PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL

Today we celebrate one of the tenets of our creed: that the Lord ascended into heaven. From Mark’s Gospel we hear the final words Jesus spoke to his disciples shortly before he ascended into heaven. Those were words of commissioning, no less real for us today than they were to the disciples then. We are called to “proclaim the gospel to every creature.” For the vast majority of us, this means that we proclaim the gospel by the witness of our everyday lives. Treating others with dignity and respect, providing for those less fortunate than ourselves, being good stewards of the many gifts showered on us, coming together as God’s family in worship and praise—these are all signs that the gospel has taken root in our lives.

Religious Education/Faith Formation

Applications for new students and returning students are now available in the school office from 7:45am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. New siblings (enter ing school for their first time) of current St. Barnabas students must also pick-up an application. Please submit the necessary copies of Sacramental certificates as requested on the application. *** You can also download an application via the school’s website: www.school.stbarnabaslb.org The school, mindful of its mission to be a witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students regardless of race, color or national and/or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, disability, sex or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs, although certain athletic leagues and other programs may limit participation and some archdiocesan schools operate as single sex schools. While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning the admission and continued enrollment of a student in the school are based upon the student’s emotional, academic and physical abilities and the resources available to the school in meeting the student’s needs.

Needs Of The Church

On behalf of the Landscape Beautification Committee, words cannot express how deep our appreciation is for Cub Scout Pack 32 for the awesome job they did in helping clear away years of weeds and overgrowth on the church property. Under the guidance of Cub Scout Leader, Laura Moller-Leon, the Scouts and their parents cut, chopped and dug their way through a small jungle of vines and unnamed plants. It is a blessing to have such a group of dedicated young men, and their parents, who do honor to their church. ========================================= Thanks to all who attended the Heads of Ministries meeting last week! It was very productive to get reacquainted with everyone and to hear ideas about future events coming up this year for our Parish!

Thank You!

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY: The mission of the Saint Barnabas Catholic Church Respect Life Ministry is to inform the people of the parish on the principles of Catholic social teaching, which have as their foundation the immeasurable dignity of every human person; to apply the teaching for authentic action on current local, national and international justice issues; and to develop a formed, organized constituency to advocate for public policy which affirms human life and human dignity and reflects a consistent life ethic. The Respect Life Ministry seeks to accomplish its mission both through the development and support of parish leaders, and in the broader community through collaboration with organizations serving the preservation of life. In the past we have participated in Pro Life Marches, Life Chains, presented literature at Planned Parenthood offices, sponsored Pro Life Dinners (along with the Knights of Columbus), and maintained an active presence on pro life websites with appropriate information and political action opportunities. If you are interested in any one of these items and want to be placed on our email list, please contact the Ministry Head, Bob Kalowes, at (562) 225-1946 or [email protected]. Always remember to pray for the dignity of human life from conception to natural death.
