Geography Teaching Today Website

• “The main portal for geography teachers”• New KS3 resources – very successful ! • CPD materials• Extension of GA handbooks• Averaged around 1000 visitor sessions a day over last 12 months.

Young People’s Geographies• Now in its 3rd year.• A ‘conversation’ which involves students in designing the curriculum – schools from Nottingham, Norfolk & London• Next phase to extend to Sheffield and the North East

“Making Geography Happen”• A new project which will follow groups of students to explore how geographical understanding develops• Working with teachers to explore the progression that occurs between key stages, and how teachers can ensure that work exceeds expectations

Enhancing local networksSecondary Networks

• Making the most of the contacts made in first phase to ‘follow-up’• Introducing virtual / social-networking to engage & support teachers• GA Ning and NQT Ning launched Sept 08 – also plans for more ‘virtual’ conferences.• Tapping in to the ‘social web’

Ambassadors• RGS-IBG organised scheme• Undergraduates visit schools to run workshops and advise on courses and careers• Over 900 ambassador visits, and over 400 schools visited• Very positive feedback from schools involved

Chartered Geographer• Professional recognition for teachers and those involved in geographical education e.g. GIS professionals • Linked to CPD: status dependent on continued internal/external CPD points being earned
