Check your answers. A What happens in Book 1? B In Book 1… Virgil Book 1 Aeneas and the Trojan ships leave Troy, but the goddess Juno sends a storm which damages the ships. Aeneas lands in Africa, near the city of Carthage. He meets Dido, the queen of Carthage. Book 2 Aeneas tells Dido the story of the destruction of Troy. He describes his escape from the city with his father, Anchises, and the loss of his wife, Creusa. Book 3 Aeneas’s story continues. He describes his journey to find a new city in the west. The gods of Troy tell him that he must go to Italy. His story finishes with the death of his father. Book 4 Dido falls in love with Aeneas. Aeneas cannot return her love because he must follow his destiny. When he leaves with the Trojan ships, Dido prophesies eternal hate between Carthage and the descendants of the Trojans. She then commits suicide. Book 5 The Trojans stop in Sicily. Here they have funeral games to remember the one year anniversary of the death of Anchises. Book 6 The Trojans land in Cumae in the province of Campania. Aeneas meets the Sibyl, a priestess. She tells him to enter the Underworld, the realm of the dead, where he meets people from his past. Virgil

Book 1 Aeneas and the Trojan ships leave Troy, but the goddess Juno sends a storm which damages the ships. Aeneas lands in Africa, near the city of Carthage. He meets Dido, the queen of Carthage.

Book 2 Aeneas tells Dido the story of the destruction of Troy. He describes his escape from the city with his father, Anchises, and the loss of his wife, Creusa.
