The Anointed OneRedeemer of Mind, Heart, and Soul
Anointed RolesIn the Old Testament there were three types of people who were anointed for their work…the prophet, the king, and the priest.
- The prophet spoke God’s word to the His people.
- The king ruled over God’s people. - The priest mediated between God and
His people.
The Anointed One
The subtitle of this series…A Redeemer of Mind, Heart, and Soul…comes from the continued need of a prophet, king,
and priest.
The Anointed One
The effect of sin is total.
Our minds are darkened. Our hearts are defiant. Our souls are dead.
The Anointed One• We need a prophet to shine the light of
God’s Word in our mind.
• We need a king to subdue our heart to the kindly rule of God.
• We need a priest to bring us from death to life.
The Anointed One• Redeemer of Our Minds: Jesus the anointed
prophet who shines the light of God’s truth.
• Redeemer of Our Hearts: Jesus the anointed king who subdues us to the kindly rule of God.
• Redeemer of Our Souls: Jesus the anointed priest who brings us from death to life.
Jesus the Anointed Prophet• Living in Darkness

• Living in the Light
Living in Darkness
“The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every
intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
Genesis 6:5, ESV
Living in Darkness
“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds,
there is none who does good.” Psalm 14:1, ESV
Living in Darkness
“For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their
foolish hearts were darkened.” Romans 1:21, ESV
Living in Darkness
“Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the
futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them,
due to their hardness of heart.” Ephesians 4:17–18, ESV
Living in Darkness
Sin has darkened our mindsto the truth of God.
Living in Darkness
This state of darkness within our minds is the most prevalent effect of
sin but the least recognized.
Revealing the Light
The only remedy for darkness is light.
Revealing the Light
Jesus did not reflect the light of God’s truth. Jesus, being God, is the light of truth.
Revealing the Light“Long ago, at many times and in many ways,
God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his
Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact
imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.”
Hebrews 1:1–3, ESV
Revealing the Light“In him was life, and the life was the light of
men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:4–5, ESV
“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”
John 8:12, ESV
Revealing the Light
Because Jesus is the light of truth, his teaching penetrates minds and hearts.
Revealing the Light“And when Jesus finished these sayings, the
crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he was teaching them as one who had authority…”
Matthew 7:28–29, ESV
“They said to each other, ‘Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road,
while he opened to us the Scriptures?’” Luke 24:32, ESV
Revealing the Light
John 3:16-18
God is love. Man is dead. Jesus is Savior. Salvation is by grace.
Turning from Darkness
John 3:19-21
Turn from your sin andturn to Christ your Savior.
Living in the LightDaily receive the light of God’s Word.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105, ESV
Living in the Light
Weekly expose yourself to God’s Word.
“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort,
with complete patience and teaching.” 2 Timothy 4:2, ESV
Living in the Light
Share the light of Christ with others.
Living in the Light“And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world
has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of
Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with
ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in
our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
2 Corinthians 4:3–6, ESV
