A NOTE FROM OUR PASTOR

Feast of the Epiphany �

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, the feast of the Epiphany

was prophesized by Isaiah over 700 years before the birth of

Christ in which, “The “light has come, the glory of the Lord

shines upon them.” With this manifestation, “Caravans of camels

shall fill you,�

dromedaries from Midian and Ephah; all from Sheba shall come

bearing gold and frankincense and proclaiming the praises of the

LORD.” Jesus’ birth is the light that emerges from darkness.

He is the eternal gifts of joy, peace, and hope. We are all called

to live in the light of Christ. �

� The Feast of Epiphany emphasizes the incarnation of God in

the flesh as part of salvation history. It is also fulfillment of the

promise in Genesis 3:15, the first Gospel or Protoevangelium.

This promise was made by God to save us from ourselves. Little

did the Israelites know, or could they ever imagine, how God’s

providence would choose a lowly handmaid to be the vessel of

His entrance into human history. God’s ways are not limited by

human constraints. In His infinite wisdom He fills our hearts

with the wonder of His care for us. In his care for Jesus, Mary and Joseph, God the Father sent the

Three Wise Men (Magi) bearing gifts to pay Jesus homage. The Magi’s journey was long and �

arduous through the vast dessert following the star that led them to Christ. Are we just as �

determined as the Magi to follow the path that leads us to Christ? �

Are we prepared to accept the hardships and �

unknown that comes with being a disciple of Jesus? What is our commitment level to follow Christ

in this difficult time in our world? Just as Mary trusted God explicitly and without reserve, so

should we.�

� This weekend’s readings resound today in one joyful chorus through the voices of the prophet

Isaiah, the Apostle Paul, and The Magi, Balthazar, Caspar, and Melchior. They remind us that �

Emmanuel, God with us, has come to dispel the darkness of sin and death. In Him, we now have the

chance to be with Him forever. The star of Bethlehem which led The Magi to Christ, comes to rest

in our hearts to lead others to Christ. If the light is within us, are we willing to share that light with

others through our good words and deeds? �

� The Feast of the Epiphany celebrates the 3 mysteries of Christ’s life together:�

1�� The star that led the Magi to the crib. �

2�� The miraculous wine at the marriage feast of

Cana.�

3�� The baptism of Jesus in the Jordan.�

God’s incarnation allows us to see and touch God

made visible. He humbles Himself and all who

come before Him in humility will be made great.

The Magi offered God, incense, to the man they �

offered myrrh, and to the King, they offered gold.

What do we offer to God as we come to Him to �

receive Him in the Eucharist? I hope that that this

Christmas season continues to affirm the good work

you do for God, inspires you to do better, or �

challenges you to change your way and return to

God. Have a wonderful and blessed New Year.�
