“Don't focus on negative things; focus on the positive, and you will flourish.” - Alek Wek
This week’s virtue is joyfulness. Joyfulness is being filled with happiness. It is a peaceful
sense of well being. Joy is inside us all. It comes from an appreciation for the gifts each
day brings. Joy comes when we are doing what we know is right and when we laugh
and see the humour in things. Joy is the inner sense that can carry us through the hard
times, even when we may be feeling sad. Please consider taking a few minutes to
discuss what it means to be joyful with your child/ren over the next week.
Next week is Good News Week once again and at Parkhurst State School, every Week
Eight is Great ! It is the special time each Term when we all take the time to share good
news. It is also a great opportunity for you to share your positive feedback and show
someone they are valued and appreciated. Good News Week celebrations and
accolades may take many forms including emails, text messages, Good News Notes,
postcards, telephone calls, face to face chats, letters of commendations and signs
flying from airplanes over your house – well not quite !
The ‘pointy end’ of the Term is closely approaching and now, more than ever, ensuring
every day of learning counts is paramount. Teachers are in the process of finalising
assessments to ensure their judgments on End of Semester Two Report Cards reflect
exactly what every learner knows, understands and can do. Being at school every day
makes a difference, and at this time of the year as we prepare for the end of year,
absent learners maybe missing on some of the special activities, events and moments
with their classmates.
Last week, a DRAFT and proposed Teacher allocation was communicated via the
Newsletter. This is DRAFT and may be subject to change as circumstances change. All
Teachers are in the process of collaborating to develop proposed class groups for 2020.
Once again, the input provided by parents and carers in the form of specific
information that may assist in the individual placement of learners was appreciated.
We hope to be in a position by Week Nine to communicate class allocations. This will
be done with learners during our annual ‘Transition Hour’. No class lists will be displayed
publicly once again this year due to privacy restrictions.
Next week, we welcome our 2020 Prep Year learners to Parkhurst State School as they
undertake their Orientation Sessions. It is not too late to enrol for 2020. If you know of a
family considering enrolling, please encourage them to contact our Office.
Until next week,
Lyle Walker

–It is Term Four and that means Jump Jam once
again. Learning commences at 8:45 a.m. every day.
All Queensland Schools are required to implement
a daily Smart Moves to provide opportunities for all
learners to engage in moderate physical activity
that raises the heart rate. At Parkhurst State School,
this takes the form of Jump Jam in the Summer
Months. Smart Moves is a daily, fifteen minute
investment in every learner and staff member’s
health and all parents and carers are encouraged
to join in too.
Outlined below is the draft and proposed 2020 Class
Structure and Teacher Allocation based on our
predicted enrolments. Parkhurst State School’s
Enrolment Management Plan has enabled steady
in catchment growth to maintain consistent
enrolment totals across most year levels.

Developing a class structure is a challenging
undertaking based on enrolment predictions and a
range of information to :
‐ ensure the school’s staffing allocation is met
‐ ensure the school is not over staffed
‐ maintain enrolment quotas across year levels
‐ ensure the enrolment management plan in
addressed
‐ ensure maximum class size targets are met
‐ meet the individual and group needs of learners
‐ best utilise teacher experience and expertise
‐ best utilise available facilities and infrastructure
‐ ensure fairness, equity and inclusive practices
‐ ensure space for future annual enrolment growth
‐ provide flexibility to place individual learners in the
most appropriate setting
‐ provide opportunities for team collaboration
In 2020, our long established Learning
Neighbourhoods will continue as the key
mechanism to assure consistent and quality
practices in curriculum design and delivery is
sustained. It is essential that every class teacher
knows and understands where their learners have
come from and where, over the coming year they
need to take them. This is to ensure the
achievement standards and the content of the
Australian Curriculum are met in terms of what every
learner needs to know and understand,
demonstrate, apply and think about.
Any class that is developed has learners with a
range of interests, abilities, behaviours,
backgrounds, knowledge, skills and preferences.
Every class teacher is required to ensure learning is
differientiated as required to ensure every learner is
able to access the curriculum at their level.
Over the next few weeks, individual learners will be
allocated to classes, in time for our annual Prep
Orientation Mornings and ‘Transition Hour’ towards
the end of Term, where learners will have the
opportunity to meet their 2020 Teacher/s and visit
their 2020 Classrooms, During these times, the 2020
Booklist will also be distributed.
Thankyou once again to every family who took the
time to complete a Class Placement Form. This
information has been invaluable and much
appreciated in assisting us to place learners in
classes.
Over the past Term, all Teachers, including Class
Teachers and Specialist Teachers have engaged in
the review of our current Book, Stationery and
Equipment List and the development of our 2020
Book, Stationery and Equipment List. This information
has been included in this week’s Newsletter to
provide all parents and carers with an opportunity
to start preparing for 2020.
As in previous years, there are three main options for
families, including …
1. Ordering online via OfficeMax with Book,
Stationery and Equipment Lists filled and
delivered to your door. The code for ordering is
9UU3Z
2. Submitting your Book, Stationery and Equipment
List to Parkhurst Newsagency at the Parkhurst
Town Centre or a similar business, like Office
works
3. Purchase your own books, stationery and
equipment as per the Book Stationery and
Equipment List. A sample of the required lines for
each Learning Neighbourhood is included for
easy reference.
The Uniform Shop will be open on the Prep
Orientation Mornings and every Friday until the end
of the year for 2020 Uniform purchases.
The Preparatory Year is compulsory in all Queensland
schools. Enrolment and Information Packages are
available from our Office. If your child/ren turn five by
June 30th 2020, he/she is eligible to enrol. The table
below is a guide to assist families to determine Prep
eligibility.
As per Parkhurst State School’s Enrolment
Management Plan, only students whose principal
place of residence is within the school’s catchment
area will be eligible for enrolment at the school.
Students who are siblings of current students at the
school are eligible for enrolment. We are requesting
that younger siblings of students who are eligible for
Prep in 2020 to complete an Enrolment Package
and lodge with the Office as soon as possible.
For an Enrolment Package and information, please
visit or call our Office on 07 4924 6555 or click on the
‘Enrol Now’ tab on our website.

Term Four envelopes for Parkhurst State School
Parents and Citizens’ Association’s Voluntary
Contribution Program have been sent home. Families
can voluntarily contribute $25 per Term or $100 for the
year in lieu of contributing financially or assisting in
person with ongoing fundraisers. The Parkhurst P&C
appreciate and understand that families are ‘time
poor’ and may not always be available to assist with
fundraisers, activities and events. Each term, for every
contribution made, families will go into the draw for
an amazing prize, drawn at the final Assembly of
Excellence for 2019.
If you have paid for an entire year, you are
automatically in the draw every Term. With 307
families, if every family supported this initiative, just
over $30 000 could be raised in one year. If you have
any questions regarding any aspect of the Program,
please contact the Office or email
The school Leadership Team is currently working with
our Regional Human Resource Team to accurately
determine our 2020 staffing requirements based on
our predicted student enrolments. If you are leaving
Parkhurst State School at the end of the year or know
someone who is intending to enrol with us, we need
to know as soon as possible so this information can be
taken into account.

learners to meet their 2020 teachers, experience
what Prep entails, learn about our daily school
routines, discover areas of the school and get fitted
for their brand new uniforms. The 2019 Prep
Orientation Days are Tuesday November 26th 2019
or Tuesday December 03rd 2019. If the allocated
date does not suit your family, please contact the
Office.

Every year, schools develop an Investing for Success
Agreement to outline the key strategies and
associated costings to drive school improvement. In
2020, Parkhurst State School is anticipated to
receive $170 893. The Parkhurst State School
Investing for Success (I4S) Agreement will continue
to support the delivery of the Australian Curriculum,
with a particular focus on improving the reading
outcomes of every learner within the school.
Specific strategies will include :
1. the employment of an additional full time
Teacher Aide to provide increased classroom
support to deliver guided reading programs
2. releasing the four Curriculum Leaders
(Neighbourhood Mayors) to oversee the
curriculum and assessment development
3. curriculum and classroom resourcing
4. staff professional development and coaching
5. teacher release time for planning
6. resourcing the school’s PAWS Reading Incentives
Program
7. supplementing human resource fractions as
required
Staff recently reviewed the 2019 Investing for
Success Agreement strategies, which will inform our
annual ‘Snapshot’ Report. A proposed Agreement
will be sent to our Regional Office for perusal and
signing by the Director General of Education. This
funding has been guaranteed by the State and
Federal Government to continue into the future.
The selection process for our 2020 Student
Leaders is currently underway with an
overwhelming number of applications received.
This Wednesday November 20th 2019 the
prospective leaders had the opportunity to
conduct a short presentation to their Year 4, 5
and 6 Neighbourhood peers, parents, carers. The
2020 Student Leaders will be announced at the
Senior Graduation Ceremony at Central
Queensland University on Thursday December
05th 2019.
–As part of our 2020 Investing for Success Agreement,
some changes have been made to increase the
impact of reading programs in classrooms. For the
past few years, a team of casual Teacher Aides has
been employed to ensure that every learner in the
P/1 Learning Neighbourhood had the opportunity
to read to and be read to by an adult every day. In
2020, this model will change by employing an
additional Teacher Aide for 25 hours per week. This
addition will increase the school’s capacity to
deliver guided reading programs and strategically
disperse existing Teacher Aides more effectively
across classrooms, particularly during key times,
such as Specialist Teacher lessons.
If you or someone you know is interested in applying
for this position, please email or personally deliver
the following to the school Office by Friday
November 28th 2019, to the attention of ‘The
Principal’. A copy of the full Role Description is
available from the Office.
1. a current resume, outlining recent experience as
a Teacher Aide, with particular focus on
supporting literacy and numeracy
2. a copy of your Blue Card (Working with Children
Check)
3. a maximum two page response to the following
selection criteria :
‐ knowledge of or ability to learn quickly about
classroom activities and procedures
‐ experience in using and maintaining a range of
classroom and school resources
‐ knowledge of school and department policies
‐ willingness to undertake specific training to
enhance student support as necessary
‐ basic understanding of workplace health and
safety, equal employment opportunity and anti
discriminatory practices and behaviour as
applied in a work environment
‐ demonstrated sound personal qualities of tact,
reliability
‐ an ability to work with others both individually
and as a member of a team
Each year, all members of every school community
are invited to participate in a School Opinion Survey.
Unfortunately, in 2019 the take up rate was quite low
at Parkhurst State School, with the survey
completed by :
‐ 36 parents and carers
‐ 99 learners
‐ 12 teachers
‐ 5 non teaching staff
As in all years, this information is always considered
and actioned based on the priority areas expressed
in the survey and assists the school in our annual
strategic planning. The graphics below indicate
snapshots from the survey.
