Foreword by Madame Le Marchand

These days everyone knows that sorcerers don't exist and, therefore, that no one can predict the future in any particu-lar form. Nevertheless, there are still a few people who prac-tice cartomancy as a pure and simple leisure activity. Our little book is meant for them.

The difference between our book and the other books of the same kind is the selection of the oracles. The author con-sidered that a game of whatever kind would be unlikely to entertain people if it left unpleasant feelings in the minds of those who practiced it.

Therefore, the author only collected the oracles that were likely to bring some leisure and smiles to the lips of the charming female readers who might browse it. May this book achieve such a thing! In this way it will have reached its goal and, by reading this book, our gentle readers will earn that laughter which adds to graces and beauty.

Method

To get an oracle with cards, we use a spread made of 78 tarots.a Here are the figures and their corre-sponding meanings:

4 kings Numbers 22, 36, 50, 64 4 queens Numbers 23, 37, 51, 65 4 knights Numbers 24, 38, 52, 66 4 pages Numbers 25, 39, 53, 67 4 tens Numbers 26, 40, 54, 68 4 nines Numbers 27, 41, 55, 69 4 eights Numbers 28, 42, 56, 70 4 sevens Numbers 29, 43, 57, 71 4 sixes Numbers 30, 44, 58, 72 4 fives Numbers 31, 45, 59, 73 4 fours Numbers 32, 46, 60, 74 4 threes Numbers 33, 47, 61, 75 4 twos Numbers 34, 48, 62, 76 4 aces Numbers 35, 49, 63, 77

You find there card no 1, which represents the male consulting person, and card no 8, which represents the female consulting person.

The six days of creation are numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. The four cardinal virtues are numbers 9, 10, 11 and 12. Then come the remarkable events of man's life under numbers 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 78.

Operationb

After shuffling the spread both ways—that is to say by shuffling the cards alternately upwards and down-wards—you must have the spread cut by the consult-ing person, who must use her left hand, which is crit-ical to success.

Then you must take the first 42 cards of the spread and make six piles of seven that you will place on the table in the following order:

You must take these piles one after the other begin-ning with the first, and you must spread their cards on one line going from right to left. Therefore, you will have what follows:

b The operation we give above is borrowed from a very thorough book entitled The Grand Etteilla or the Art of Reading Cards, etc., etc., by Julia Orsini, a big in-12 volume with the 78 figures, etc., etc. (See the catalog at the end of this volume). At the same addresses, you can also purchase a book bearing on the art of reading the cards. Its title is Genuine Cartomancy, by French sibyl L. Norma. It is a new edition adorned with 1750 draw-ings.

Page 10: The Amusements of Cartomancy - Abracax · tice cartomancy as a pure and simple leisure activity. Our little book is meant for them. The difference between our book and the other books

Le Marchand

8

All in all, you will have seven piles of six cards each.

Then take the first card of each of these piles, shuffle them and form a line from the right to the left accord-ing to the way Easterners write.

Next, take two cards from each pile, shuffle and form two lines of seven in the same way as is explained above.

Pick up the remaining twenty-one cards, shuffle them and form three lines of seven, which you must place after the three others.

When this is done, you will have six lines of seven cards.

At this point you must explain them following what is said from page 11 to page 88, starting from the right and finishing on the left.

Thus, let’s suppose you are reading the cards for a young girl and that, on the first line, you find numbers 63, 20, 64, 77, 44, 13 and 42.

Take no 8, the female consulting person, out of the game and place it to the right of no 42, as below:

Page 11: The Amusements of Cartomancy - Abracax · tice cartomancy as a pure and simple leisure activity. Our little book is meant for them. The difference between our book and the other books

The Amusements of Cartomancy

9

You say:

8 The female consulting person. 42 A young fair-haired girl. 13 Marriage. 44 Future. 77 Happiness. 64 Brown-haired man. 20 Fortune. 63 Pregnancy.

It is easy to formulate an oracle as below. You say: 8 is the female consulting person, 42 is a fair-haired girl, 13 heralds marriage, 44 that the marriage will take place soon, 77 that it will be a happy one, 64 that the husband-to-be will be a brown-haired man, 20 that he will be rich and 63 that they will have many children.

When no 8 is present in the line, you place it at the beginning and replace it with a card taken at random in the spread so as to complete the line of seven cards.

When you make the spread for a man, you do for no 1 that which is said above for no 8.

If, with this first line, you haven't managed to form a sentence that may be explained clearly, as in the case where, instead of no 64, which represents a brown-haired man, you find no 23, which is a country-woman, or another card that breaks the logic of the sentence, you will explain the 2nd line and so on until you manage to complete an oracle that makes sense.

Here is the simplified meaning of the 78 tarots:

Author’s Note: You can replace the great game of the Ladies' Oracle with the great game of the 78 Egyptian Tarots, which only costs 6 francs and is just as useful; nevertheless, you must make sure to purchase the one called Blismon, the numbers of which correspond to the game of the Ladies' Oracle.

No 1 Chaos

This card is the figure of chaos; it always represents the one who asks for, or wants to get, an oracle through a tarot game. If this card didn’t come up, you would have to look for it in the spread that you dealt and place it at the beginning of the line if the consultation was taking place for a man; on the

other hand, for a woman, you would have to cancel it and replace it with no 8.

This tarot usually means lack of success, whether it comes up in its natural position or otherwise.

Nevertheless, if it came up between two other lucky tarots, it could be said to be a good omen.

Between a King and a Queen, it means marriage, greatness, success, fortune.

No 2 Light

You can see the sun. It is natural light; the nearness of this tarot is always favorable.

When the consulting person is a man, it means certain glory, greatness, success.

If the consulting person is a young girl, this card heralds a very close marriage. If the con-

sulting person is a lady, it tells her that she will have beautiful children.

Situated near no 13, it heralds that the female con-sulting person will participate in balls, parties, pic-nics.

When the consultation is made for a man, it prom-ises honors and rewards. If no 21 is on the line, this heralds a desired union.

This is a card that alters an oracle very much, for it is usually beneficial.

No 3 Plants

Here is a tarot that represents several things: plants, water, the earth, the moon or the night. It would surely be hard to interpret if each thing were to have a dif-ferent meaning but the near-ness of the other cards alters or changes its meaning very much.

Near no 23, it warns you that you will get news from the countryside, bouquets and flowers.

Near no 45, it heralds that the consulting person will receive an inheritance whereas, near no 47, it warns you that you will take part in a considerable banquet.

When this tarot comes up reversed, it heralds small vexations, the postponement of days in the country-side, dark weather; in the winter, it always heralds ex-cessive cold.

17

No 4 The Sky

The meaning of this tarot had looked portentous to the for-tune-tellers of Antiquity but, in such cases, they assumed it came up with portentous ta-rots. If it comes with no 20, it advises you to take care of your fortune and your reputation.

Near no 17, it predicts you will receive news from far coun-

tries.

If it is reversed, it predicts you will be surprised by rain if you persist in making the trip to the country-side that you have been mentioning lately.

If the consultation is being made for a lady, it pre-dicts she will have very nice surprises.

18

No 5 Man &

Quadrapeds

This card heralds greater success in all possible under-takings. This will be military success if the consulting per-son belongs to the army, a large fortune if she is a store-keeper and indomitable cour-age if she is a conscript.

When a lady is consulting and if this tarot comes with a knight, it heralds that she will soon receive news of a female friend who lives far from her. If this tarot is preceded by a page, it is a sign of opulence, and when one of the four Kings or one of the four Queens is present either before or afterwards, it pre-dicts that you will enjoy greatness.

Near no 78, it seems to be unfavorable, but inatten-tion is all that you need fear from it.

No 6 Stars

This tarot, which represents the stars, can only refer to no 4; nevertheless, the zodiac signs add to its value.

When upright, it is a sign that the consulting person, whether male or female, will enjoy a long life.

When reversed, it tells you that light has been or will be shed on a very mysteri-ous matter that has kept you extremely worried for some time.

Nevertheless, near no 16, it only heralds things re-lated to natural phenomena, such as extraordinary rains, frost, snow, thunderstorms.

Sometimes, when a lady is consulting, it heralds a nice surprise.

20

No 7 Birds & Fish

The genuine meaning of this tarot is deep peace. If this card comes up reversed, it predicts that your foes will be thwarted. Near no 5, it promises that you will receive the support of a major figure.

When the consulting lady is young, it heralds that one of

her old relatives will give her an aviary full of the most beautiful exotic birds for her New Year gift.

If you are reading the cards for a man, this tarot pre-dicts that he will make a miraculous catch when fish-ing on a day at the countryside.

Near no 71, it can also be interpreted as follows: the consulting person will inherit from a distant relative.

21

No 8 Rest

If you are dealing the cards for a lady and this card is not among the ones you have drawn, you must take it from the spread and place it at the beginning of the line. If you are dealing the cards for a man, you will need to exchange it for no 1.

The genuine meaning of tarot no 8 is temptation: therefore, the consulting person must be warned that she is surrounded by traps. Nevertheless, placed near numbers 9, 13 or 35, it is a favorable omen.

When this card comes up reversed and with num-bers 14, 17 and 18, it only yields obscure predictions and you must start reading the cards all over again.

22

No 9 Justice

For you, this tarot, which represents Justice with its at-tributes, heralds a complete success in the trial that you have begun; its meaning is dif-ferent when it comes up re-versed but, near numbers 9 and 22, it is considerably al-tered, for all you need fear is delays.

If the consulting person has no trial going on, this tarot tells her that she has rightfully got the esteem of honest people. Yet, if it comes up reversed, it means that unjust suspicions are going around on her ac-count. Near numbers 18 and 27, whatever position this card comes in, it guarantees that she will be held in high esteem by everyone.

If you are dealing the cards for a young girl, this card predicts she will be successful.

23

No 10 Temperance

Here is a tarot which has only one meaning: temperance. Thus, whatever position it comes up in, upright or re-versed, it tells you to temper yourself in all things.

Temperance is a virtue that few people have at all degrees, but the one who can master

herself reaches any superiority easily.

The old interpreters of tarots always regarded this card as one of the best omens, because it told the one for whom the cards were being dealt that she would get the most brilliant results.

If the consulting person is a serviceman, it points to great courage and value; for a young girl, this tarot predicts that she will marry a husband who is en-dowed with the best qualities.

24

No 11 Strength

Fortune-tellers have always interpreted this tarot in the most favorable way. If it comes up upright, it heralds honors, riches and all the best chances of success.

If this tarot comes up re-versed, then, it can mean dis-grace, but only if the tarot on the left or the tarot on the right

is portentous. If it comes up with no 51, it warns you that you will get considerable presents or even a mag-nificent inheritance.

If the consulting person is a lady or a young girl, it heralds great success in a ball or in another get-to-gether. If the consulting person is a warrior, it means promotion, success in battle. If the consulting person is a litigant, it means that he will win his case.

The Amusements of Cartomancy

25

No 12 Prudence

This tarot warns you that you must be on your guard all the time. The serpent stands for the tempting demon.

Yet, if this tarot comes up with numbers 9, 10 or 11, it is a sign that you have conducted your business well.

Next to no 64, it heralds diffi-culties that do not matter that much, and this oracle is altered by the following card if it is one of the four knights or of the four pages, for, in this case, it pre-dicts that you can rely on your friends, who will oblige you at all times.

26

No 13 The Great

Priest

If the consulting person is a young man, this card predicts that he will soon marry the per-son that he desires. This pre-diction means the same thing when the consulting person is a young girl that must be mar-ried: she will marry the young

man that she has chosen.

Yet, when the consulting person is married, then, the oracle speaks for a very close male or female rela-tive.

Next to no 57, it predicts that you and a person with whom you had recently had a dispute will make up.

Near no 70, it heralds a marriage and the consequent birth of many children.

27

No 14 The Devil

This tarot has been inter-preted in different ways. It re-quires the greatest attention from the one who deals the cards; for example, if it comes up upright and with no 12, you have nothing to fear because its meaning is completely altered by its good company.

When reversed, it announces that you have resisted the demon and that your reason is stronger than all prejudices.

Near no 78, it indicates that you will soon take part in very beautiful parties, in town or even in the coun-tryside.

28

No 15 The Wizard

This card heralds an im-portant and unforeseen change in your position. The wizard's wand indicates that this predic-tion will become real very soon.

Next to no 17, it warns you of imminent peril and, preceded or followed by no 70, it indicates dangers caused by unpleasant acquaintances.

If this tarot came up reversed and was followed by no 78, this would indicate that you were being extrav-agant or only thoughtless but, if it was next to no 65, you would have reason to fear unpleasant news, which you were nevertheless expecting.

29

No 16 The Last

Judgement

If you have a trial going on, this tarot announces to you that it will be over soon; if you only have trouble, worries, it predicts that things will turn out in your favor; if you have made projects, it predicts that that they will soon be realized

as you wished them to. If you are unsure of how a great undertaking will turn out, it predicts that you must be cautious.

When reversed, this tarot tells the consulting person that her judgment is questionable and that she must ask for advice before deciding to do anything.

Near no 58, it warns you that you will be required to judge a little dispute between relatives; near no 15, it tells you that your decision will please everyone.

30

No 17 Death

If this tarot comes up re-versed, it tells you that your hopes will be disappointed.

Near no 4, it warns you that you must not go on the journey in question if it is to take place in foul weather. It tells you that you must be cautious at all times, avoid werewolves and rabid dogs.

This tarot is often bad company for the others; it pre-vents one from formulating an oracle and then it must be removed from the line. We believe that it is better to do the reading all over again because it is ominous and because the consulting person is not forced to try to interpret things that are above that which fits in the field of amusement.

31

No 18 The Capuchin

This card warns you that un-pleasant jibes were made on your account, but that no one wanted to believe in them: the deceit was discovered.

Placed near no 66, this tarot is favorable to you, because it means that, in any case, you will have people to support you

and that gossip cannot reach you.

The lantern that the character is holding means that the light must enlighten the people who doubt the truth; the dog is here the emblem of friendship, be-cause it is the animal that is the most loyal to its mas-ter.

Placed near no 20, it heralds great sources of satis-faction.

32

No 19 Temple Struck By Lightning

This tarot heralds the coming of extraordinary things, but those things are only danger-ous when this tarot comes up upright and with numbers 10 and 62. This oracle is always altered by the company of fa-vorable cards. If, for example, it

is followed by the king, the lady, the knight or the page of coins, it warns you that you will soon inherit; if it keeps company with numbers 36 to 39, this heralds plentiful crops.

When reversed, next to no 59, it heralds shipwrecks, but you are only affected by this prediction if you are just about to set sail; otherwise, you would only have to fear a considerable shower during a day in the countryside.

33

No 20 Wheel of Fortune

This tarot is always a very fa-vorable omen; it heralds for-tune for the one who has got none and a considerable in-crease for the one who has got a little of it.

On its own, coming up up-right or reversed, it heralds el-

evation, dignities and honors.

In the company of the other tarots, it adds fortune to their predictions. It destroys the unpleasant mean-ing of the card that comes before or after it and, when it comes up with numbers 9 or 10 or 11 or 12, it indi-cates that the consulting person has got great moral qualities.

When you are doing the spread for a serviceman, it heralds an upcoming promotion.

No 21 The Despot

There are two ways to inter-pret this tarot. In the first way, it can tell the one for whom you are dealing the cards that she will reach an elevated position. According to the second mean-ing, the consulting person will fall under the domination of some foreign person or will feel vexations that she will have to

endure through all sorts of reflections.

If you are dealing the cards for a young man, it means that the woman that he will marry will rule over him in all things; if you are doing it for a young girl, it predicts that her husband-to-be will have a fortune greater than hers.

When you make the spread for a person of power, this card tells this person that she is held in high es-teem by her superiors.

No 22 King of Wands

Here is a tarot that heralds unforeseen success, news of relatives who live in distant countries. If this tarot comes up after no 20, you will inherit from an uncle or an aunt from America; if it is re-versed, it warns you that you must use your fortune cau-tiously.

With no 78, it is a less favorable omen; it warns you that your projects will be thwarted by a mad person. Yet, if no 12 is among the cards that are to form an oracle, it serves to warn you that good advice will come to help you in your endeavors and that it will contrib-ute to the success of the affair in question.

When preceded by no 14, it heralds an illustrious marriage for the one for whom you are dealing the cards.

When the consulting person is a young girl, this ta-rot warns her that people will say things about her and that she will be quite upset by that if the above-mentioned tarot is in the company of no 46.

Near numbers 44 and 78, it tells you that you will have surprising dreams; you will attend sumptuous parties, balls and shows but it will all take place in your dream.

No 57 Seven of Swords

Number seven has always been regarded as very favora-ble by fortune-tellers because, since the world was created in six days, the seventh was ded-icated to rest.

If the consulting person is in business, this tarot tells him

that, after making a great fortune, he will withdraw in a beautiful estate in the countryside.

When you make the spread for a married woman, no 57 near a reversed no 63 heralds that the woman in question will have many children.

Near no 71, this card heralds an inheritance because of which there will be lawsuits between the co-inheri-tors; yet, everything will end with a good settlement.

If the consulting person is about to get married or to do anything else of a great importance, this tarot warns her that she must be a good judge of the advice that was given to her.

No 58 Six of Swords

This card predicts that you will go on a leisure trip or great happy moments like wedding balls or splendid shows. Near no 9, this tarot tells you that the trial in question will be conducted shortly and with an outcome that you will entirely appreciate.

If this tarot comes up re-versed near no 20, it warns you that a very old aunt is busy writing her testament and that you will be listed in it.

After no 27, this card tells you that there will be de-lays in an affair that worries you quite a lot and then vexations to which you will be very sensitive because of the indecisiveness that is usually part of all your undertakings; yet, on the other hand, when no 22 comes up on the line, it predicts that you will be sat-isfied by all that you have dreamed of obtaining.

No 59 Five of Swords

This card warns you that someone is more interested in your purse than in your per-son; therefore, don't allow that person to drag you into specu-lations that would cause irrep-arable damage to you.

Next to no 66, this card warns you that you should save up for

a rainy day and remember that you can never recover lost time.

Near tarots 24 or 33, it tells the consulting person that she will have to face domestic vexations.

When this card comes up reversed, it tells you that you will soon attend some solemn ceremony, and the meaning is exclusively pleasant if it is altered by the tarots that come afterwards or before.

No 60 Four of Swords

When this tarot comes up first, it predicts that you will soon feel like blending in some community.

Near no 56, it is the sign of vexations; the consulting per-son will have to make an un-wanted journey; she will be forced to make a rather distant

journey for which she feels a complete dislike. When reversed, this card tells you that your affairs will be successful if you always put that much order and good management into them.

If this tarot is near no 19, you will be threatened by the opposite. You would be ruined soon if good advice did not manage to stop you from squandering away your money.

Near no 21, this tarot heralds discussions or weak quarrels followed by reconciliations.

No 61 Three of Swords

When this tarot comes up with no 20, it tells you that for-tune is fickle and quickly weary; you have to find how to retain its favors or how to make use of the opportunity.

When reversed, this card in-dicates mistakes of various

kinds, a way of seeing things that is the consulting person's own and is very different from common sense.

When this tarot is close to no 5, it heralds a broken marriage or a marriage about to be broken, in a family that is close to you or even in yours; yet, the tarots that follow destroy this oracle when immediately fol-lowed by a favorable card for, in this case, all you have to fear is a squabble.

No 62 Two of Swords

This tarot is very often a fa-vorable omen but only if the cards that surround it are fa-vorable too.

If the consulting person is a lady or a young girl, it predicts that she will receive very grace-ful gifts; she will be offered bouquets with the rarest flow-

ers.

If the consulting person is a man, it heralds that he will get what he is soliciting and that he will be sup-ported by some honorable figure.

It only tells the farmer that he will have poor crops if it always comes up with unfavorable numbers such as 19 or 56; otherwise, it is only a meaningless oracle.

No 63 Ace of Swords

This tarot was sometimes in-terpreted in a very unfavorable way by fortune-tellers; in it, they saw dismal omens for people and properties; some-times, they also regarded it as a sign of misery.

No 63 must be one of the least cheerful cards; near no 4, it heralds pecuniary vexations

and, in the company of no 47, it indicates that you will be helped by a member of your family.

Sometimes, this tarot is found in the company of no 48 and, when you are dealing the cards for a lady, this predicts that she will have children.

When reversed, it indicates confusion in a young girl's matrimonial projects.

No 64 King of Coins

This tarot shows a character with a black face or character who is trying to harm you in your fortune but whose evil designs will be quickly thwarted.

If the consulting person was a woman or a married man, this tarot would indicate a

matrimonial squabble. Yet, in the company of a favor-able number, it predicts that a person who tried to be pleasant with you by reestablishing union in your couple will soon succeed in this endeavor.

When this tarot is drawn by a sailor, it predicts that he will go on a long trip in which he will have to face foul weather but which will turn out to be very lucra-tive.

In the company of no 58, it heralds that you will en-counter unimportant accidents during a short jour-ney.

No 65 Queen of Coins

The interpretation of this card is a good omen. It predicts that you will be offered rich presents by a wealthy relative who lives in the countryside.

If the consulting person is a young man and if this tarot comes first, it tells him that he will marry soon and that the person whom he will marry will

be a very rich brown-haired young girl.

Near no 69, it heralds difficulties; followed by no 45, it heralds a donation by a very remote relative.

When reversed, this tarot heralds a small ailment, which will be short-lived, though.

With no 21, it heralds a duel that will cause quite a stir but that will only frighten the duelists without hurting anyone.

No 66 Knight of Coins

This card is almost insignifi-cant for a particular oracle. It announces useful discoveries for industry. It sometimes warns you that you will be asked to lend money to people but that you will refuse, in spite of the trust deserved by the one who solicits your benevolence.

When reversed, it indicates that you will miss good opportunities; it means care-lessness, laziness, idleness.

When the consulting person is a serviceman, it her-alds impending peace; next to no 32, it heralds honors that will be due to favors.

It advises a young girl not to behave foolishly, be-cause she would then have to face unexpected vexa-tions.

When this card comes up first and when you are dealing the cards for a lady, it predicts that a very amiable man will have great attentions for her; near no 34, it means the very opposite.

When reversed, this card means dissipation, squander-

ing; the tarot that comes after it completes the predic-tion.

When no 45 comes after or before this tarot, it means that you must care for your fortune and compute your expenditures better; it also says that you will quickly squander away the in-heritance that you are expect-ing or that you will waste easily earned sums of money.

When the consulting person holds a high position, it tells her that her generosity does her more than harm than good.

No 68 Ten of Coins

In itself, this tarot hasn't got much meaning. It means the house; therefore, it is useful to carefully interpret the cards that come before and after it.

When this card comes up with no 31 in its natural posi-tion, it heralds the presence of a treasure in the house.

Near no 21, it tells you that you will earn money that you were probably not expecting to earn.

In the company of no 47, it predicts that you will soon be paid the sum that you were demanding from a person who didn't hurry to give you your due.

Near no 49, it heralds a party in your house, either a christening, a wedding or a betrothal.

If this tarot comes up upright and near a number the inter-pretation of which is unambig-uous, it confirms its interpreta-tion. When reversed and near a favorable number, it tells you that you will be the victim of a bad taste joke.

Near no 71, it warns you that a person to whom you have lent money is not in very good faith and that you will regret your excessive gen-erosity; yet, if no 20 comes with it, it is likely that you won't lose anything at all.

It also indicates traps when the number that pre-cedes it is tarot 78, but the purpose of the trap in question is to make you do some not quite reasonable deed.

When this card comes up up-right, it means beauty, but it receives its genuine interpreta-tion from the tarots that come with it.

Near no 18, it warns you that a wicked woman is trying to harm you; near no 75, it is questionable because the in-

tentions of the person who wants to interfere in your secrets are good.

If the consulting person is a bachelor and if this card is followed by no 73, it heralds success of different kinds.

When this tarot comes up upside down, it warns the consulting person that she will be the victim of a bar-gain in which the confidence that she had in people pretending to be in good faith will be abused.

No 71 Seven of Coins

This tarot warns you that you must be cautious and only con-fide in people who deserve it.

With numbers 20, 31 or 45, it indicates that you will earn money, have a small inher-itance or earn any sum of money that will come in good time to re-establish your finan-

cial position.

When you are dealing the cards for a young girl, this tarot tells her that her intended has got more qualities than riches.

When reversed, it tells you that someone will soon borrow money from you and that you can trust the one who will ask you for help.

After no 45, it heralds the opposite.

Near no 78, this card tells you that the worries that torment you are ill-founded.

When a reversed no 71 is preceded or followed by no 9, it is a very good omen and then it alters the un-pleasant predictions of the neighboring cards.

No 72 Six of Coins

This tarot is the sign of the in-stability of things here below; it heralds a fortune that the con-sulting person will not be able to enjoy because of his ambi-tion.

Near no 76, it heralds trou-ble of all kinds, but this predic-tion is very much altered when a reversed no 33 appears on the

same line.

If you are dealing the cards for a young girl and if numbers 20 and 12 are before or after this card, it tells her that a great lady's protection will help her to marry a wonderful husband.

If this card is near no 25, you will receive a letter that you had been expecting for a long time and that will put an end to your uncertainty.

ily; next to no 13, it indicates that everything will be fine and, followed by no 20, it heralds unexpected suc-cess.

Near no 12, it advises the consulting person not to get carried away by her passions.

When reversed, this card indicates unpleasant dis-orders; before or after no 62, it makes you hope for protections that will enable you to shield yourself from all the misfortunes that you will have to struggle against owing to your lavishness.

No 74 Four of Coins

Here is a tarot of good omen: relatives who live in America will send you great gifts.

Near no 40, when the consult-ing person is a woman, this card predicts that a friend will offer her very graceful gifts.

If you are dealing the cards for a bachelor, this card tells

him that the marriage in question will not succeed but that he will make another one closer to his position.

Near no 36, this card warns you that you will only get the position that you wish through the help of pre-sents or even of values that will at least express your gratitude.

When reversed, this tarot indicates a certain opposi-tion to your success, but you must persevere in your endeavors. If the consulting person is a serviceman, it means that he will overcome his foes.

When this tarot comes up near no 29, it tells you that a foreign man, of a high social rank, will do a lot for you. If no 35 comes just afterwards, it heralds that you will have money troubles. Near no 47, if the consulting person is a ser-viceman, this card predicts that he will get some medal after a

brilliant affair.

If the consulting person is a young girl and if the card comes up near no 7, it predicts that she will have good protection.

When reversed, this card only acquires meaning through the ones that come after it or before it; there-fore, you must remove it from the line because it could be a card the meaning of which is incompatible with the meanings of the other ones.

The positive meaning of this tarot is confusion, uncertainty. You will find it difficult to con-clude the affair that you have undertaken. This card also in-dicates that the people close to you do not approve of your be-havior and advises you to follow the promptings of wisdom.

Near no 16, it means suc-cess, a trial that has been ruled to your advantage and a favorable outcome that should come soon; tarot 64 indicates opposition if it comes after no 76.

When the two of coins comes up upside down, it predicts something unfavorable; it heralds bickering, quarrels, but you must not give up because it also says that you are hardly involved in these quar-rels.

Near no 13, this card heralds happiness in marriage and, besides, a large fortune if it is accompanied by no 20.

When reversed, this tarot heralds, either for you or for a close relative, the discovery of a good deal that will inevitably help you to earn a great fortune. Be-sides, thanks to this fortune, you will have a splendid coach with horses if this card is near no 21.

No 78 The Fool

This tarot indicates that the person for whom you are read-ing the cards is not without ex-travagance and that she might indulge in unrestrained mad-ness if another favorable tarot did not correct this unpleasant omen.

Near no 57, it tells you that you are going to make a mis-

take that many people would call madness. With no 41, you will avoid it and the opposite would take place if no 27 came just afterwards.

You must not think that this tarot, whether it comes up upright or reversed, is an absolute sign that the consulting person is mad; in the company of no 20, it indicates the whims of fortune; finally, it means that the consulting person is luckier than she deserves.
