From the Pastor’s Desk… Most cultures and religions have the notion or the theological concept of the “Eschaton”. The idea of the “Eschaton” or “the end of times” sustains that at the end of times, as we know them, Jesus will return in glory to present all creation to the Father and God in all his wisdom and power will decide what to do with it. The good ones will inherit the heavenly kingdom and those who have rejected God in all its manifestations have also rejected His salvation. The gospel takes the image of the farmer sowing good seed and of his enemy planting weeds, which are bad for the crops, and how wheat and weeds are allowed to grow together until harvest time. But life is more complicated than drawing a clear-cut line between wheat and weeds, saints and sinners. We have weaknesses, temptations, fallings, and areas to grow. We all have to deal with aspects in our lives where wild weeds are growing whether around us or in us. The Church is not an exclusive reality or a club for the virtuous. The Church exists because sinners exist. It is a way, a vehicle, and an instrument for sinners who are looking for salvation.

The farmer, God, has allowed the weeds and the wheat to grow together. In God’s mind the possibility of change,

improvement and conversion is real. The good farmer allows us the chance for growth. Weeds can change into wheat if it grows next to good fruit. God so much loved us, His creation, that He

allows our free will to choose between a heavenly-reality or settle for less.

Now, the patience and tolerance that God has exercised with us must be extended to others. We are not called to be judges of others. We are called to be righteous not self-righteous. The self-righteous only have one God to adore and one temple to attend, themselves. The emphasis of this gospel is on exercising patience and a sense of deep wisdom. The scriptures say, “Let them grow together until harvest”. We must display that tolerance until God makes the call, His great gathering, on judgment day. Playing judge and playing God is very foolish and risky business. But this is not about being non-chalant about sin. This is not about being wishy-washy about sin and saying, “Oh well, after all is just a little case of adultery”. Sin is sin…but sinners are human beings, subject to redemption, recipients of mercy and vessels for conversion. In the meantime, as members of the body of Christ, we must share in the task of revealing God’s patience by forgiving, to the best of our abilities, others and as we help our neighbor to grow as a member of God’s kingdom. We must remember the good news that the kingdom of God is for all. It is never too late to become wheat, to be food for others, to be of a good seed for others. It is never too late for a sinner to turn back to God and to be accepted. In this world weeds can never become wheat but by the power of God a sinner can become a saint. May we at the hour of the final judgment be able to show God how we reject sin and how we never stop loving the sinner. By the fruits of our harvest God shall know us.

Del Escritorio del Párroco… La mayoría de las culturas y religiones tienen la noción o el concepto teológico de “Eschaton”. La idea del “Eschaton” o “el final de los tiempos” sostiene que al final de la historia, como la conocemos, Jesús regresará en Gloria a presentarle la creación a Dios Padre y Él en toda su sabiduría y poder decidirá qué hacer con la misma. Los buenos heredarán el reino celestial y aquellos que rechazaron a Dios en todas sus obras también serán rechazados por Su salvación. El evangelio toma la imagen de un sembrador echando la buena semilla y de su enemigo sembrando cizañas y como el trigo y la cizaña crecen juntas hasta la época de la cosecha. Pero la vida es más complicada que simplemente colocar

una línea entre el trigo y la cizaña, santos y pecadores. Tenemos debilidades, tentaciones, fallos y áreas de crecimiento. Todos tenemos que trabajar con aspectos en nuestras vidas donde la cizaña está creciendo ya sea alrededor nuestro o inclusive dentro de nosotros. La iglesia no es una realidad exclusiva ni un club para los virtuosos. La iglesia existe porque pecadores existen. Es un camino, un vehículo y un instrumento para los pecadores que están buscando la salvación. El sembrador, Dios, permite que la cizaña y el trigo crezcan juntas. En la mente de Dios la posibilidad de cambio, de mejoría, y de conversión es real. El buen sembrador les da una oportunidad para su crecimiento. La cizaña puede cambiar a trigo si crece alrededor del buen fruto. Dios nos ama tanto, su creación, que nos permite por nuestro libre albedrío el elegir entre la realidad del Cielo o conformarnos con menos. Ahora bien, la paciencia y la tolerancia de Dios tiene que ejercitarse y extenderse a los demás. No estamos llamados a ser jueces de otros. Estamos llamados a ser virtuosos pero no beatos. El beato solamente tiene un Dios para adorar y un Templo que atender, a sí mismo. El énfasis del evangelio es el ejercitar paciencia y un sentido de sabiduría. La escritura dice, “Permitan que crezcan juntas hasta la cosecha”. Debemos de ejercitar la misma tolerancia hasta que Dios nos llame en su gran reunión, en el día del juicio. El jugar a ser juez y a ser Dios es un asunto arriesgozo e imprudente. Pero igualmente no podemos ser superficiales concerniente al pecado. No podemos tener una actitud relativista acerca del pecado y decir, “Bueno, después de todo es un pequeño caso de adulterio”. El pecado es pecado...pero los pecadores son seres humanos, sujetos a la redención, recipientes de misericordia y sujetos para la conversión. Mientras, como miembros del cuerpo de Cristo, tenemos que compartir la tarea de revelar la paciencia de Dios perdonando, de la mayor manera posible, a los demás y ayudar a nuestro prójimo a crecer como miembro del reino de Dios. Debemos recordar la buena nueva de que el reino de Dios es para todos. Nunca es tarde para convertirnos en trigo, el ser alimento para los demás, para ser buena semilla para los demás. Nunca es tarde para un pecador el regresar a Dios y el ser aceptado. En este mundo la cizaña nunca se puede convertir en trigo pero con el poder de Dios un pecador se puede convertir en un santo. Que a la hora del juicio final podamos demostrarle a Dios como rechazamos el pecado y como nunca dejamos de amar al pecador. Por los frutos de la cosecha Dios sabrá quienes somos.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO The Lord's Peace be with you! The parables contained in our Gospel reading for this Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time are intended to teach us of the nature of God and His Kingdom. Unlike other fearful gods, our God has always gone to great lengths to show His tender mercy toward those who have been called to adoption into His Divine Presence. God remains ever so faithful despite our many weaknesses, and Wills to strengthen us through His Spirit. Our God is one of true justice in that; we are treated not according to our weakness but according to His faithfulness. The Spirit of God leads us to a proper understanding of God’s tenderness whenever we open our hearts to allow His Truths to possess us. In order for God to do His work in us we must first be receptive to letting Him fill us with His Grace. When we freely chose to do so the Spirit of God will come to our aid and bring our will into alignment with God’s Holy Will, thus better enabling us to become the saints we were created to be. ¡La Paz del Señor esté con ustedes! El propósito de las parábolas contenidas en nuestro Evangelio este Decimosexto Domingo Ordinario es de enseñarnos sobre la naturaleza de Dios y Su Reino. A diferencia de otros dioses temibles, nuestro Dios siempre nos ha revelado Su tierna misericordia por aquellos que han sido llamados hacia la adopción en Su Divina Presencia. Dios permanece sumamente fiel a pesar de las tantas debilidades que poseemos, y es Su Voluntad fortalecernos por medio de Su Espíritu. Nuestro Dios es además verdaderamente justo, puesto que no nos trata según nuestras debilidades sino según Su fidelidad. Cuando estamos dispuestos a abrirnos a Dios y permitirle poseer nuestro corazón el Espíritu de Dios nos conduce hacia el conocimiento pleno de Su ternura. Dios nos pide que primero seamos receptivos para poder llenarnos con Su Gracia. Cuando libremente elegimos recibirlo el Espíritu de Dios ayudará en alinear nuestra voluntad a la Santa Voluntad de Dios, y así permitir que nos convirtamos en los santos por quienes fuimos creados. ¡Qué Dios les bendiga! All children in first grade and over who are not enrolled in a Catholic School should be attending CCD. Please bring your child's baptismal certificate and a $20 deposit, and tell others as well of this great opportunity. Catholic Charities 20th Anniversary Monsignor Michael Boland Golf Invitational is Wednesday, July 26, at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont. The day will kick off with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Compete with nearly 400 fellow golfers for prizes and bragging rights.
