“The word became flesh and dwelt among us.” John1:14.He is man’s sacrifice for sin. Isa.53:6.“Without shedding of blood is no remission of

sins.” Heb.9:22.

All the Levitical offerings were imperfect; Christwas the perfect sacrifice. Jesus Christ, our greatHigh Priest and Lamb of God, offered Himself ONCEfor ALL. He died for ALL men, but not all will acceptHis sacrifice upon Calvary. They will in the endhave to BEAR THEIR OWN SINS.

“Every morning and evening a lamb of a year old

was burned upon the altar, with its appropriatemeat offering, thus symbolizing the dailyconsecration of the nation to Jehovah, and theirconstant dependence upon the atoning blood of Christ.” Patiarchs & Prophets, p.364.

“Christ was the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. To many it has been a mystery why somany sacrificial offerings were required in the old

dispensation, why so many bleeding victims wereled to the altar. But the great truth that was to bekept before men, and imprinted upon mind andheart, was this, ‘Without shedding of blood is noremission.’ In every bleeding sacrifice was typified‘the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of theworld.’

“A lesson was embodied in every sacrifice, impressed in every ceremony, solemnly preachedby the priest in his holy office, and inculcated byGod Himself – that through the blood of Christalone is there forgiveness of sins.”

The Laver. - Ex.30:17-21.

The Laver was between the brazen altar and thedoor of the sanctuary. This laver was made of brass. V.18, and was used to wash withal.“That all impurity might be removed.” (4 Test.

P.159.)“All that officiated in the sanctuary were requiredof God to make special preparation before enteringthe place where His glory was revealed.”

“The priests were to wash their hands and theirfeet whenever they went into the sacredapartments, or approached the altar to offer aburnt offering unto the Lord.” Christ in HisSanctuary, p.26.

“Thus was constantly taught the lesson that alldefilement must be put away from those who wouldapproach into the presence of God.” (ibid.p29)

Death was the penalty for not doing this.Ex.30:20,21.

“Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,

he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” John 3:5.

“As the people in the court beheld the priests washin the water before they performed the work of theholy office, may it not have taught them the truththat Christ gave to Nicodemus.” The Cross and itsShadow, p.179

Christ gave Himself for the church that “He mightsanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water bythe word.” Eph.5:25,26.

“--- by the washing of regeneration, and renewingof the Holy Ghost.”

Titus 3:5.

All sin must be removed before we can enter God’spresence.

“The divine grace alone which He (Jesus) can

impart is as living water, purifying, refreshing, invigorating the soul.” D.A. p.187

THE HOLY PLACE – Tabernacle of the Congregation.

The Table of Showbread. – Ex.25:23-30; 37:10-16.

“The table of showbread – was overlaid with puregold. On this table the priests were each Sabbathto place twelve cakes, arranged in two piles, and

sprinkled with frankincense. The loaves that wereremoved being accounted holy, were to be eaten bythe priests.

“The showbread was kept ever before the Lord as aperpetual offering. Thus it was a part of the dailya=sacrifice. It was called showbread, or ‘bread of the presence’ because it was ever before the faceof the Lord. It was an acknowledgment of man’s

dependence upon God for both temperal andspiritual food, and that it is received only throughthe mediation of Christ.” Patriarchs and Prophets, p.354,355.

Jesus said, “I am the bread of life; he that comethto me shall never hunger.” “I am the living breadwhich came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread he shall live forever: - - Except ye eat theflesh of the Son of man - - you have no life in you(eternal life). And I will raise him up at the lastday.” John 6:35,51,53,54.

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by everyword that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”Matt.4:4.

The Seven Branched Candlestick. - Ex.25:31-40;37:17-24.

“And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made.”Ex.25:31.

It was made of gold beaten into shape by theworkman’s hammer. It took many a hard andskilful blow to form these delicate flowers andbowls.  Cross and its Shadow. P.50.

“In like manner, it takes many trials andchastisements to eradicate pride, envy andcovetousness from the people of God, and blendthem into one complete church, ‘without spot, orwrinkle, or any such thing.”  Seer of Patmos, p.367.

“In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.And the light shineth in darkness; and the darknesscomprehended it not. That was the True Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into theworld”. John 1:4,5,9.

Every man who receives light is to reflect this lightto the world.

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set onan hill cannot be hid.” Matt.5:14.

“O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in thelight of the Lord.” Isa.2:5.

“Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, anholy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shewforth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Pet.2:9.

Israel were God’s chosen people. They were to be alight unto the Gentiles. Deut.10:15; Ex.19:5,6.

The Oil used to light the candlestick is symbolic of the Holy Spirit, who gives us light to understandGod’s Word. The lamp stand was made of puregold. “Faith and love are the true riches.” 4T.p.89.

The Altar of Incense. - Ex.30:1-10; 37:25-29;

“Just before the veil separating the holy place fromthe most holy and the immediate presence of God,stood the golden altar of incense. Upon this altarthe priest was to burn incense every morning andevening, its horns were touched with the blood of the sin offering, and it was sprinkled with bloodupon the great day of atonement.

“The fire upon this altar was kindled by GodHimself, and was sacredly cherished. Day andnight the holy incense diffused its fragrancethroughout the sacred apartments, and without, fararound the tabernacle.

“The incense, ascending with the prayers of Israelrepresents the merits and intercession of Christ,His perfect righteousness, which through faith isimputed to His people, and which can alone makethe worship of sinful beings acceptable to God.

“By blood and incense God was to be approached –symbols pointing to the great Mediator, throughwhom sinner may approach Jehovah, and throughwhom alone mercy and salvation can be granted to

the repentant, believing soul.” Patriarchs and Prophets, pp.347,348,353,354.

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not

hear me.” Ps.66:18.But if we are obedient, we may say along with thepsalmist, “Let my prayer be set forth before theeas incense.” Ps.141:2.

“In Christ’s name our petitions ascend to theFather. He intercedes in our behalf. ‘Ask in Myname’, Christ says. --- This will give your prayersefficiency, and the Father will give you the riches of His grace. -- Christ is the connecting link between

God and man. He has promised His personalintercession.” 8T.p.178.

THE MOST HOLY PLACE.

The most holy place, or second apartment of thesanctuary, the High Priest entered only once a yearon this day of Atonement. There is one piece of furniture in this apartment – The Ark of the

Testimony, or Covenant, which contains the TenCommandments written with the finger of God, ontwo tables of stone. See Ex.25:10-22; 37:1-9.

“The ark of God was a sacred chest, made to be thedepository of the ten commandments, which lawwas the representative of God himself.”

4 S.G. p.101.

“In the ark was the golden pot of manna, Aaron’srod that budded, and the tables of stone whichfolded together like a book.” E.W. p.32.

“The law of God, enshrined within the ark, was thegreat rule of righteousness and judgment. That law

pronounced death upon the transgressor.” P.P.p.360.

Above the ark was the Mercy Seat, made of pure

gold. Ex.26:34.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His onlyBegotten Son.”

 John 3:16.

“Above the law was the mercy seat, upon which thepresence of God was revealed, and from which, byvirtue of the atonement, pardon was granted to the

repentant sinner. Thus in the work of Christ for ourredemption, symbolized by the sanctuary service,‘mercy and truth are met together; righteousnessand peace have kissed each other.’ Ps.85:10.P.P.p.360.

“I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.”“And there I will meet with thee, and I willcommune with thee from above the mercy seat,

from between the two cherubims which are uponthe ark of the testimony.”

Lev.16:2; Ex.25:22.

On the day of Atonement Aaron was to kill a bullock which was for a sin offering for himself. ‘And heshall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkleit with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward;and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of theblood with his finger seven times.’ Lev.16:14,15.

“Leaving the censer in the most holy place, Aaronreturned to the court for the blood of the bullock.

The sprinkling of its blood - - ended his work in theholiest with its blood. He had thus madeatonement ‘for himself, and for his household’Lev.16:17. Free from sin, he now became a fit

representative of Christ, the sinless One, and mighttherefore mediate on behalf of others.”

Then “Aaron brought the Lord’s goat, which was‘for the people,’ and slew it. - - Wherever the bloodof the bullock had been sprinkled, there hesprinkled the blood of the goat also.”

On “the day of final and complete atonement for allsins confessed and forgiven during the year – the

blood of the Lord’s goat symbolically removedthese sins from the sanctuary, making ‘atonement ‘for it also. It too was free from sin.” SDA. BC.1.p.774. On Lev. 16:14-16.

At the side of the ark was placed the book of the‘ceremonial law’. Deut.31:26.The manifestation of the Divine Presence, theShekinah Glory was between the two cherubim’s

over the mercy seat. The mercy seats covered the broken law.Within were the ten commandments written withthe finger of God.The pot of manna. Ex.16:33Aaron’s rod that budded. Num.17:8,10.The Cherubim – each had one wing stretchedupward, and one covering the body, in token of reverence and humility. See P.P.360.
