

Embryos imported by any commercial genetic company will be required to be registered with ABRI before

sale to members.

(f) Owner/Breeders may transfer registered embryos either frozen or in utero in accordance with these rules by

completing Record of Ownership Transfer information on the reverse side of the Embryo Registration

Certificate.

(g) Recipient females must be ear-tattooed or ear-tagged.

(h) No progeny arising from imported embryos will be registered unless the application is submitted on the Form

B3 portion of the Embryo Registration Certificate first issued to the Australian importer of which has been

duly transferred by the importer who first registered such embryos.

(i) Live animals will be subject to an inspection by an inspector appointed by the Society at

the expense of the importer.

(j) All sires used for mating to prospective donor dams (with the expectations of Australian registration for

resultant progeny) must be either owned in the other country by the applicant or be approved by the Society as

an A.I. sire.

13. SOCIETY - SPONSORED SHOWS AND SALES

A clause must be inserted in all entry forms stating that the vendor agrees to abide by the rules and regulations of the

Society show and sale committee. Animals are subject to inspection and those not meeting the inspection criteria are

to be offered at the end of the sale. Animals with physical defects will be withdrawn from sale. Inspectors will be

appointed by the Society Council but not be named. The inspection panel must include a representative of the selling

agent(s). Prior to the commencement of a Society - sponsored sale the recommended upset price must be set by the

Society.

14. BAZADAIS BREEDPLAN - PERFORMANCE RECORDING

The Society approves and encourages members to record the performance of Bazadais, Bazadais-cross animals.

These records can be submitted to the Society for the processing of individual reports and the building of a suitable

data bank for analysis of breed performance at a suitable future date, when there are sufficient records. The Society

endorses the use of BAZADAIS BREEDPLAN, a system operated by the Agricultural Business Research Institute

(ABRI) for performance recording, which has been integrated with the Bazadais Recording Register. Further

information about BAZADAIS BREEDPLAN is available on request from the Society.

Members who utilise this service are requested to pay the prescribed fees for performance recording direct to

BREEDPLAN.

15. ERRONEOUS ENTRY

(a) Should any animal be admitted to entry or transferred through misrepresentation or fraud, the Council on discovery of

same shall declare the entry or transfer void; together with any entries that have been made of descendants of that

animal. The Council may direct the Registrar to refuse any subsequent application for registration or transfer

dependant on the signature of any person implicated in such fraudulent entry of transfer. Errors will be resolved as to

parentage by DNA testing.

(b) Notwithstanding anything herein contained, the Society assumes no responsibility, financial or otherwise, for any loss

or damage that may be sustained by any individual, partnership or company by reason of the suspension, cancellation,

or correction of any registration, transfer or other document or by reason of the rejection of any application for

membership in The Australian Bazadais Cattle Society.

16. FEES

The Council shall from time to time prescribe a schedule of fees levies and other

charges including penalties payable under these regulations and the times for payment thereof which shall be

appended to andfrom part of these Regulations (refer Appendix I).

The Society operates on a cash basis.

Registration fees are based on the date of the postmark, indicating the date mailed to the applicant.

Recording Instructions B1 Form current as at 1.8.2012

Interim calf Registration

General Instructions:

Allows members to interim record the birth of calves without the DNA and Parent Verification prior to 12 month of age.

1. No animal shall be Calf Recorded other than by a member of the Society.

2. All animals submitted for Calf Recording shall be on the prescribed B1 registration form.

3. Please mark your form YES for Interim calf recording as marked in top right hand corner of B1 form..

4. All applications for Calf Recording shall be submitted within 365 days of birth with the prescribed fee as shown in fee

schedule Appendix 1.

5. To be eligible for Interim Calf Recording an animal shall be the progeny of a sire and dam both with full registration

in the ABCS Herd Book. The exception is that of a first cross animal.

6. Interim Calf Recorded cattle can be upgraded to full registration before 24 months of age upon submission of their

Interim Calf Registration certificate together with DNA and Parent Verification certificate, and payment of prescribed

registration fee as per fee schedule Appendix 1.

7. Upgrading to full registration after 24 months of age will incur late fee as shown in fee schedule. Appendix 1.

8. The B1 recording forms can beobtained from the Secretary or downloaded from the website. Recording should be

neat and made firmly so that your copy is also clear.

9. The shaded sections of the form B1 must be recorded, unshaded sections are optional. Line zero gives and example of

the recording of a three quarter bred female calf in herd XYZ.

10. Dams of grades 1, 2, 3, P and Fullblood must be registered with the Society before their progeny will be accepted for

registration. Sires must also be registered with the Society.

11. Mail the top copy of the B1 form together with registration fees as per fee schedule. See Appendix 1.

12. If you have used a bull that is not owned by you, you must submit a Certificate of Service for non owned sire -

Regulation 8 (d) ) for each animal requiring registration. See Appendix XI of Regulations

13. The service certificate is not required if the calf is from semen you have purchased from an AI registered sire.

14. Forward to Registrar at ABRI within 365 days of calf birth.

15. File the second copy and associated paperwork for future reference.

16. If you wish to performance record you need to first take out separate membership with “BREEDPLAN”. Then mark

Y =Yes in the appropriate space at the bottom left hand corner of the Form B1. Thereafter, you should record details

of all calving, including still births. All live calves will be included on a computer printed list for recording weaning

weights at about 200days.

Once only and Full Registration of a Calf

General Instructions:

1. DNA profile and parent verification is required for all cattle put forward for full registration.

2. All animals submitted for registration shall be on the prescribed B1 registration form.

3. Please mark your form NO (not interim calf recording) as marked in top right hand corner of B1 form.

4. All applications for full Calf Registration shall be submitted within 365 days of birth with the prescribed fee as shown

in fee schedule Appendix 1.

5. The hard copy recording forms are self carboning. Or can be downloaded from the website. Recording should be neat

and made firmly so that your second copy is also clear.

Ident No. - this must be recorded accurately and includes:

HERD - The 2 or 3 character herd designation of the breed of the dam

GDE - grade, based on the code.

0 = Base Dam

1 = ½ bred Bazadais

2 = ¾ bred Bazadais

3 = 7/8 bred Bazadais

4 = 15/16 bred Bazadais (male only)

P = Purebred (15/16 or above for female – 31/32 or above for male)

F = Full Blood Bazadais (Full French traceable parentage)

YR - alphabetical year of birth code.

Fate – see codes at bottom of the Form B1

Permit – Y-yes: Dam is leased or breeder has a permit for its use: blank if not leased.

Breed - Record a breed for the base dams the first time they are used only. Do not record a breed for registered, crossbred or

purebred dams.

Examples of Breed Coding: Use 2 character codes See the attached sheet for the codes for the breeds.

1. Hereford sire and dam =HHHHHHHH

2. Angus sire x Hereford dam =AAAAHHHH

SIRE

Ident No. – All registered donor sires are given unique code by the society and these should be used for identification. Other

sires which have been bred in Australia will have an identification number in the Australian Herd Book and this will be printed

on their Registration Certificates.

Name – it is desirable to record the name of the sire or an abbreviation of it to assist in checking that the correct sire ident has

been used

Mating date – if the sire was joined by AI the mating date must be supplied. AI? Y=Yes: leave blank if paddock served.

CALF

Ident No. – used the same convention as for sire and dam ident. The NUMB part of the ident should correspond to the tattoo

on the calf’s ear e.g. 001. For the first calf dropped, 002 for the second and so on. The example on the line zero is for a three

quarter bred female; the fifth calf in 1999 XYZ2U005

The grade of any calf is determined from the following table by the grade of its sire and dam.

Birth Date – must be recorded accurately as day/month/year.

Birth weight (kg) – optional data, if recorded it must be in whole kilogram.

Calving Fate – optional data, all permissible codes recorded at the bottom of the form B1

Twin, Abnormal – Y= Yes, N=No

Colour – optional data, R=Red, BL=Black, BR=Brown, G=Grey.

Breeder (Nominated Member) should sign each form, attach fees and forward to the Society for processing within 365 days of

Dams to the Registrar at ABRI within 180 days of flush or importation.

4. File the second copy and associated paperwork for future reference.

5. DNA profile and parent verification is required for all cattle put forward for registration unless already on file.

6. Only DNA profile is required for all cattle registered with ABCS prior to 26.11.2005.

INFORMATION ON BAZADAIS BREED STANDARDS

For consideration by Bazadais enthusiasts in Australia

The following are a few characteristics to look for when considering Bazadais from the point of view of type and

conformation.

Overall Appearance is one of Balance:

The Bazadais has a refined outline showing good conformation and thinness of bone. Characteristically revealing

femininity, strength and vigour. An ease of movement enhances their athletic and mobile nature.

Coat & Colour:

Calves: - Born a beige to wheaten shade gradually becoming grey at about 3 months of age.

Cows - Coat is short the colour varying from light to dark grey

Bulls - Coat is short and smooth the colour varying from steel grey to lighter grey body and can have a dappled

appearance, showing darker colour from the shoulder forward and from the pin to the hock. The bulls invariably

have a white sword through the shoulders and withers to the middle of the back.

Height & Weight:

Cows - Average height 140 centimetres Average Weight 750kg

Bulls - Average height 145 centimetres Average Weight 1100kg

Head and Neck:

Head is triangular and of medium size, a good width of muzzle presenting an even bite (not over or under shot),

and an open nostril. The eye is clear, soft, but alert. Well hooded surrounded by a dominant silver circle with clear

mucous membranes.

The neck is neatly coupled to a sloping shoulder.

Shoulders and Chest:

A broad deep chest, a smooth brisket, carrying good meat coverage from the shoulder blade to the forearm with a

wide square stance.

Body:

Extreme length, exceptional spring and depth of rib with a full top line. Showing excellent meat cover from

behind the shoulder to the loin.

Hindquarter:

Showing straight top line with a well set tail. Good width of hip and excellent length from hip to pin, extending to

a wide ham like rump with full depth to the hock allowing a broad stance behind giving good air circulation to the

scrotum.

Legs and Feet:

Legs not showing excessive length are straight to a strong pastern, the hoof is hard, black with a good height of

heel, being even and free of corns and irregular hoof growth, making the beast adaptable to all terrains.

Udder:

Even square bag with well set teats of ideal suckling size, showing good maternal ability.
