GOD, HUMANITY, AND AMERICAN POLITICS “Something, We All Need to Know”

“I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them . . .” (Luke 6:47) Between the Psalms, Proverbs, and Jesus’ instructions such as in this example, from Luke’s Gospel, makes it abundantly clear that Jesus’ Word is meant (for our absolute benefit) to be

obeyed, not merely listened to. And, furthermore, Jesus’ Word is not meant to be limited to just certain aspects of our life and of our own choosing. Finally, the truth of the matter is that every aspect of our life is held captive by Jesus’ Word, including our opinions about race, gender, religion, and our personal politics. Simply put, Jesus Word has everything to do with everything in our life. Absolutely everything! Therefore, to believe anything different is to put our ultimate welfare into a clear and very present danger. Not from God’s doing – but, our own doing. So, let’s consider God’s reality from this perspective.

Adam and Eve were created in God’s own image, to his satisfaction, and to fulfill God’s expectation that they would joyfully want to be the permanent stewards of God’s own good Creation. However, things changed drastically! Adam and Eve yielded to the sly deception and temptation from the Evil One. The end result being, that they believed the Lie from Satan about being equal to God in strength and wisdom. So they acted upon this Lie, and they tried to hide from God; and they also lied to God, about who was at fault for all of the anguish in this once splendid Creation of God. They found themselves exiled from God and his awesome Creation. Adam and Eve brought the judgment upon themselves, not by God’s doing, but from their own doing, themselves. Had they listened to and obeyed The Truth, they would not have found themselves in this ugly condition. Furthermore, Adam and Eve’s condition is our inherited condition to this day and far beyond. Obeying God’s Truth would have made all of the difference in the world! Therefore, we too must own the full reality of our condition and our susceptibility to seek out another “truth”, instead of keeping with God’s Truth. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good, and acceptable (to God), and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)

“For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Matthew 5:20) It is easy to pass over this verse and assume clearly that “obviously” I am neither a scribe nor a Pharisee. However, the reality remains unchanged, because without even thinking about this we act as if we are the authors of what is truly right, and what is not. Therefore, we wrongfully substitute the authority of our values for the authority of God’s values, and we’ll pay the price for our pride, our arrogance, and our idolatry, just like the scribes and the Pharisees. As a result, God’s Word is the standard by which we judge all human words; God’s wisdom is the standard by which we judge all human wisdom; God’s activity of grace is the standard by which we must judge all human activity; and God’s love is the standard by which we all must learn to truly love one another. “If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in HIS love.” (John 15:10)

spin?. We are in need of volunteers to mow the cemetery and the church lawn. The schedule is on the bulletin board by the

Bible Study Reminder

The Monday night Bible Study

group will continue to meet during

the summer months on a week by

week basis. Contact Dave Klemp for more

information. The Tuesday morning Bible Study has

ended for the summer months. It will resume again

in the Fall. Watch for notices in the Visitor and

Church bulletins. We will continue to have Small

Group Bible Study on Sunday mornings at 8:30am.

Special Projects Fund Estimates for the church roof are between

$29,700-$58,000 and Solar removal is

estimated at $12,000 more or less. We

currently have $ 16,282.77 in the Special Project

Fund. Below are fundraisers we are doing for the

church roof.

Special Projects Fundraiser There are VandeWalle’s candy bars on the table by the library for sale. They

are a dollar each. Please put your money in the envelope in the box. If you want

to sell elsewhere, please see Heather Goodacre.

Looking for Thrivent Members Please let the office know if you have an insurance

policy or investment funds with Thrivent. Any Thrivent member is eligible to apply for a $250

Thrivent action card which can be used to as seed money for our fundraisers or for community

service projects. We will help you with the application process and completing your final

report for any project you my be involved with.

Country Gospel Barbecue Fundraiser

There will be a special Country Gospel worship service on Sunday June 16

th along with a barbecue potluck dinner

(please bring a dish to pass) and silent auction to raise funds for the church roof. You are

welcome to dress in your country attire. We are in need of volunteers to help with cooking,

serving, preparing silent auction items. Please contact Dawn if you can assist in any way.

Navarino Days Pie Sale

We will be selling homemade pies for Navarino Days on Saturday, July 13th.

We are in looking for people to donate pies. We are also looking for volunteers to work from

11am-3pm or until pies are sold. Watch for a sign up list. Lastly, we are looking for someone to take the lead on this fundraising project. See Dawn for

more information.

School: Bonduel High School

Year: Senior

Despite struggling to score runs at times, the Bonduel High School softball team has still racked up the hits this spring. Senior McKenzie Wollenberg, who typically hits third or fourth in the lineup, has been a big contributor to the team’s offense, with several multi-hit games to her name.

She most recently tallied three hits in the team’s loss to Amherst on Tuesday. Wol-lenberg posted two hits in a win over Menominee Indian on April 30 and recorded three hits and scored three times in a nonconference win over Three Lakes on April 26.

Q: When did your interest in softball begin?

A: My interest in softball began around the age of 6. I would always watch my brothers (Ben and Travis) play t-ball and I’d also try to help my dad (Scott) coach as much as possible.

Q: What is your favorite part about the softball season?

A: My favorite part about the softball season would be getting to play with all my teammates and cherishing the memo-ries we make at the game and on the bus rides.

Q: As the season wraps up, what does the team need to be doing to put together a playoff run?

A: I believe that in order to make a big run in playoffs we need to clean up some of our mental errors, while also keeping up with the amount of hits that we have been having.

Q: As a senior, what do you do to help some of your younger teammates?

A: To help some of underclassmen on the team, I try to welcome them in and talk to them so that they aren’t so shy. I believe that it helps to get everyone to enjoy the sport and not to be scared. Also, for the physical part of playing I try to help them out in their position, by telling them to move up or back, or when they make a good play.

Q: What’s your favorite memory of competing on the Bonduel softball team?

A: My favorite memory from Bonduel softball is when we took a trip up to Marquette, Michigan, to play in the dome (Superior Dome in mid-April). It was an unbelievable experience and such a great environment to play in.

Q: What are you going to miss most when your softball career is over at Bonduel?

A: I’m going to miss not playing on the field with my teammates anymore. As the season begins to come to an end its really starting to kick in that soon I’ll never be able to put on my jersey and cleats anymore.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do when you are not in school or competing in a high school sport?

A: My favorite thing to do when I am not in school or sports is hanging out with friends and going somewhere new on an adventure.

Q: Favorite movie?

A: My favorite movie is “The Longest Ride.” I also like to watch thriller movies and comedies.

Q: Name one thing about yourself that not many people know.

A: Something that a lot of people may not know about me is that I love the outdoors, but I also like to be girly at times.

Q: What’s the greatest piece of advice you have ever been told?

A: The greatest piece of advice that I have ever been told is that “you will never make it anywhere if you never put in the effort to get there.”

Council Meeting Minutes Sunday, May 19, 2019

President George Peters brought the meeting to order at 8:04am.

Devotion led by Pastor Mark Sabin and prayer by Pastor Mark Sabin.

Approval of minutes: Correction made to list of attendees. 1st by Glen P, and 2nd by Dave K. Voice vote passed.

Pastors Report: Two home visits with holy communion. Two home visits without holy communion. Wedding guidelines presented for upcoming wedding taking place at Ascension.

Treasurer’s/Finance Report: Income for April $7,421.00 Expenses for April $6,964.33 YTD we are $1,661.87 in the red for income vs expenses. Project fund: Loud offering $223.57, Thrivent Choice $515.00, Misc. donations of $535.00, Pizza fundraiser $328.00. Fellowship Fund $75.00. Candy Bar sales $400.00 Total available for projects $16,282.77.Report approved by Dave K, 2nd Greg S. Voice vote passed.

Education: Recognizing graduates will take place on Sunday 6/2. Sunday School schedule for next year is in progress.

Finance: No report.

Property: Lawn mowing season has started, first grass cutting was this past week, signoff for the summer months in on the back table. Darrell made temporary roof repair around the bell tower. TV installed in the Bible study room. Thank you to Dean for installing a new fan controller in the social hall.

Worship: Country Gospel service Sunday 6/16. Followed by a barbecue pulled pork lunch and potluck. Silent auction as well to raise funds for special projects. Sign up will be on back tables. Gladys Mungo will be here on June 9th.

Evangelism: NALC Convocation. August 8 & 9th in Indianapolis

(11:00am-2:00pm -or sold out). Thrivent Action Dollars applied for by Kay F. Signup on back table. John and Dorothy Nelson Auction: July 20th. John and Dorothy Nelson have offered for Ascension to have a food booth at their auction with proceeds going to the roof fund. David R will apply for Thrivent Action Team funding. Thank you to all that have volunteered to help. Norwegian Cemetery Brat Fry: August 26th, 27th, 28th. (Monday -Wednesday). Charlies County Market Red Barn. We need 3 Thrivent members to apply for Thrivent Action Funds, one for each day to pay for the meat and buns. Profits will be used towards the roof fund.

We will need volunteers for all three days. A sign up will be forthcoming. Annual Fall Rummage sale. We can hold this event again and are looking for volunteers to help coordinate. Tentatively scheduled for September 21st.

Continued Fundraisers: Script program: Scrip cards can be purchased from Bonnie at any time and also after each service. We get a percentage back after the cards are used. We received our first check from Kwik Trip from script cards that have been used. VandeWalle Candy Bars: Candy Bars are available in the social hall. If you would like to sell a box at your work place, please see Heather Goodacre.

We are in need of congregation members who have Thrivent policies to consider applying for Thrivent action team money for fundraising events. Members receive 2 -$250 that can be used for fundraisers. Please let Bonnie know if you can help us out. Bonnie can help you apply.

If you have any ideas of future fundraisers, please let the council or the fundraising committee know so we can discuss as possibilities to increase the funds for the roof fund.

Looking GOOD for GOD Please consider ‘Recycling” your new or gently used clothing items for the families helped by

HAITI’S CHILDREN. Haitian families dress up for church each Sunday and are in need of

Men’s wear (suits, ties, shoes, belts) Women’s wear (Dresses, Skirts/Blouses, Hats, Shoes,

Purses) Teen and Children’s clothing that is appropriate for church.

Gladys will be visiting our congregation on Sunday, June 9th. Please come and hear her

message and update on the children and families in Haiti that she touches.

This event is supported by Thrivent Action Team.

The next Community Dinner will be Wednesday, June 19th at 5:30pm.

17th ANNUAL NAVARINO RANGER FUND RAISER GOLF OUTING (Four person SCRAMBLE)

WHEN: Saturday June 29, 2019

WHERE: Golden Sands Golf Course, Cecil, WI.

TIME: Shotgun Start at 1:00 P.M.

COST: $65.00 per person includes: 18 holes of golf with motor cart, lunch and 2 (two) drink tickets for use

at the golf course (beer or soda) and 1 (one) drink ticket for use at the concession stand at the Navarino ball

diamond after the outing.

Money raised will be put toward ball diamond improvements and other community projects. Nominal prizes

will be awarded to the winners.

The event will include hole prizes and 50 / 50 holes.

Golfer registration begins @ 12:00 noon the day of the outing.

Lemon Bars

1 1/2 cup flour 3/4 cup butter Mix together and press in a 9x13 inch pan. Bake 25 minutes at 325 degrees. Cool.

1 package(8 oz.) cream cheese 1 cup powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 small cool whip container Mix together and spread over cooled crust. Put one box of lemon pie filling (small) on top and refrigerate. I am not sure who provided this recipe since it has been in my folder for awhile. Please let me know so you can get credit.
