What benefits do music and singing bring to the curriculum?
Some ideas for using singing to enhance teaching in all subjects
YOUR ideas for incorporating music in lessons How to compose a relevant song to aid
teaching
Spoken voice – boom chicka boom, rock you, AEIOU (alters dynamics, style, speed)
Singing voice – ABC, Shalom, Sin je (simple, few words, focus on pitch, tone and togetherness)
Body position – midline, screw up and release, up and down (body control/position)
Breathing – count, blow, pant, control, hold (oxygen, control of breathing and focus)
Bodies – stretch, do as I do, Bonnie, rhythm (blood flow, oxygen, enjoyment and focus)

It has to mean something to the children Should link to a theme, topic or concept Different languages or cultures Go with pupil music interests Suitable for age group and skills Various genres and styles Use as a tool to deliver your other
curriculum aims, not focus on music skills Catchy, yet simple!
