This year, Honda has gone from strength to strength and made a remarkable comeback since the events last year. As for me, having moved on to the Sales Division in April this year, I am more than willing to contribute my years of experience as Head of Spare Parts and work hard with my team to re-establish our sales momentum.

I believe that as long as we hold ourselves faithful to the Honda Way, we will be able to strive towards achieving our sales target of 40,500 units this year and at the same time reaffirm our customers’ satisfaction and belief in Honda. Furthermore, Honda Malaysia will also be expanding its Malacca plant with the construction of the new No.2 Line, scheduled to be in full operation by the fourth quarter of 2013.

Besides aiming to achieve top fuel efficiency for Honda vehicles with the Earth Dreams Technology, Honda is also embarking on a revolutionary project known as Honda Smart Home System (HSHS) in Saitama, Japan to reduce household CO2 emissions to half of year 2000 level by 2015.

This ingenious energy management system features key Honda-developed energy production technologies to provide heat and electricity for the home while producing power for the use of electromotive mobility. On top of that, it is also designed for a secure supply of energy and mobility in the event of a disaster. Having led the HSHS project with Saitama as part of a sustainable living collaboration known as E-KIZUNA Project in May 2011, Honda chalked another milestone in April 2012 when the first house built for demonstrative testing was unveiled. The technologies installed shed more light to how we can look forward to a low carbon society in the near future.

“i love to visit foreign places so i always bring my camera wherever i go.” Soo Mun Wai

It was evident that Soo Mun Wai is a down-to-earth individual with a passion for knowledge from the moment she started sharing her interests and career aspirations. Although she professes to lead a simple life, Mun Wai has a strongly independent streak that has led her down a path in pharmacy apart from the comforts of home and developed a fascination for photography during her course of study.

Having transplanted herself from Penang to Johor for the sake of pursuing her pharmaceutical career, Mun Wai’s passion for photography was born out of her love of capturing the beauty in the places she travelled. When she has the chance to travel abroad, she prefers to visit city destinations for their vibrant sights and sounds and immerses herself in their exotic cultures. As she has travelled to China, Hong Kong and Thailand in Asia not long ago, she hopes to go further and visit Europe one day with her trusty Nikon digital SLR camera. “I love to visit foreign places so I always bring my camera wherever I go,” she says. “In addition to that, I have a Speedlight flash unit, an 18 – 55mm zoom lens and a few handy lens filters to enhance my snapshots, but it can be very heavy to carry all those equipment around for a girl!”

Having left her hometown in Penang, Mun Wai has lived in Johor apart from her family for five years. It was a long and arduous challenge of obtaining her qualification and overcoming her fears while living alone in a foreign state. After studying at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) for four years, the plucky lass then took up a one-year internship and three years of service at a government hospital before venturing into community pharmacy in Johor.

With years of experience in helping patients to maintain and improve their health, the USM graduate is keen to establish her very own pharmacy one day. “There is still a strong demand for pharmacies in Johor, so I would like to reach out to the community with a pharmacy of my own and use my knowledge to provide for the people,” she says with a hearty laugh. With her humble determination, we are confident that this young woman will go places in life.

Although she picked up photography two years ago, she confesses that she still has plenty to learn. With her elder brother as her mentor, she constantly refines her skills by taking plenty of pictures and seeking her brother’s advice, from basic photography know-hows such as controlling the shutter speed and aperture to composing her shots for the perfect picture.

When she is not taking pictures, the 29-year-old independent lass is a community pharmacist in Johor who delights in helping patients and provide them with prescriptive medication. “When a customer is interested in improving their health and diet or suffers from minor afflictions such as coughs and colds, they will drop by for health supplements or over-the-counter medicines and seek my advice on the medications they’ll be using, its potential side effects and its dosage. Other times, I also receive customers with chronic illnesses who visit me for prescriptive medication,” she explains.

The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of the No.2 Line at Honda Malaysia’s Pegoh Plant in Malacca, marked the expansion of the factory to increase its total production capacity.

Honda Malaysia will be investing RM350 million on its building, equipment and facilities of the new factory expansion. The new No.2 Line is scheduled to begin operations by the fourth quarter of 2013 and will be producing up to 100,000 units annually. When both production lines are running simultaneously, Honda Malaysia will be able to produce up to 800 vehicles per day – double of its current output.

Hybrid vehicles will be produced at its No.1 Line while the new No.2 Line is specially built to increase Honda’s ability to meet the Malaysian market demand for compact vehicles. Both lines will have the capability to produce multiple models and to quickly and efficiently shift production as required. Staying true to Honda’s “Green Factory” concept, the No.2 line will continue to adopt a more efficient and environmentally-friendly manufacturing operation.

On its completion, the expanded factory will occupy a total space of 8.48 million square metres – almost double the 4.32 million square metres of its current size, to facilitate its state-of-the-art technology, along with other investments. Mr. Ueno adds that this investment will create more job opportunities for Malaysians, with an expected employment of 700 new associates.

Previously located on Jalan 222, Petaling Jaya, Tenaga Setia Resources have since re-established itself in a bigger and more spacious environment with the incorporation of a new Body and Paint Centre in Seksyen 51 early this year.

The Body and Paint Centre is equipped with the latest range of collision repair equipment to cater for all levels of collision damage, while its Service Technicians place high importance on implementing the correct repair methods according to Honda’s specifications, providing Honda owners peace of mind with its top-notch restoration services.

“Our new 3S centre is the embodiment of our long-held ambition to heighten our customers’ experience in sales and after-sales. That is why a Body and Paint Centre was integrated into our new service centre – to return a vehicle to a road-worthy condition for the safety of our customers,” Service Manager Mr Liew Kok Kin shares.

On top of that, the relocated service centre now contains a bigger showroom area and a cosier customer lounge. Upon glancing beyond its glass windows and overlooking the service area, General Manager Ms. Koh Tang Kim also pointed out that compared to its previous 8-bay setup, the new premise comfortably houses 26 working bays to accommodate the growing after-sales demand.

Honda puts its expertise in robotics research and technology to good use again with its latest personal mobility device. The UNI-CUB is an evolution from the groundbreaking U3-X first announced in 2009. This compact mobility device was designed with comfort in mind, giving the user vast freedom of movement identical to that of walking.

The all new UNI-CUB is packed with more features including Honda’s proprietary balance control technology, a result from Honda’s research in humanoid robots such as ASIMO and the Walking Assist device. The balance control technology allows the rider to easily control the wheels of the UNI-CUB, similar to a person maintaining their balance. This feature allows the rider to move in harmony with other people such as moving side by side or holding hands.

Back then, the U3-X allowed the rider to freely move forward, backward, side-to-side or diagonally to cruise their way through other pedestrians by simply shifting his or her body weight. With the UNI-CUB, riders can now move rotationally in addition to these movements.

The UNI-CUB sports two-wheel configuration with minimal wheelbase. The front wheel of the UNI-CUB features Honda Omni Traction Drive System, the world’s first omni-directional driving wheel system while the rear wheel moves alongside for smoother turnings. With these, the UNI-CUB has wider movements compared to its predecessor, making quick and nimble movements possible.

The compact saddle-style packaging makes the UNI-CUB easy to mount and makes it easy for the rider’s legs to reach the floor, while maintaining a similar height to other pedestrians. Also, the UNI-CUB’s ability to climb gradients in barrier-free indoor environments is further enhanced by the improved wheel design and high-precision drive and balance control.

Apart from the weight shift control which is managed by an incline sensor, a touch panel control allows more options – even via smartphones and other devices.

This state-of-the-art vehicle further proves that Honda holds true to its philosophy, Joy of Creating – fusing together high technology with daily human functions.
