Life at Land’s End has been a

joy this past month. The fall

temperatures have been perfect

for golf on The Links and for

other outdoor activities. We

have received approximately 6

inches of rain during the past

month and it has been a welcome

relief after the summer drought.

It seems that almost all of our

trees have survived the past 3

months of heat and lack of rain.

The creeks connecting to Lake

Fork are beginning to bring some

water into the lake during each rain so we are hopeful Lake Fork will re-

turn to it’s normal level soon. It’s a great time to be living at Land’s End.

As we look around the area we are reminded by our beautiful lake and

trees how blessed we are to be living in this great country.

The fall colors at Land’s End are great this time of the year.

Land’s End’s Deer Harvest Reaps Huge Benefits

Recycle Message

The Upper Sabine Valley Solid Waste Management District provides four

Waste Management Stations in the area for disposal of virtually any solid

waste material. Materials accepted include items like computer equipment,

mattress’s, scrap metal, appliances (w/o Freon), garbage items, glass,

Styrofoam, etc. Used motor oil in sealed, 1 gallon containers may now be

deposited at any of these stations. Hazardous materials like insecticides can-

not be accepted.

All Waste Stations are open 9 am to 5 pm, Tues thru Sat, except holidays.

The stations are located at:

Precinct #1 1216 CR 1912, Yantis 903-383-2545

Precinct #2 705 CR 2353, Golden 903-768-2411

Precinct #3 2589 CR 3980, Hawkins 903-769-3645

Precinct #4 1999 N FM 312, Winnsboro 903-629-3436

If you have items that should not be deposited

at our Recycle Center, please dispose of them

at one of the Waste Stations listed .

The first several hundred pounds of processed deer meat has been distributed to the Good Samaritan’s

food bank and the Lake Fork Baptist Church. There were hundreds of packages of ground meat, round

steak, back strap, and tenderloin. The Good Samaritan food bank in Rains County was completely with-

out any meat; they only had canned goods available and were thrilled to be able to provide meat to about

60 families.

The Good Samaritan organization qualifies everyone who comes to them for assistance. Everyone must

go through a background check and be financially qualified to receive their help. They want to help

everyone they possibly can but their resources are very limited. They do get help from area churches

and many of the Good Samaritan clients are referred to them by the various churches. Weekly, area vol-

unteers travel to the Tyler Food Bank and bring back thousands of pounds of produce. During the Holi-

day season, there always seems to be more families in need and fewer food products to spread around.

You can be assured that the meat harvested by Land’s End has been well received.

This is a thank you note from the Rains County Good Samaritans for our donation of deer meat:

“Thank you so much for your donation to the Rains County Good Samaritans. As you would expect, the

number of people needing assistance has increased in the past year. With caring people like you, our

county can more fully meet those increased needs. So far this year we have helped over nine thousand

people with an average three hundred families a month. One of the hardest things to get from the food

bank is meat, so your donation, especially during the Christmas Season, is greatly needed and appreciat-

ed. Thank you again for helping the needy in our county.”

The First Baptist Church received roasting meat as well as ground meat and stew meat. They will pro-

vide dinners for needy families that they serve.

Jake Gorman, a regular golfer at The Links at Land’s End, is

the grandson of HOA Members Katie & John Gorman.

Jake, who is pictured at the age of 5, played in his first golf

tournament at age 7. Today he is a standout golfer at Quit-

man High School. It was announced recently that Jake has

been awarded a golf scholarship by the University of Texas

at Arlington.

Jake has led his high school team to the State Finals the past

3 years and the team won the State Title in 2010. He is the

son of Jay & Jan Gorman of Quitman. Jay formerly played

basketball at the University of Oklahoma, and was the OU

team captain his senior year under coach John McCloud.

Jake has won over 150 junior golf tournaments across the

nation and is ranked by Golfweek in the top 200 of Junior

Golfers in the United States.

UT Arlington is a top 40 golf program (out of 320 teams that

play Division I golf). They play in first class tournaments

and their schedule includes annual visits to Hawaii, Mexico,

California, Arizona, Notre Dame & Florida. The UTA golf

coach is currently rated as the top short-game coach in the

college game.

Lake Fork Reservoir Report

The Lake Fork Reservoir is currently about 5.76 feet below it’s mean level.

With the recent rains we have been receiving in the area, you are

probably wondering about the water level at Lake Fork. The Lake

Fork Reservoir water storage has increased from less that 484,000

acre-feet on December 3, to 490,200 acre-feet, as of December 12.

In calendar year 2010, the average storage level was 671,700 acre-

feet, and it ranged between 612,800 and 715,700 acre-feet during

2010. The current water storage amount is about 70% of the mean

storage amount in 2010.

Of course the water level at Lake Fork is changing on a daily basis.

If you are interested in viewing these and other statistics, they are

updated daily on the USGS website at : http://waterdata.usgs.gov/

tx/nwis/uv/?site_no=08018800&PARAmeter_cd=72020,00054.

Maintaining the Land’s End Neighborhood

Jerry Busbee, Chester Martin and Jim Parker have

repaired the fountain adjacent to The Links swim-

ming pool. This is a nice improvement. Thanks

guys!

Jim Parker and Chester Martin recently repaired

the damaged stone at the front gate. Doug John-

son and Chip Gomez can always be counted on to

make sure the gate is programmed and working

properly. Doug also regulates the sprinkler sys-

tem for the Villas.

LEVFD Community Center

The Land’s End Voluntary Fire Department Community Center (often called Meeting Room) is available

for local group gatherings. This large room is provided free of charge, but donations to the LEVFD are

gratefully accepted for use of the facilities that include a kitchen, along with plenty of table and chairs. The

only request from the fire department is that the group using the facility clean it up after it’s use in order to

maintain it in good working order for all groups using the service. Call Betty Stribley at (903) 383-2161 if

you would like to reserve a time slot for the meeting room.

You should have received in the

mail your copy of the 2012 LE-

HOA homeowner’s dues state-

ment, along with an invitation to

the LEHOA Christmas Party. I

also requested an update of the

information needed for the

Land’s End directory. If you did

not receive this please let me

know so that I can get it to you.

Just like Santa I checked my list

twice to be sure I was getting it

to everyone but I cannot control

the mail and it may not have got-

ten to you. PLEASE be sure and

fill out and return the infor-

mation requested. I know you

think that nothing has changed

but you would be surprised at

how many people think that and

then we get their email’s back as

undeliverable or we call and find

that a phone number is not accu-

rate. We also need the emergency

contact information for everyone.

If anything were to happen to

your property or you while you

are at Land’s End we need to

know who to contact for you. We

hope to not have to use the emer-

gency information but if some-

thing happens it is very important

for us to have it on file.

I am planning on putting out a

new directory as soon as I re-

ceive all the completed forms,

and I have included a signature

line on the form for you to sign

if you DO NOT want your infor-

mation included. It has been a

while since we have had an up-

dated directory and I want all the

information to be as accurate as

possible. Thanks in advance for

your cooperation in this matter.

if you have questions or did not

receive your statement.

New Aquatic Habitat Planted

2012 Homeowner’s Dues Statement & More

News From The Links at Land’s End

Recently, the Lake Fork Sportsman’s Association in conjunction with the Texas Parks and Wildlife

Department planted hundreds of Buttonbush plants on the Lake Fork shoreline. These plants will create

aquatic habitat as the lake level continues to fluctuate as Dallas draws water from our lake.

The Lake Fork Sportsman’s Association (LFSA) is a group of fishermen, hunters, business owners and

home owners dedicated to preserving, protecting and promoting Lake Fork. This group will likely

become more important in our lives as we learn to live with an ever changing lake level. In order for us

to enjoy the lake as we have in the past, we’ll need to learn to be flexible as we deal with the changing

lake levels. ( Our own Arlan Jaeger just became president of this great organization)

Land’s End Voluntary Fire Department News

Your volunteer fire department has been actively working for an ISO (Insurance Survey Organization) insur-

ance certification for the past few weeks. This accounts for all of the fire department activity you may have

seen on Private Road 5980 this past week. If the tests result is a rating of 7 for the LEVFD, the residents of

Land’s End, and other local residents could see their fire insurance rates reduced by as much as 30%.

The LEVFD building was completed in 2003, thanks to the fine efforts of T.J. Henshaw and a lot of volun-

tary contributions by local and surrounding area residents. They are chartered by the state of Texas, and a

contract is established with Wood County every year. There are

now 13 volunteer fire fighters, currently led by the fire chief Rick

Nichols, and 8 fire trucks in the fire department. All of the volun-

teers live in surrounding communities, outside of Land’ End. The

fire department recently purchased a 2009 flatbed truck they will

convert to a fire attack vehicle. The added vehicle will be

equipped with a 300 gallon tank and a compressed air foam sys-

tem to improve their fire fighting capability.

There have been about 260 First Responder calls to our fire de-

partment this year, and approximately 90 % of the calls are medi-

cally related. Fortunately for us, there is a qualified EMT para-

medic and four certified 1st responders on the fire fighting team who will rush to the scene after a 911 call.

The first responders are normally the first on the scene and they enhance ambulance service by stabilizing a

patient prior to the arrival of an ambulance. Fire department calls are dispatched from the sheriff’s depart-

ment after a 911 call is received.
