Nextjet Denies Passengers to Board Flight“This is without a doubt the worst service I have ever seen from an airline”, says a car tester from Italy after he and 25-30 other passengers were denied boarding a Nextjet fl ight from Stockholm Arlanda to Arvidsjaur last Sunday.

Around 30 people from BOSCH, Opel, Fiat and Maserati came on a fl ight from Frankfurt to Stockholm, Arlanda. Th e plan for these car testers was to continue from Arlanda to Arvidsjaur Airport and then to their fi nal destina-tion in Arjeplog the same evening.

Th e Frankfurt-Stockholm fl ight was delayed for about one hour. Th e fl ight attendants on that plane calmed the anxious car testers and told them that the fl ight to Arvidsjaur would wait for them.

After picking up their luggage at Arlanda, the group of men ”ran like crazy” to the gate to check in and board the small Nextjet plane to Arvidsjaur.

At the boarding desk the car testers were told that the gate was closed and that they were not allowed to board the waiting plane, which they could see through the windows 50 metres away.

Th e car tester, who has been coming to Arjeplog for winter testing for over 20 years, said that they were only 5-10 minutes late.

Th ey all felt that the women working at the boarding counter had no sense of service or feeling that they should

try to help them get onboard the half empty plane. When some of the guys got upset at being denied boarding the plane, the woman at the boarding desk informed them that she had just started work for the day and did not need a discussion with irritated passengers. She could not care less that between 25 and 30 people missed their fl ight.

Th ere were no other fl ights available to Arvidsjaur this particular Sunday so some of the car testers had to stay over in Stockholm and others had to pay for

a fl ight to Luleå and rent a car to get to Arjeplog, 240 kms away.

Th e car tester, who travels all over the world, experienced this episode as the worst service ever. He said that he can live with the fact that Nextjet fl ights are very often delayed, but this was the most unpleasant experience ever.

Th e Arjeplog Times off ered Nextjet a chance to comment on this article, but they have not even replied to our request. We know that they have received the mail.

Th e car testers were denied boarding the fl ight from Arlanda to Arvidsjaur when they were 5-10 minutes late even though they could see the plane through the window at the airport and had been assured that the fl ight would wait for them. What made it worse was the bad service and unfriendly attitude of the woman at the boarding counter.

Sandra is Marketing ArjeplogSandra Ohlsson came to Arjeplog in 2003 to study at Hornavanskolan, the secondary high school. Now she is back in Arjeplog, marketing Arjeplog and her old high school, trying to fi nd more students.

Sandra was one of 60 pupils at the BST-programme or ‘car test programme’ as it was called. When Sandra, who is 27 years old, went back home to Hälsingland, in the middle of Sweden, she side-tracked and begun studying other forms of communication.

Organizing the kommun’s webpage www.arjeplog.se is also one of her tasks, as well as providing informa-tion from the kommun for Th e Arjeplog Times this season.

For three years Sandra studied in Arjeplog and learnt all about the town and the car testers. Now she is back here and i working for the kommun as an ambassador for Arjeplog and her old school and she is enjoying it.

Mostly she makes use of social media like Facebook and Twitter. Sandra and the pupils at the school post pictures and text under hashtag #hornavanskolan. Sandra says that they are getting a good response and she is now waiting anxiously for February when the applications for the school will be sent in and they can confi rm how many new pupils will come to study in Arjeplog next year.

Hornavanskolan very important for the Kommun

Due to changed government rules it has become harder to recruit students from other areas in Sweden. Th e original BST-programme has been replaced by a technical pro-gramme to fi t the new rules. Th e attraction of Arjeplog is, of course, that winter testing is so big here.

Th e school can accommodate 60 pupils in the technical programme but last year there was only half that amount. Th is is worrying for the kommun as the economy and thereby the future of the school depends on getting students from other parts of Sweden. Pupils from Norway have also shown interests and at the moment there is a handful of Norwegian teenagers studying in Arjeplog.

It is fairly easy for Sandra to work with the students at Hornavanskolan and she explains that she knows how it feels to move here and that helps her in her work at the school.

Sandra Ohlsson is marketing Arjeplog.
