Apps and internet connectivity areappealing features to consumers Hot email topics include moving to the cloud andmobile email growing exponentially The internet continues to fuse together thephysical and digital world Previous domination in the social world oncecontrolled by MySpace and Facebook, nowgiving way to other niche social applicationssuch as Twitter and Pinterest Video and digital content growing ; Advertising,Real-time marketing, and social TV. Video in thecloud is also gaining momentum. 3. Types of CommunicationTechnology Internet Email Social Networking Cell Phones Video 4. Theories and Concepts Rogers Diffusion of Innovations Social Information Processing Theory Uses and Gratifications Theory Media System Dependency Theory Theory of the Long Tail 5. Rogers-Diffusion of InnovationThis theory aims at explaining how, why, and the rate at which newtechnologies or concepts spreadthroughout a group, system, orculture. 6. How far and how fast can thesetechnologies spread? Still in the midst of technological boom Mobile will dominate Tablets and interactive keyboards willslowly replace bulky desktops. Mobile phones will dictate your dayfrom the time you wake up until the timeyou go to sleep. From the alarm on themobile device to the schedule of yourday to what you eat at night, yourmobile phone may be the medium thatserves all those purposes. 7. Eventually, certain technologies andthe increased rate of adoption willbegin to slow as the number ofdevices rapidly catches up to thenumber of citizens that have accessto them. 8. SocialInformationProcessingTheoryThis theory explains the naturebehind people usinginformation, often bycomputer or media, indeveloping personalrelationships with others. 9. Online Dating Cut to the punch line! These tools will only continue to grow inpopularity given the nature of quick interactionand personalized networking trends. It will be easier to find Mr. or Mrs. Right whenyou can match up with people based on yourpreferences out of the gate, and software canweed out your dislikes based on entered data andintegrated intelligence features. This saves time, and everything revolves around busy schedules, right? You wanted it done yesterday? Look nofurther! 10. Personalized Groups will become more popular Users can connect with others that have similar interests, andessentially be e-friends. An example would be Facebook groups where users join andmeet to discuss latest games from their favorite developer, orcar guys that discuss new models as well as current. More users will collaborate dynamically on forums and otherplatforms, to reduce the need for travel or increased costs toattain the answer theyre seeking. Groups of outreach will play a larger role. Users around theglobe will be able to help others seeking help in times ofdepression, anxiety, and other situations in the form ofinteractive support groups. This will likely integrate media, webcams, and leverage those tools to create a morepersonalized feeling. 11. Uses and Gratifications TheoryThis theory describes and seeks tounderstand more about how and whypeople use media outlets to satisfyneeds. 12. Why and how to people usemedia to satisfy needs?Popularity As more people use media outlets to connect, it likely will pavethe way for most communication in the future. If you cant beatthem, join them!Personalization People will have networks of the ones they prefer, share theirfavorite products, subscribe to companies to receive the latestand greatest deals and information on products, and createtheir own personalized albums or picture-rich content. You canhave control over what you see each time you hit your page.Socialization and Entertainment Companies such as Red Bull are a great example. The freefallevent was cast onto social networks, and high-adrenalinevideos are created to give that sense of excitement in theirproducts. Ideas and advertising such as this translates to usersmore effectively, than say a boring old television commercial. 13. Ease of Use I expect about 75 percent of food ordering to be doneonline or by mobile phone without making a single call bythe year 2023. Delivery and carryout will see the largestimpact. Media outlets will support most of the modern worldsexpression. From rants to raves, most people will seekout these outlets to express themselves. Futurepersonalization trends will include more than just a regularold status update. Your devices that connect to theseplatforms may soon be able to describe how you feel, without you ever having inputted data. These devices will become interconnected with yourthoughts through artificial intelligence software. If you arehaving a bad day and you like kittens, the first video youwill see upon opening your internet browser will beyouguessed it, kittens! 14. Media System Dependency TheoryThis theory describes the dependency between a userand the media they frequent. Basically, it seeks toexplain the role media will play in ones life based onthe amount they use certain forms of media. 15. The Media System Dependency Theory will continue togrow into 2023. Heres a look at how:Social Aspects Social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebookwill still be popular as smartphone users increase andinternet becomes more widely available Over 55 percent of Americans have a social mediaprofile somewhere, up 4 percent from 2012. About 25 of Americans use social networking sites atleast once a day. 16. Future Media-Dependent TrendsHere lies the trend. Social media has become a bigger part in modernlives. As internet becomes widely available and social media toolsbecome popular, many businesses also turn to these tools to assist withe-commerce to stay competitive. 80 percent of US citizens will have a social networking account orprofile Most users will be recommended and given personalized deals onproducts, based on their profile and internet activity. One click ordering from a company likely to be embedded within asocial media link. Social Business platform use likely to increase as co-workers collaboratefrom around the world. Microsoft SharePoint/Yammer Jive Software Investors and Stock Exchange may have strong partnership with socialmedia tools for information such as earnings reports 17. Theory of the Long TailThis theory describes the trend shift towardsmarkets offering more personalized productsand services, instead of only traditional, high-demand popular products. 18. The Long Tail continues into2023, but why? This is the trend I find the most fascinating, and one Iexpect to continue well past the year 2023. Hereswhy: Personalization, Personalization, and well,Personalization In past years before the prominence of e-commerceand widespread internet, consumers didnt alwayshave their own personalized, off-the-wall choice ofproduct. The emergence of internet has allowed consumersto find less popular items and services. The internet takes location out of mix, sinceinterconnectivity is growing. 19. Long Tail continued Lower costs of internet gives room for the smallerguys, or the LongTail. Less competition, however with the scale and reachof internet, anyone may be able to access yourproduct. Lower barrier of entry in a niche market than in thepast. Advertising money is made the same way for topproducts as it is the bottom. The playing field maylevel out more. In the future, we will see more niche products andservices that are customizable to user wants andneeds. 20. SourcesRogers, E. M. (1983). Diffusion of Innovations (3rd ed.).
