Academic Year : 2007-08



PART – A To plan the action to enhance the IQAC of the college the following action is

planned. In the planning, it has been observed that all the activities will promote quality

education to the students and the quality training to the faculty members. The following

activities were fixed in this context during the year 2007-2008.The following activities,

which are matching to the goals of the college, are indicated below.

College have extensively tried to serve

industry for consultancy.

6 Research activities and patents Research culture was developed by

motivating staff to enroll for higher

studies.

7 Provision of internet facility Internet facility provided to the

students

8 To send the proposals to the

funding agencies like UGC,

AICTE, DST, CSIR.

Part B-

1. ACTIVITIES REFLECTING THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT

i)Academic Activities :

Syllabus revision for B.Tech Sem-I &II was carried out by inviting Experts from

various fields and consulting them by conducting workshops.

Teaching plan, three unit test, continuous assessments ,preparation of notes being

followed by faculty for quality education

Academic Calendar: - Academic calendar reflects various activities to be carried out.

Attendance monitoring: - Attendance monitoring is done at end of every month to

check the students presence and punctuality, if students failed to maintain

attendance letter are send to parents for the further action .

Industrial Visits-Industrial visits are arranged to fill the gap between theory and

practical to get exposure of the industries an there processes.

facilities for students.

Concept of industrial training will be

introduced while revising syllabus.



Expert lectures /Seminars: - Expert lectures /seminars are arranged by the people

from the industries or the experts from the respective field to get more knowledge

and exposure of the subject.

Industrial training-compulsory training of one month is introduced to get the

practical experience and know the processes and operations of the industries and the

present market.

The pattern of 80 – 20 was introduced. ( 20 marks for unit test & 80 marks university

exams)

ii) Research Activities:

Participation in Seminar and conferences ,paper presentation by faculty members

Quality improvement for faculty.

Undertaking Laboratory Development for better support for teaching and research

work

Motivating the staff for M. Tech. & Ph.D

Motivating the staff for attending seminar / workshop / conferences

Motivating the staff for research grants like MODROB, DST etc.

iii) Extension Activities:

Testing and consultancy.

Inter departmental, Inter institutional competitions carried out.

Workshop,Seminar,Conferences being conducted by the departments

Innovative practices such as faculty development programme, on the job

training is also being carried out.

Training for third year students for aptitude test, group discussion and

Interviews Skills, EDUSAT Programme,.

AMIE practicals are arranged in department laboratories for the respective

branches.

Network security course is introduced to know the trends in information

technology.

Students associations are there for each departments such as CHESA, CESA,

MESA etc.

Soft skill, interview skills and personality development skills were incorporated



into students with help of T.I.M.E .

The facility of Digital Library which includes many National and International Journals

available to the students and Staff for research work.

Organised STTP on ‘Advanced course on VLSI’sponsored by AICTE and ‘Faculty

awareness camp on Enterpreneurship’ from 30th

June to 8th

Iuly2008

Workshop on maintenance of laboratory equipments was organized for the nonteaching

staff members.

Results of each Semester is prepared, analyzed and counseling is done for weak

21. IMPROVEMENTS IN THE LIBRARY SERVICES :

1) DELNET Facility (Developing Library Network)

Institute is member of DELNET library network. This facility was renewed in the year

2007-08.

2) Institutional Membership IIT, Bombay, British council Library (BCL),

Automobile research association of India (ARAI), Institute of Armament Technology

(IAT)

It is more useful and providing lot of information to the student and staff. This facility was

renewed in the year 2007-08.

3) IEEE Online Journals

At present library has online access of IEEE journals which was renewed in the year 2007-

08.

4) Linguaphone Lab (English Language Communication Skill)

Our institute is providing Linguaphone lab facility to the student and staff members such as

basic study of English language phonology and morphology is related with English

pronunciation around the word and phonological and morphological analysis in detail.

Alumni Meet of Bharati Vidyapeeth University, College of Engineering was held

on 2nd

October 2007 in college premises. Function was inaugurated by Chief Guest Mr.Milind

Jagtap.,Chairman Softhard Automation.



He addressed the alumni’s and present students on the issue of opportunities

of Engineer’s, in various field and shared his experience as an Entrepreneur’s and

motivated to be a good businessmen’s.

President Dr.A.R.Bhalerao guided alumni’s on the various plan’s & scheme

for development of present and past students. i.e To enhance modernize upgrade the

For Every Class GFM ( Guardian Faculty Member ) is appointed . The GFM act as key

link to keep good liaison with students Parent and other faculty members teaching



particular class. For Irregularities , poor performance of student GFM discuss with Parent

of Student. As per GFM Feedback Parent take care to guide his ward for improvement in

academics and thus this system helps for improvement of students academic and other

performance.

For Each class every year regular Health Checkup is carried out by Bharati

Hospital Pune

Bharati Hospital is located in the college campus so as per requirements of

36. ACTIVITIES OF THE GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING CELL:

At the departmental level each class is appointed with a guardian faculty member (G. F.

M.). GFM collects all the information of the students of the concerned class about the

attendance of the student in various subjects, the performance of the students in various

examinations conducted by the college and other personal details. He also helps the

students personally by counseling the students in their personal and academic problems.

He also has the interaction with the parents of the students. He informs the parents about

the attendance and performance of the students. He conducts the meeting of the students to

discuss about the complaints and the difficulties of the students and conveys this to the

HOD. HOD of each department conducts meeting of students of each class once in a

month and try to solve the problems faced by the students.

39. HEALTHY PRACTICES OF THE INSTITUTION;

Faculty Development Program: Faculty members are encouraged to acquire

higher education such as M.E. & Ph.D. To update their knowledge department

arranges seminar conferences and work shops. Two staff member’s registries PhD

programme and one staff member pursuing the P.G course.

Liaison with Industry: Students projects sponsored by industries such as Central

Institute of Road Transport, Pune Municipal Corporation, RITES, Department of

Irrigation, Government of Maharashtra., G.D. Khandeshe, Engineers &

Contractors, TATA Motors, Pune etc.

On-the- job training: Apart from syllabus students are taken to sites/field in order

to make them aware with practical aspects in Engineering. During vacation,

students get opportunity to work with well-established companies through which

they are benefited.

Curriculum development: Being a university established under the section (3) of

UGC act 1956; the syllabus are revised. To keep pace with the requirements of the

industry, experts from industry, other universities and engineering colleges are

invited to participate in curriculum development.



Laboratory Development: Laboratories are developed to conduct practical’s in

innovative way to increase analytical & practical skills of the students & that too

with modern equipments, in which students also participate.

Students counseling: A faculty member from the Department is made in-charge of

the class and is designated as Guardian Faculty Member. The Guardian Faculty

Member helps the students to solve personal and academic issues. Head of the

department visits the classes to understand and solve the difficulties of the students.

Regular feedback is taken from the students and interaction between students and

faculty is improved.

Participation in Seminars & Conferences: Staff members are encouraged to

attend the seminars & conferences & permitted to present the research papers,

which encourages them to conduct the research activity.

Guest Lectures: Experts from industry & research organization are invited to

deliver the lectures on various topics related to engineering and interdisciplinary

field.

Department Library: Each department in the college have their own independent

library apart from central library with good number of reference books.

R&D Proposals: The faculty of department routinely submits research proposals to

AICTE, DST, UGC, IE(I) through which funds are received.

STUDENTS SOCIETY ACTIVITIES: Each department have their separate

Student Association for all round developments of the students programs such as

personality developments, achieving soft skills etc.

OTHERS: The Institute has separate computer center and Del-Net facility is made

available to the student and faculty. The Del-Net has connectivity of more than 900

libraries network in India and six other countries. About fifty lacs of record of

books journals and articles are available under this facility

Dare to Dream…This is what the students and staff at Bharati Vidyapeeth University

College of Engineering, celebrating its Silver Jubilee Anniversary, did this spring when

they presented their nation level annual tech-fest, BHARATIYAM 2K8, bigger and better

than ever before. A conglomerate of varied technical and cultural events, BHARATIYAM

08’, was a spectrum of great minds and winners in the true spirit.

The event

was flagged

off on 13th

March 2008

with the

Inaugural Ceremony. The event was graced with the august presence of learned dignitaries

such as Dr. Shivajirao Kadam, Vice Chancellor Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Prof.

Durga Singh Chauhan, Vice Chancellor Jaypee University and Mr. Shekhar Ganpathy,

Managing Director and Vice President, S1 India Ltd. The essence of research and the value

of every degree of effort were emphasized by the guests. The Principal, Dr. A.R. Bhalerao,

put forth the idea of the new technical education model and discussed its implications for

the future.

For the next two days, what followed was a technical and cultural extravaganza. With new

events on the cards and a refined touch to the classic events, BHARATIYAM 2K8 never

saw a dull moment. National and international students measured their grey matter in the

panorama of the events covering varied disciplines of engineering and the performing arts.

The events this year were: Symposium, Contraption, RoboRace, Clash of the Titans,

Words Unplugged, Youth Nexus, Intensive Coding Unit (ICU), Bull & Bears, Fun – O –

Lympics, Naksha, Mental Welter, Acme of Accolade, Torsion, Rise of the Phoenix,

Battleground, Forsaken, Aavishkaar, Aaja Nachle, Spin Doctor, Nukkad Natak and

Madvertisement.

On the final day, 15th

March 2008, the Annual Social Gathering was held. Mr. Mukesh

Malhotra, MD, Weikfield Product Co. (I) Ltd. & Vice President, MCCIA, Pune alongwith

Mr. Vinod Mathew, Editor, The Indian Express graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and

the Guest of Honour respectively. The release of the annual college report was followed by

the Cultural Night with performances from students of the college adding cheer and zest to

the evening.

BHARATIYAM 2K8 saw the achievement of many milestones. More than 5000 students

from 110 colleges across the nation took part in the event. An online registration system

was implemented for the first time for a tech-fest in Pune. A centralized barcode

registration system was introduced for the first time in any technical fest in India.

BHARATIYAM added a new feather to its cap, a cultural one: RHAPSODY, an inter-

collegiate cultural competition was introduced.

The event was held in association with Commonwealth Youth Games and sponsored by

reputed organizations such as TCS, Cognizant, S1 India Ltd., Dabur, Airtel, IMS, Praj

Industries Ltd., TIME to name a few. The Sakaal Group of Publications and the Herald

were the media partners for the event.
