Our theatre trip in 2019 is to the Lyceum Theatre for All Shook Up, which is set to the hits of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. The Mystery Trip will take you out of this world, and you can experience an unforgettable holiday trip at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis; for their Christmas at the Cathedral concert followed by the Way of Lights display at Our Lady of the Snows.
You’ll have fun on the one night trip in March as we follow historic sections of Route 66 and spend the night at Downstream Casino. This trip is fittingly named Get Your Kicks and Moola Too! In July, we’re headed to Oklahoma to visit Ree Drummond’s Pioneer Woman Mercantile in Pawhuska and see how Frank Phillips started his oil empire in Bartlesville. Check out A Pioneer Woman and Oil Baron Road Trip, a great three day getaway to northeast Oklahoma!
On A Genesis Journey to Indiana and Kentucky you will experience the miraculous story of Creation. Starting at the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky, you’ll find stunning exhibits and visuals with an emphasis on Biblical history. At the Ark Encounter, in Williamstown, Kentucky you will marvel at the 510 foot long and 85 foot wide amazing recreation of Noah’s Ark. Check out the trip description and you’ll find other sites we’re visiting on this customized tour!
In October 2019 join us for our New England Fall Foliage tour. We will stay all 5 nights at the luxurious White Mountain Hotel & Resort. This very special fall foliage tour takes you to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, countryside of Vermont and the Coast of Maine during peak foliage time!
If you want to escape Missouri’s winter, cabins are still available on the Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America for the Hawaiian Islands Cruise-Tour. This vacation opportunity of a lifetime takes you to four of the most beautiful and enchanting islands of Hawaii. I know we’re not yet to Halloween, much less Thanksgiving, but nevertheless some people are already beginning their Christmas shopping. (This does not include me – I must sadly admit to occasionally shopping on Christmas Eve).
So why am I writing about Christmas in an October newsletter? Well I would like to ask a favor of you. I would ask that when you shop, you buy from our local merchants. These small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities. They support our schools and churches, donate to local causes, volunteer their time and talents. They provide local employment opportunities, giving our young people the choice of staying close to home instead of migrating to metropolitan areas in search of a job.
While my memory is not what it used to be, I cannot ever recall seeing Amazon’s name, or that of any on line retailer, on any thank you ads in our local paper for buying livestock at the local fair or for helping sponsor a local event or fundraiser. Nor have I seen them listed on any t-shirt for sponsoring a local sports team, scout troop or special event. They provide no local employment, and in fact their business model is to increase their market share by eliminating as many small competitors as possible. Clearly, the more successful these on line retailers are in convincing people to use their services, the quicker will be the demise of our friendly small town retailers.
So whether it be shoes, furniture, toys, clothing, jewelry, sporting goods or any other gift items that are available locally, I would urge you to shop your local stores. It’s a great way to thank them for all they have done in the past, and the only way to ensure that they will be able to continue to support your local community in the future.
Our best to all of you from all of us here at Legends Bank, and thanks for choosing us, as one of your local businesses, for your financial needs.

A Good German Day in St. Louis April 24, 2019St. Louis is called the “Gateway to the West” and is home to two big rivers, breweries, baseball fans and lots of Germans! In the early 1800’s German immigration began as a trickle into Missouri and the St. Louis area and then, like the mighty Mississippi, there was a flood of German immigrants into the area. In 1833 there were eighteen German families in St. Louis, by the 1880’s one St. Louisan in four claimed some ethnicity; Germans accounted for slightly more than half. They established their own neighborhoods, churches, schools and businesses. They were industrious, steady and shaped the culture of St. Louis and the surrounding area. Join us as we spend the day with Linda Koenig, one of our favorite St. Louis guides, touring German sites in St. Louis. You will see German sculptures, Concordia Seminary, St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (designed in the German-American Gothic style), fine early stone mid-1800’ German street houses, and enjoy a delicious German meal at Grbic Restaurant.
