Aristeo was honored to receive multiple awards at the AGC of Michigan 2019 Annual Meeting for our quality work and dedication to workforce development.

Build Michigan Award The major award of the evening was the Build Michigan Award in the Federal & Heavy Construction category, which Aristeo received for our work on the General Motors T1 Body Shop Tooling & Conveyor Installation Project. This award recognizes the excellence of an entire project team – and Aristeo couldn’t be more grateful for this incredible honor. For this project, our team stepped outside the box, collaborated closely with General Motors, and provided a comprehensive solution that integrated both conveyor and tooling system plans and

schedules. This unique process kept the project on track and allowed our team to proactively eliminate any potential conflicts between the systems. Thanks to our team, this 16-month project consistently ran ahead of schedule milestones and finished the 530,000 manhours with an exceptional safety record and zero lost time.

Cornerstone Award Aristeo was also awarded the Cornerstone Award for Workforce Development. This award recognizes companies that have demonstrated outstanding records for advancing the development of their employees through training. Aristeo’s commitment to training and workforce development has long been a critical tenet of our business. We offer our employees training on a variety of topics, including safety,

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATIONIn addition to our company’s recognition at the AGC of Michigan 2019 Annual Meeting, we also honored our Chief Financial Officer, Bill Litz, as he stepped down from his year-long position as Chairman of the Board. His commitment over the last year to the AGC has been admirable and we thank him for his dedication to improving the construction industry in Michigan! While he will no longer be serving as Chairman of the Board, Bill will still be dedicating time to the AGC in other capacities. Bill is still an active Board Member and participant on the Labor Relations Executive Committee. He is also serving on the Labor Pensions and Healthcare Board, where he will be helping create even better safety and labor relations services.

split evenly between Mazda and Toyota. The plant will also create up to 4,000 jobs.

“Aristeo is excited to be part of such an important investment for Alabama and the automotive sector,” stated Chief Operating Officer Jon Rigoni. “This project will showcase the level of our expertise and status as one of the top manufacturing general contractors in the nation. We look forward to building a strong partnership with Mazda-Toyota as this project progresses.”

Aristeo’s self perform expertise was utilized to excavate nearly 70,000 cubic yards of earth, place more than 1,500 tons of rebar, and pour approximately 22,000 cubic yards of concrete. By the end of the project, Aristeo had placed over three miles of concrete grade wall and nearly 2,000 footings and piers across the three buildings. The complex foundations were all engineered to support the heavy manufacturing equipment that will be utilized in the plants. The project also included a 426 foot long scrap

conveyor tunnel, three 16-foot-deep press and tryout pits, and 172 truck dock openings.

With such an expansive job site, Aristeo knew that precise coordination of equipment and operators would be key to maintaining the schedule. For that reason, Aristeo utilized our privately owned GPS-controlled equipment. Our GPS technology helps reduce time and material by only moving the required amount of material, minimizing material overruns, fuel usage, and trucking costs for import and disposal charges. With our GPS-controlled equipment, Aristeo teams input the project blueprint into the onboard machine telematics, including design surfaces, grades, and precise location of infrastructure and building coordinates. Operators could then easily and quickly drive out to the location where digging is needed, and then dig to the exact depth required. This innovative solution saved our clients time and money - preventing over-digging, backfilling with extra material, and extra passes with the equipment.

For work performed in 2018, Aristeo was honored to accept the Certificate of Merit for our DART rate (Days Away,

Restricted, or Transferred) of 25% or more below the Bureau of Labor Statistics National Average for the previous year– in fact, Aristeo’s DART rate was 81% less than the BLS National Average with a DART rate of .33.

Toyota Customer Service & Management Award Aristeo was honored with the Toyota Customer Service and Management Award at the Toyota Annual Supplier Business Meeting in June. This award recognized Aristeo, out of Toyota’s North American indirect supplier base, for exhibiting proactive management and meeting customer needs through effective communications and issue resolution. We always strive to go above and beyond for our customers, and we’re thrilled that our dedication to customer service and excellence in project management has been recognized in this way.

Nominated for Two New Ford World Excellence Awards At Ford’s 21st Annual World Excellence Awards, Aristeo was honored to be nominated for two awards for which we have not been previously recognized! Aristeo was nominated, out of Ford’s entire global supplier base, for the Safe Brand

Pillar Award and the Diverse Supplier of the Year Award. The Safe Brand Pillar Award honors those companies who demonstrate leadership in safety, one of Ford’s primary brand pillars, and the Diverse Supplier of the Year award recognizes suppliers that excel in integrating diversity into their organization and business process.

AGC of Michigan Outstanding Safety Performance Awards Aristeo received multiple safety awards at the AGC of Michigan 2019 Annual Meeting. These awards are determined by comparing injury incident rates as they relate to the total amount of work hours. Aristeo was honored to receive the following awards for work performed in 2018:

• Silver Award in Division V (over 500,000 work hours)

The University of Michigan awarded Aristeo the $2.3 Million Art & Architecture Building Work Commons Renovation in Ann Arbor, MI in March, 2018. For this project, Aristeo renovated an existing 5,000 square foot, two-story tall room, adding a second floor and more than doubling the square footage to 11,000 square feet. The new space, designed for the students of the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design, includes classrooms, seminar rooms, studios, collaborative work areas, and high tech digital equipment, including laser cutters and 3D printers.

Aristeo worked closely with the Architect and Owner to successfully execute the whimsical and creative design. The space included uniquely angled walls and doors, creating non-traditionally shaped rooms for the students to work in. The space also utilized specialty materials and custom finishes, including routed MDF, metal, and glass panels.

During demolition of the existing concrete floors, Aristeo discovered multiple underground objects that interfered with the new foundation plans, including electrical conduit running inside the slabs and a concrete vault. Aristeo worked with the project team to utilize Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to locate offending material,

demolished areas that need correcting, and adjusted the foundation plans to suit the new circumstances. The additional work would have added extra weeks to the schedule, but Aristeo crews worked overtime to maintain the schedule – while also ensuring that the foundations were laid properly and would safely support the new second floor.

As the general contractor on this 18,000 manhour project, Aristeo managed dozens of subcontractors and our in-house self perform demolition and concrete crews. In spite of the unexpected conditions, and thanks to Aristeo’s innovative project planning, this project was successfully completed on time for the upcoming semester, on budget, and with zero recordable injuries.

Aristeo recently completed work on a long-term modernization project for Ford Motor Company’s Woodhaven Stamping Plant. Built in 1964, the Woodhaven Stamping Plant required a comprehensive renovation and equipment replacement. For this project, Aristeo accelerated the removal of decommissioned stamping equipment, and then rearranged, modernized, and prepared the existing 2.6 million square foot facility for new press lines, ancillary manufacturing processes, and automation.

Aristeo, one of Ford’s ABF strategic suppliers, was selected to manage this complex project because of our long history of safe and high quality projects. Because the modernization and renovation of the Woodhaven Stamping Plant was executed during active production, Aristeo drew on our collective knowledge and experience to provide unique solutions for completing major construction projects with little to no impact on production. This also involved leading significant collaboration between all project teams including subcontractors, Ford Land, the Ford Vehicle Operations Manufacturing Engineering (VOME) team, the Woodhaven Stamping Plant team, and multiple equipment manufacturers. Aristeo’s success with this project earned our team an NMAPC Zero Injury Safety Award for zero recordable injuries over the course of 53,000 work hours.

Aristeo was responsible for all aspects of the program from coordination of the design with the architect/engineer, to site preparation and installation. Aristeo’s self perform crews performed the concrete/steel demolition, civil construction, and site preparation - including

demolition of 20 press lines, eight of which required “due care removal”. The original pits for the existing 20 press lines were 40 feet wide by 600 feet long, however Aristeo widened the pits into six 80-foot-wide new pits. Throughout the entire facility, our team placed over 9,600 cubic yards of concrete for the new press pits, foundations, piers, and floors. Aristeo also fabricated and erected more than 1,800 tons of structural steel.

In addition, Aristeo managed the utility upgrades and infrastructure replacement. We coordinated new equipment installation and commissioning for two JIER high speed tandem press lines, one JIER tryout press, four overhead crane extensions, three Schuler hot stamp press lines, multiple compact scrap conveyors, two wash booths, eighteen laser cells, multiple truck docks, and a variety of tool room equipment.

Overall, this program included nearly 100 unique projects and over 300,000 manhours. Thanks to Aristeo’s detail-oriented safety program, this 24-month project was finished on schedule in December 2018 with an excellent safety record of zero lost time.

The construction industry is currently contending with a skilled labor shortage, due to the retirement of experienced, skilled workers and fewer younger workers joining the workforce. In an effort to solve this problem, Aristeo has attended dozens of events over the last year geared toward recruitment and workforce development. This company-wide effort, which stems from the combined efforts of our human resources, project management, estimating, and field leadership teams, has helped build awareness of construction careers and resulted in our largest ever group of apprentices and interns to date in 2019.

Aristeo’s goal is to generate more awareness of all the available career opportunities that exist in the construction industry, from the skilled trades to project management. This year alone, Aristeo has welcomed multiple students to shadow our employees, and has participated in a variety of job fairs hosted by various universities, the AGC of Michigan, and local technical schools. We also continue to sponsor and participate in events like the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) “Bid Day Simulation” in an effort to reach students who may be interested in construction estimating as a career. These events represent a 160% increase in Aristeo’s outreach efforts compared to last year.

Our teams have also been active presenters at multiple educational sessions at universities and technical schools around the state. These educational sessions provide us with the opportunity to teach students about the variety of career paths in construction, showcase the exciting work they could be a part of, and answer questions they may have.

These educational events and career fairs are only a small piece of our workforce development strategy, however we consider them to be some of the most critical. Our team not only appreciates these events for the value they provide Aristeo as a company, but we also enjoy engaging with the students and learning what they are looking for in their careers.

EXPANDING OUTREACH TO INCREASE THE CONSTRUCTION WORKFORCE

Aristeo attended the AGC of Michigan Construction Career Days event, which welcomed nearly 3,500 students.

Aristeo attended the Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan Journey 2 Jobs career fair, which hosted hundreds of high school students.

Aristeo provided a “day in the life” for two high school students earlier this year as they job shadowed our team.

MENTORING LOCAL WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESSES

VOLUNTEERING FOR THE THAW FEBRUARY RADIOTHON

In May 2018, Aristeo hosted a networking and mentoring event for local women-owned industrial businesses, as part of a new pilot program sponsored by Ford Motor Company and the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council (GLWBC), MentorWE. As mentors for this program, Aristeo Construction’s Michelle Aristeo Barton (President) and Anne Aristeo Martinelli (Chief Strategy Officer) presented on and facilitated a half-day event on the topic of Strategic Planning.

The MentorWE program helps women-owned businesses by matching them with peers within the same industry. They receive support, input and feedback from mentors, corporate participants, and other leading experts in all areas of professional development to their needs.

Aristeo, a WBENC-certified business and corporate member of the GLWBC, was chosen to be a mentor for this program because of our strong support of the diverse business community and insight we can provide as the largest women-owned general contractor in the country.

“We are proud to be part of the MentorWE program and want to thank Ford and the GLWBC for inviting us to participate” stated Martinelli. “Aristeo has always supported diverse businesses and this program provides a great opportunity to help develop other women-owned businesses, increase their business acumen, and support them as they grow.”

In early February this year, nearly a dozen Aristeo employees volunteered at The Heat and Warmth Fund 2019 Winter Survival Radiothon. Aristeo has been a consistent volunteer at this event for the last couple years, and we were thrilled to yet again answer phones, collect donations, and help THAW raise more than $1.5 Million in one day.

THAW is an important organization in our community, with a mission to provide utility assistance to Michigan families in need.

According to THAW’s website, approximately 40% of households in the state struggle to afford energy throughout the winter. These statistics are what drive Aristeo employees to volunteer their time for THAW events year after year.

Thank you to the THAW team for the opportunity to support their important mission. The Aristeo team always enjoys working with THAW and we look forward to volunteering at future events.

Chief Strategy Officer Anne Aristeo Martinelli with members of Ford Motor Company, the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council, and participants in the MentorWE program.

In addition to volunteering, Aristeo also matched donations for the Radiothon up to $3,000.
