CenterPoint Academy Making A Dramatic Difference

The CenterPoint Academy motto is “You Belong Here,” and nobody knows thatbetter than the 587 people, ages 3-18, that we train in performing arts. Whatwe really teach them, however, is how to be the awesomest version of themselves.While the performing arts training we offer is top-notch, taught by the bestlocal working artists, the end result for the vast majority of our students isn’t theBroadway stage.

Instead, we use the arts to teach lessons that matter in any facet of life - confidence,discipline, leadership, self-esteem, teamwork, friendship, and creativity. Ourstudents learn these universally-relevant skills and become assets wherever they go– at school, at work, at church and at home.

The Academy provides unique performance opportunities to these students on theCenterPoint Theatre stages, performing for more than 15,000 people per year, inover 125 performances of more than a dozen different shows.

Announcing Academy At Home

We’re excited to announce CenterPoint Academy at Home, our flexible, home-based musical theatre classes!

Academy at Home offers the absolute same quality experience our 600 students from 400 families experience every single week, but provided flexibly, with much of the experience based at home.

Academy at Home is hands-on, active learning where students participate in classes and collaborations each week, interact with instructors and classmates, focus on skill development and personal improvement, prepare and perform material that they select in consultation with instructors, and learn singing, acting, dancing, technical theatre, and all of the other great interpersonal skills that come along with musical theatre training.

What an awesome time to be alive!

It’s been challenging and maddening and exciting and frustrating and terrifying and so rewarding finding the path for CenterPoint Academy during times like these, and we feel so fortunate to finally present The Addams Family to you.

And while this production will be different for you and different for the eight casts of fantastic young people who will perform for you, we’re sure you’re going to have a wonderful time. This is a great show, and it’s full of great kids. Some of the best around, really.

So, while circumstances dictate a performance where we keep actors apart, where we don’t have much blocking and choreography, and where some of the elements you’re used to seeing in theatre are a bit different, we’re still feeling so lucky to have you experience it, and to have the kids perform it.

We’ve all learned to cherish the Academy and our students even more, because we’ve felt what it’s like not to have it. What these kids and the incredible Academy and CenterPoint staff have been able to pull together in a matter of weeks is astonishing.

I couldn’t be more proud or feel more blessed to have people such as all of these in my life.

Let’s live before we die, let’s laugh before we cry, let’s hold each other tight, and dance!

The Academy Fan Club is our theatre guild. It’s a group of grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and other Academy fans. It’s designed to take the incredible spirit of volunteerism and support here and to organize it in a more formal, effective way. The Fan Club supports the Academy with teaching, feeding, building, breaking down, costuming, propping, teching, fundraising, and other cool things that make the Academy awesome.

Most of these Fan Club opportunities don’t take much time, but they make a real difference. You can see more about the Fan Club here:

Grandparents are some of our biggest fans, and lots of our interest in even forming the Fan Club was to involve the grands. We want to include as many of them as possible.
