The Akanksha Foundation
Significant accounting policies and Notes to account for the period ended 31.3.2015
(A) Significant accounting policies
1 Basis of preparation of financial statements
The balance sheet, receipt and payment and income and expenditure accounts are prepared under the historical cost convention and on the accrual basis of accounting. In the absence of any authoritatively established accounting principles for the specialised aspects related to charitable trusts which do not carry out any commercial activity, these statements have been prepared in accordance with the significant accounting policies as described below.
2 Use of estimates
The preparation of the financial statements in conformity with the significant accounting policies requires that the Trustees of the Trust (Trustees') make estimates and assumptions that affect the reported amounts of income and expenditure for the year and reported balances of assets and liabilities. Actual results could differ from those estimates. Any revision to accounting estimates is recognised prospectively in current and future periods. All amounts are stated in. Indian rupees, except otherwise stated.
3 Fixed Assets
Fixed assets are stated at cost of acquisition or construction, less accumulated depreciation. The cost of fixed assets includes the purchase cost of fixed assets and any other directly attributable costs of bringing the assets to their working condition for their intended use.
4 Depreciation
Depreciation is charged on Fixed Assets on Written Down Value basis at the rates specified by the The Income Tax Act, 1961. Fixed assets whose original cost is less than Rs.5000 arc fully depreciated.
5 Investments
Investments are stated at cost. Any diminution, in the value of the investment, other than temporary in nature, is provided in books of accounts. The market value as on the balance sheet date is disclosed.
6 Revenue Recognition
Donation and Grants received donation / grants received for under advance donation/grant has been received.
in cheques are recognised as income on the basis of date of deposit. In case of the following year, the same has been considered as liability and accounted for and will be considered as income on the year for which such donation/grant
Donation and Grants received in cash are accounted on the of date of receipt.
Donation and Grants received through direct credit or online are accounted on the date of realisation.
Donations made with a specific direction that they shall form part of the corpus of the Trust arc classified as corpus and are directly reflected as corpus (trust fund) receipts in the balance sheet.
Interest on deployment of funds is recognised using the time-proportion method, based on underlying interest rates.
Income tax
The Trust is registered under Section 12A of the Income tax Act, 1961 (`the Act'). Under the provisions of the of the Trust is exempted from tax, subject to the compliance of specific terms and co the Act.
-o
8 The salary expenses for the financials year 2014-15, have been recorded & paid from the books maintained under local. However corresponding payment of provident fund amounting to Rs.11,17,562/- has been paid from the FCRA books of account.
Consequently, the liabilities for above statutory dues amounting to Rs. 53,000/- pretaining to March 2014 have been written off in the FCRA books & written back in the local books, since there is a restriction on transfer of Local funds to FCRA funds.
9 TDS receivable amounting to Rs 4,78,650 has been written off in FCRA books since the refund for said IDS is going to be received in Local books. An equal amount of Rs 4,78,650 has, therefore, been created in the • local books to give effect of this transfer.
10 The utilisation of funds in the FCRA account is based on fund availability and requirements
