The Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of the IQAC

Department: DR G R Damodaran College of Science

Year of Report: 2011-12

Part A: The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards

quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year:

The College ensures Quality Education by providing various exposures to the students

through workshops, CEO word series, Face to Face, Industrial Visits and Extra

Curricular activities, SCIB Bazaar, Intercollegiate events, Brand Expo etc.

GRDIM initiated an opportunity towards Industrial Institution Interface through

providing an opportunity towards successful placements and Projects for the students

Organizing activities and events that involve major student participation to enhance their

team work and co-ordination.

Improving on consultancy activities.

Concentrating on thrust areas of research and funding proposals.

Enhancing co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the students.

Part B:

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:

Special lectures were organized in Marketing, Finance and Human Resource

Management to strengthen the specialization

Research Oriented Programs and Management Development Programs were organized

to Empower the Department and the Teaching Fraternity

National and International Exposures among the students were highly focused.

Students Community took efforts for their social reach.

Inviting experts from outside for curriculum development

Conducted extension activities like window display, off beat, Brand Expo etc.

Arranging Faculty Development programmes and Short term courses.

Providing Placement training and Services to the final year UG & PG students

Data Mining, E – Commerce, Database Management Systems are offered as

new elective papers under Systems specialization.

v) Minor modifications in few subjects are made with respect to updating and

overcoming the repetition of topics.

23.Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on

student feedback:

Feedback from students is collected at the end of each semester on the subjects handled

by every individual faculty.

The feedback is based on a number of parameters such as Teaching ability and

Effectiveness, Teaching method and approaches, Rapport developed with the students,

Discipline etc.

Based on the above parameters, the students are asked to respond on the teaching

performance of the faculty, by giving the rating from poor to outstanding coded with 1

to 5.

The responses from the students are analyzed and inferences are drawn. Based on the

inferences an Action plan is prepared to appreciate and improve the teaching of each and

every individual faculty.

results, issue of certificates:

The entire system of administration is computerized in terms of dealing with database

and documentation, stores and purchase, office and accounts, student admission,

relations and communication.

Experts from Industry and Academia are included in the Board of studies and Academic

Council of the respective courses. The ISO certification system of the Institution

facilitates the complete maintenance of documentation and quality of the system.

A separate software EDUMANGE is installed to enter the attendance and to calculate

the continuous assessment marks of the students electronically.

The entire examination process is computerized and the examination results are

published in our College website. The Controller of Examination section effectively

conducts Term End Exams, Evaluation and Issues of results online. The degree

certificates will be issued by the Bharathiar University.

31. Activities and support from the Parent - Teacher Association:

The Institution believes in a strong interaction between teachers and the parents. At least

once a year, a formal parent-teacher’s meeting is held. Besides this, at various formal and

informal levels, the teachers are in contact with the parents. For students having irregularities

in attendance, the teachers get in touch with the parents. The parents of those students who

are likely to go into the defaulter’s list, are informed in advance by personal meeting and

their wards are given a chance to improve, so that their terms can be granted. For any

misbehaviour / misconduct, the Principal meets the guardian / parent before taking any strict

disciplinary measures. This helps to maintain a discipline, with the humane approach that is

required. There is also a Parents Teachers Association set up to receive feedback from the

parents and to involve them in the growth of the College.

For every thirty days the attendance percentage and the student’s performance is sent to the

parents through post and E-mails.

Parents are encouraged to come in person and meet the tutors regarding their wards

performance. Suggestions are given by the teachers to improve the performance both

attendance and marks wise.

The students of GRD School of Social Work participated in a state level competition

Catharsis – 2K11 conducted by Bishop keeper College, Tiruchurapalli on Sep 23 and 24

in variety chart and 3rd prize in dumb charades and variety. Mr.Catharsis title was
