Welcome to THE ANNEX, a prestigious club that you have been looking for. Over the past years, many celebrities and top execu-tives in their various fields have been looking for a place where they can have fun in a safe environment. Wait no longer, the an-nex is here to provide for you a prestigious environment where you can enjoy connectivity. It has been a dream, since the revo-lution of broadcast media, for people with high profiles to meet new friends, and this day the dream have come into reality. The difference of annex is revolutionary, it is not just anoth-er club, it has nothing that has been like this. The revolution is the idea behind annex. More than a physical building, we are bringing to you an exclusive place where you can meet new people, experts in their own fields to discuss projects, come out with new business ventures, innovations of new technology, arts and the humanities. The aim of annex is to create connections between elites so that we will be able to have more collaboration and revolutions in the world. The idea of annex stems from a passionate team of people who dreams of a modern day renaissance. We admire the works of Leornado Da’Vinci, however, we believe that put-ting together the brightest minds, we would be able to surpass the Italian renaissance and attain a greater human flourishing. It is with great honour, and with years of careful planning, that our team proudly presents to you the first ever research venture in the form of a club. Over the course of the year, we would continue to bring in many entertainment and speakers to share with us insights that would inspire. Forging ahead with the latest sneak peaks into technological development and research studies, we guarantee a series of talk that would be awe-inspiring time. I want to take this opportunity to let all our members know that your time here will be comfortable, that every activ-ity and participation will be confidential and all membership is exclusive. We hope your stay here would be lovely. Though we are en-couraging research and development, we are confident that through the course of your membership, you would be able to meet new people who will be like-minded friends. We wish to facilitate for a good time here by offering a bottle of liquor, of your choice on the house, on your first visit. With a committed team, we guarantee a life-changing club that would turn your perspectives and experience the power of community.

Partnering with Takahiro Matsuo, AN-NEX is the answer to a prestigious club that connects you. Traditionally, Night-clubs are places where people to party, enjoy themselves and relax. It does have a notorious reputation for vice activities. However, if one were to look just a little back into history, they would realise that at the heart of nightclub lies the idea of connectivity. From the 1900s, American working class would gather at popular bars, like Honkey Tonks, to dance to mu-sic played by a live band or jukeboxes. By the 1970s such activities have been thriving and find its way into the rich and famous. The upper class would of-ten have private parties, and being able to attend one shows the pristine social

status you have and allows you to get the contact of many of the rich and fa-mous for more business opportunities.

The difference of annex is revolutionary, it is not just another club, it has noth-ing that has been like this. The revolu-tion is the idea behind annex. More than a physical building, we are bring-ing to you an exclusive place where you can meet new people, experts in their own fields to discuss projects, come out with new business ventures, inno-vations of new technology, arts and the humanities. The aim of annex is to create connections between elites so that we will be able to have more col-laboration and revolutions in the world.CO

Takahiro Matsuo was born in Japan in 1979 and graduated from The Art and Information Design Department of Ky-ushu Institute of Design. He created many installations for exhibitions and stage performances. Combining the physical movements of participants with computer graphics, sound and light in interactive creations, the work of Mat-suo is a fantastical experience that re-minds viewers of their imaginations and memories and the light installations produced between reality and unreal-ity, arousing in them a sense of human-ity that transcends nationality and age. In recent years, Matsuo has displayed his work at various exhibitions across the world, including global art and de-sign festivals such as Ars Electronica (Austria), Siggraph (USA),FILE(Brazil), and Milano Salone (Italy).

Takahiro Matsuo is a very innovative con-temporary artist that uses light installa-tions with graphics and sound to create a fantastical scape that encourages inter-action. His ground-breaking work of art, infused into a nightclub would make it a place more than entertainment. It would turn a normal nightclub into one that is prestigious and branded for its ability to bring people together; connectivity.

The important theme and ideas the re-sounds through can be summarized as “the narrative of our reality”. Narrating of our reality is the idea of augmenting a physical space and to give meaning and a story to it, by using various tech-niques of tricking the senses to achieve a total immersive experience. This is

very similar to the idea of clubbing. When a person walks into a nightclub, his reality is automatically heightened by the loud music and constant flash-ing of lights that shapes his reality. The speed of his reality increases with the augmentting of light and sound. This is a sociology idea whereby reality is put into question when someone is put in a total immersive experience. ANNEX Promises to give our exclusive custom-ers an experience that is unforgettable. With state-of-the-art lightings, sound and multimedia projection we create a fantastical scape that sets you apart from the world and bring you into a space you never knew exists. It is not about enter-tainment, it is all about the experience.

In the 1990s, there have been great trends of creating the virtual world, where gamers are able to exist in a differ-ent world, walk around and talk to peo-ple. However, through the last decade of the millennium, it has remained a fantasy. The virtual reality here refers to creating a fantastical realm where spatial emer-sion is at its fullest potential. This is one of the things that differentiate us from other nightclubs. Not only do we want to transform a space, or intrigue the senses of our customers, we wants to transport our customer’s state of mind and even the surrounding into another world. This is our commitment that we pledge.

Takahiro Matsuo is a creator of a series of contemporary art installations using light and motion graphics.

STANLY QUINSTON’S INTRODUCTION TO TAKAHIRO MATSUO

01 Japanese interactive artist Takahiro Matsuo presents White Rain, an installation of white light which focuses on the sense of infinity produced by the behaviour and beauty of light. An irregular rain of light falls and changes as the visitor moves inside the space, creating an immersive experience. With the help of LED bar lights and lighting software, the artist was able to create an exquisite scenery of illuminated raindrops falling from the ceiling. When the viewers in-teracted with the droplets of light, it trickled and changed its form. A motion sensor was used to synchronize the lighting and the sound.

02 The “chandelier that play with light”, treated as lighting a video projection, interactive art object of the new concept video, lighting and interaction is harmony in space.Touching the strings of chandelier and spread in space light and sound to play, to illuminate the space and video light LED lighting are fused.

03 The butterflies react to the light, fly towards it and follow it. If you cover the ball with your hands, the butterflies disappear and you are returnred to the real world. The light ball is equipped with LEDs and serves as the interface, the connection between you and the virtual world of “Phantasm”. The activities of the butterflies and the background soundscape react to changes with respect to the ball — its movements and the varying intensity of its light. These changes are registered by a sensor camera mounted on the ceiling of the in-stallation space, which then relays the information to a computer.

04 Swedish research firm Visual Guidance Systems Scandinavia AB (VGS) developed a new road lighting system con-cept based around OLED luminaires. The basic idea is that the lamps come in different shapes (enabled by OLED area-lighting panel designs) that signals information processes to support drivers – so a lamp above a crossroad or a pedestrian crossing will signal the object beneath it – with lot’s of examples and dis-cussions how this compares with current road luminaries and advantages in safety and traffic management. The Velve panels do not generate any heat, so you can actually sit on this chair.

The ANNEX is a club that connects you to people. Not just people, but also to knowledge and opportuni-ties. The club allows for the participa-tion of ground-breaking discussion among the forerunners in the various industries, giving room for collabora-tions that would change the world.

Of course, all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. Our aim is not for busi-ness discussion, our aim is to provide a space for it. The difference is that even as we would want the exchange of ide-as, we want to do it in a casual way. We want to make the experience in ANNEX personal. This means that unlike in the business world, where you like someone for his idea, we want you to do the exact opposite here in ANNEX. We encourage you to personal, we want you to not only discuss ideas, but to know more about the person you are engaging with.

Networking is about making connec-tions and building enduring, mutually beneficial relationships. Annex oper-ates as a catalyst to ensure you meet the “right” people to include in your network and expand your sphere of influence.Relationships are the catalyst for success. People do business with those they like and trust. Serve as a resource, help others succeed.

Networking provides the most pro-ductive, most proficient and most en-during tactic to build relationships.

CONNECTIVITY — be joined, linked, and fastened together. To unite and bind, to establish communication between and to be put in communication.

“In nature we never see anything isolated, but everything in connection with something else which is before it, beside it, under it and over it.”

— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

In the month of November, we have invited Master Mixologist Gareth Oli-ver to share with us his knowledge and art of classic cocktail mixing.

Oliver has developed his techniques tending bar at many establishments, most notably, Manhattan’s Rainbow Room, where in the late 1970s he pio-neered a gourmet approach to rec-reating the great classic cocktails.

He is also the founder and president of The Museum of the American Cocktail, the first museum in the world dedicated to education in mixology and preserving the rich history of the American cocktail and has been credited with reinventing the profession of bartending and setting off a cocktail explosion around the world. He is also the author of The Craft of the Cocktail, and The Essential Cocktail.

Oliver stresses frequently that the drink will never be any better than the quality of the cheapest ingredient in it, and hence he stresses constantly the need for the highest quality spir-its, liqueurs, cordials, and modifiers.

Oliver first outlines some basic princi-ples for fashioning a quality cocktail:

It should be made from good-quality, high-proof liquors.- It should whet rather than dull the appetite.- - It should be dry, with sufficient alcoholic fla-vor, yet smooth and pleasing to the palate.- - - It should be pleasing to the eye.- - - -It should be well-iced.- - - - -

Embury breaks all cocktail ingre-dients down into three categories:

The base is the principal ingredient of the cocktail. It is typically a single spirit such as rum, gin, or whiskey, and typical-ly makes up 75 percent or more of the total volume of the cocktail before icing.

The modifying agent is the ingredi-ent that gives the cocktail its charac-ter. Its function is to soften the raw al-cohol taste of the base, while at the same time to enhance its natural flavor. Typical modifying agents are aromatic wines (such as vermouth) and spirits (such as Fernet Branca or Amer Picon), bitters, fruit juices and “smoothing agents” such as sugar, eggs, and cream.

Special flavoring and coloring agents include liqueurs (such as Grand Marnier or Chartreuse), Cordials, Bit-ters like Angostura Bitters, etc. and non-alcoholic flavored syrups (such as Grenadine or Orgeat syrup). These are typically used in place of simple syrup, and are to be used sparingly.
