Through the mystery of the Incarnation God interrupts the history of man. This time he uses the most surprising and least predictable way to do it; he becomes one like us in the womb of Mary. By the power of the Holy Spirit God guaranteed that creation would remain redeemed and holy. Sin had already entered our lives because of the disobedience of our ancestors Adam and Eve. In a desire to reconcile the world to himself, God becomes visible and tangible among us. "And the word became flesh and dwelt among us.", Says the scripture. In a point of light, in a sacred space God becomes a human. This point was Mary. Mary becomes the mother of the word, in the first tabernacle not made of materials or precious stones but of skin, Jesus is begotten of the Father in his divinity and also communes with the Virgin Mary in his humanity. Mary becomes the Eve of the new creation that is Jesus. She opens her life to the will of God. Church tradition recognizes and celebrates Mary's active cooperation and free will in light of the mystery of redemption. Mary conceived Jesus in her faith before conceiving him in her womb. In her dialogue with her angel she asks a very proper, fair and intelligent question; "How can this be if I don't know a man?" We call this in Latin fidae cuarrens inteIIectum, faith seeking understanding. She makes an indispensable and feminine contribution to the salvation of humanity through her physical motherhood. Her son, Jesus, is the fruit of God's love for us. Jesus is the son of God, he is divinity wrapped in blankets of humanity. He becomes a man, a human being, a person like us except in sin. With her "yes" Mary becomes a model of discipleship. With no conditions, no buts, no second thoughts, she freely and consciously accepts God's plan and puts it into operation. She does not sit around enjoying the status of being the mother of God. Her first answer is yes and her second answer is to serve. Her first mission was to help her cousin Isabel, who was also expecting a child. Believing in God makes us disciples. Being a disciple means being for others. May this season of Advent open our eyes to God's plan for each and every one of us. May we serve God with the firmness and the simplicity of our mother Mary; "I am the slave of the Lord; let it be done to me according to his word."

A través del misterio de la Encarnación Dios interrumpe la historia del hombre. En esta ocasión utiliza la forma más sorprendente y menos predecible para hacerlo; se hace uno como nosotros en el seno de María. Por el poder del Espíritu Santo Dios garantizó que la creación permaneciera redimida y santa. El pecado ya había entrado en nuestras vidas por la desobediencia de nuestros ancestros Adán y Eva. María se convierte en la Eva de la nueva creación que es Jesús. Ella abre su vida a la voluntad de Dios. La tradición de la iglesia reconoce y celebra la cooperación activa y el

libre albedrío de María a la luz del misterio de la redención. María concibió a Jesús en su fe antes de concebirlo en su vientre. En su diálogo con el ángel ella hace una pregunta muy propia, justa e inteligente; "¿Cómo podrá ser esto si no conozco varón?”. A esto le llamamos en latín fidae cuarrens inteIIectum, la fe buscando entendimiento. Ella hace una contribución indispensable y femenina a la salvación de la humanidad a

través de su maternidad física. Su hijo, Jesús es el fruto del amor de Dios hacia nosotros. Jesús es el hijo de Dios, es divinidad envuelta en frazadas de humanidad. él se convierte en un hombre, en un ser

humano, en una persona como nosotros excepto en el pecado. María se convierte con su “sí” en un modelo de discipulado. Sin condiciones, ni peros, ni segundos pensamientos, con plena libertad y conscientemente ella acepta el plan de Dios y lo pone en funcionamiento. No se queda sentada disfrutando el status de ser la madre de Dios. Su primera respuesta es afirmativa y su segunda respuesta es servir. La primera misión fue ayudar a su prima Isabel quien también esperaba un hijo. El creer en Dios nos convierte en discípulos. El ser discípulo significa el ser por otros. Que este tiempo de Adviento nos abra los ojos al plan de Dios para todos y cada uno de nosotros. Que podamos servir a Dios con la firmeza y la sencillez de nuestra madre María; "Yo soy la esclava de Señor, hágase en mi según su palabra."

A Catechesis that Forms Missionary Disciples (Excerpts from Catechist’s Guide to the Directory for Catechesis by Joseph D. White, PhD)

A living faith is not simply about believing, but also sharing what we have received through our words and through our actions. Catechesis prepares the learner to be a witness of the Gospel message at home in the family, at work or school, in the parish, and in the larger community. The Catechism of the Catholic Church calls mission work “a requirement of the Church’s catholicity,” meaning that because the Church is for all humanity, we must be a welcoming people, taking Christ’s message to others (see 849-856). In fact, the Second Vatican Council called the Church “the universal sacrament of salvation” (Lumen Gentium, 48). We are the visible sign to the world that Christ welcomes all to life in him.

Taking Christ to the world is not only a collective responsibility, but also an individual one. In his encyclical letter Redemptoris Missio, Pope John Paul II called missionary activity “a matter for all Christians” (2).

The theme of mission is a thread that runs throughout the Directory for Catechesis. Here we find reference to the missionary role of the family as an agent of evangelization and catechesis (231), the importance of mission experiences for youths (251), the understanding of the pastoral care of youths as a “missionary outreach” (252), and the necessity of proposing concrete missionary exercise of charity and witness in the world as an element of catechesis with adults (262).

As catechists, we prepare others to be missionary disciples when we help them learn the language of faith so they can articulate what they believe. Equally important is our reflection with learners on practical ways to live out the message of Christ in our everyday lives.

Year End Giving to Charity

Throughout the year, we all try to be as generous as possible to help the parish pay its bills and minister to others in need in the name of Christ. We know that the parish uses our gifts as frugally as possible to proclaim the Gospel, teach the Faith, impart the grace of the sacraments,

care for the hungry and needy, counsel those who are hurting as well as couples and families and many other things. The parish must pay its workers, its utilities and insurance, diocesan bills, pay down its debt and save as much as possible for ministry. Before the year ends, we ask you to look at how much you have given and consider if you want to make an additional gift to Saint Aloysius Gonzaga Parish or one of our ministries.

La Caridad al Fin del Año

A través del año, tratamos de ser tan generosos como sea posible para ayudar a la parroquia a pagar sus deudas y ministrar a otros en necesidad en nombre de Cristo. Sabemos que la parroquia utiliza nuestros dones tan frugalmente como sea posible para proclamar el Evangelio, a enseñar la fe, impartir la gracia de los sacramentos, cuidado para los hambrientos y necesitados, aconsejar a quienes están sufriendo así como las parejas y familias y muchas otras cosas. Christmas 2020

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Each one of us carries treasured memories of joyous Christmas celebrations. This year, the Christmas we are about to celebrate will be different. Because of the pandemic and the changes at work in our society, this season will no doubt have a more somber and restrained tone. And yet the very heart of our Christmas celebration does not change and, indeed, may be more important than ever.

To celebrate the birth of Jesus summons us to remember that the Word became flesh. In Jesus, God became one with us in all things but sin. In Jesus, God understands the joy and grief of our human condition from the inside. The great blessing of Christmas is Jesus, Emmanuel, God-with-us—the blessed assurance that God walks with us on our joyful and challenging life journey.

In his recent encyclical, Fratelli tutti, Pope Francis reminds us that we are all sisters and brothers to each other, ultimately linked together in Jesus Christ who is Son of God and Son of Mary. As brothers and sisters, let us hold each other in the mystery of the Word made flesh. Let us pray for each other. I will certainly remember you, and I ask you to remember me. And although this may be a different kind of Christmas, it may also be one of the most meaningful.

God bless you and your loved ones and keep you safe in his providential love.

Carta de Navidad 2020

Estimadas hermanas y hermanos en Cristo:

Cada uno de nosotros atesora recuerdos de celebraciones de Navidad alegres. Este año, la Navidad que estamos a punto de celebrar será diferente. Debido a la pandemia y los cambios que se están produciendo en nuestra sociedad, esta temporada sin duda tendrá un tono más sombrío y restringido. Y sin embargo, el corazón mismo de nuestra celebración de Navidad no cambia y, de hecho, es quizá más importante que nunca.

Celebrar el nacimiento de Jesús nos convoca a recordar que la Palabra se hizo carne. En Jesús, Dios se hizo uno con nosotros en todas las cosas menos el pecado. En Jesús, Dios entiende la alegría y dolor de nuestra condición humana desde adentro. La gran bendición de la Navidad es Jesús, Emmanuel, Dios con nosotros: la seguridad bendita de que Dios camina con nosotros en nuestra alegre y desafiante travesía de vida.

Como hermanos y hermanas, abracémonos unos a otros en el misterio de la Palabra hecha carne. Oremos unos por otros. Ciertamente los recordaré y les pido que me recuerden a mí. Y aunque este puede ser un tipo de Navidad diferente, también puede ser una de las más significativas. Dios los bendiga a ustedes y a sus seres queridos y los mantenga seguros en su amor providencial.

The Virtual Parish Giving Tree

The holidays are the perfect time to thank God for the good things we have in life. One of the best ways of being thankful is to use our blessings to help those in need. As of today, Sunday, November 29, St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish will have a virtual “Giving Tree” on Facebook and in our bulletin with a list of gift suggestions for our parish, our programs, our volunteers and for the needs of the students attending St. Aloysius Gonzaga High School in Kenya. Parishioners will be able to look at the list and purchase or donate for the items on the list. Please bring the donations and/or gift cards with you to mass and place the envelope marked with the donation information in the collection. Item donations can be brought to the parish office, please make sure to call ahead so we can be there to accept it. All donations and items must be turned in by this Wednesday, December 23.
