Niklas Amundson was born in 1967 on the Swedish east coast close to Stockholm. At an early age his family moved to a serene and beautiful island named Marstrand on the west coast of Sweden. There he followed in his father’s footsteps and began to paint nearly as soon as he could keep a brush in his hand. Through the years Niklas’ association with the sea has continued and has taken him from the deck of a 138” sailing yacht S/S Gloria, which was owned and build by Mikael Krafft, to a Marstrand pilot boat and later to the Swedish Coast Guard. In 2011 Niklas took over the famous light house island Pater Noster, four nautical miles west of Marstrand in the West Coast archipelago, where you can visit a gallery and enjoy a stay at the small hotel there. All the time he paints continuously, drawing inspiration from his experiences both from the past and the present. In his own words “I receive a daily dose of inspiration through my work with the Coast Guard and ocean-close living.” Niklas has showed twice at the annual exhibition of The Royal Society of Marine Artists. His first participation was at the RSMA’s 55th annual exhibition held at Mall Galleries in London 1999. He is official Artist for the maiden voyage the Ship Götheborg sailed from Sweden to China and back. He also made the official work of art for the Volvo Ocean Race 2005—2006 and 2008—2009. Official Artist for Virgin Oceanic. Represented at The Oceanographic Museum in Monaco with commissioned work of art for The Polar Expedition 1906—2006. Represented on board the Royal Danish ship Dannebrogen.Represented at The Monaco Yacht Club. His latest collection of paintings is “The Gallery of National symbols” where he works in oil on sail canvas. He catches the movement, the shadows, and the light in the flags, which make them feel alive. Niklas collectors are found all over the world from the Island of Mustique to Monaco,

USA and Scandinavia.

Niklas Amundson’s art are inspired of his great love to marine theme which also has become his specific signature and are included in all his work. The idea of the Gallery of Flags are inspired of his worldwide traveling at sea. Amundson is unique when he conjoins the flag and the handwritten national anthem, that he paints in the background.

Gallery of FlagsEvery country has its own history and the common denominators is the flag. The flag is the trademark of each nation. Therefore the flags became a matter of course when Amundson wanted to take his work of arts to a new level. The Swedish FlagThe Swedish flag has a blue background with a yellow cross. The flag is supposed to be inspired of the Danish flag and the shape are simi-lar to that presented in the other Nordic countries flags. The colors of the flag are believed to be taken from the blue background of the three golden crowns in the Small National Coat of Arms and the golden cross from the National Coat of Arms.

The Norwegian FlagThe Norwegian flag is like the rest of the Nordic countries flags inspired by the Danish flag when it comes to its design. It was adapted at the year of 1821, a result of course that Norway earlier had been in union with the Kingdom of Denmark during the year’s 1397—1814. The flag has also a blue cross that symbolizes the former union with the Kingdom of Sweden, a union that were functional between the years 1814—1905. The Norwegian flag is also used on Jan Mayen and on Svalbard, which belongs to the Kingdom of Norway.

The Monaco FlagThe flag of Monaco was introduced by Prince Karl III, on 4th of April 1881. This symbolizes the agreement from 1861, when Monaco ceased to be a protectorate of the Kingdom of Sardinia. The color of the flags field is red and white. This has been the colors of the House Grimaldi since 1331 and they can also be found in the family’s coat of arms.

Monaco Museum

Oceanographic Museum, commissioned art work for the Polar Expedition 1906 —2006.His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and Niklas Amundson in Monaco 2008.

The Oceanographic Museum was inaugurated in 1910 by Monaco’s modernist reformer, Prince Albert I. This monumental architec-tural work of art has an impressive façade above the sea, towering over the sheer cliff face to a height of 279 feet (85.04 m). It took 11 years to build, using 100,000 tons of stone from La Turbie.

MarstrandVolvo OceanMarstrand is the smallest town in the County of Västra Götaland, but is the prin-cipal summer resort. Dragon Gold CupThe Dannebrog, named after the flag of Denmark, was built in 1931—1932 at the Naval Dockyard in Copenhagen. She replaced the previous Royal Vessel, an 1879 paddle steamer, also called Dannebrog. The Yacht has dual functions.Primarily is it the Royal Yacht duringpeacetime, but in wartime it can become a hospital ship during emergency alerts.
