the
story
An additional 70 million pursue vocational training.
Each year, more than 15 million people graduate from colleges and universities worldwide.
They hope to be rewarded with gainful employment.
But a high percentage of them do not find jobs.
Even when they find jobs, the jobs are often not commensurate with their skills.

In India, 80% of all graduates are still unemployed six months after finishing college.

This is despite many unfulfilled job positions across the globe.

In the U.S., 5 million jobs are unfilled!
Problem!
Despite open jobs!
Despite the glut of graduates, companies have difficulty finding suitable candidates.
Employable candidates from colleges outside the elite ranks experience great difficulty finding jobs.
Congratulations! You just found a job!
*Employable candidates: Candidates who possess the skills required for a given job.
Graduates from non-elite colleges who have similar skills as graduates from elite colleges have a 24% less chance
of finding a job.

On average, despite possessing a similar skill-set, a graduate from a
non-elite institution earns only 80¢
for every $1 earned by a graduate from an elite
institution.
Studies in the U.S. and Israel have shown that it takes 7-10 years to equalize such discrepancies in salary.

Also companies consider high school and college GPA when making hiring decisions.
68% of companies weigh GPA heavily when screening candidates.

28.3% of employable graduates are eliminated from the hiring process due to GPA-based criteria.
And then there are more problems…
Educational institutions do not know what employers are looking for in graduates
Source: McKinsey Survey
Graduates lack key employability skills:• 51% of engineering graduates do not qualify for software jobs
because they lack soft skills.• 56.5% do not qualify because they lack technical knowledge.
Source: National Employability Report 2014
Due to a similar lack of hard and soft skills, only 15.88% of graduates qualify for jobs in sales. For
hospitality industry roles the figure is 25%.

To sum it…
Problem- Mismatch
Reason
Educated jobseekers cannotfind jobs
Or, they are underemployed
Companies cannot fill openpositions
Companies overlook many employable candidates.
Educated candidates lack employability skills .
How do we solve these problems?
In 2008, we built a
standardized test for hiring: AMCAT
AMCAT is a strategy and assessment tool for jobseekers. It measures employability skills and provides a
personalized roadmap for improvement and success.
Jobseekers use AMCAT to highlight their skills and present their best face to employers.
Source: National Employability Report 2014
Now, a million jobseekers take AMCAT each year and 2000+ companies use AMCAT credentials in hiring.
We wanted to know what impact, if any, did
we have?
So, we analyzed the 100,000+ job matches facilitated by AMCAT in
last two years.
Source: National Employability Report 2014
We found that 79% of jobseekers placed via AMCAT came from non-elite colleges, compared to 58% of
placements in the open labor market.
Each of these graduates possessed skills comparable to graduates from elite institutions. AMCAT revealed the
hidden employable candidates.

Also, via AMCAT, small companies got access to graduates from elite institutions: 27% of new hires, compared to 16%
from the open market.

SMEs often cannot attract talent from elite colleges because they lack resources.

Also, 22% of AMCAT hires had lower GPAs than what companies generally preferred.

Furthermore, 150,000+ AMCAT alumni have put their credentials on their LinkedIn profiles.
66% of these graduates are from non-elite colleges.Profiles with credentials have six times more views than others.
We ran a regression on AMCAT job offers : Salaries for AMCAT hires were influenced by AMCAT scores only.

Graduates from elite and non-elite colleges with similar AMCAT scores received similar salaries. Perfect match!

Thus we brought the disenchanted back to the labor market through a championship of merit.
But did we help them gain a better understanding of their skills gap?
Students received a feedback report that identified their skills gap for different jobs and presented ways to mitigate them.
