President’s Reports Presidents Report November 2020

Well this month’s bulletin is for the months of October and November as Andrew Bayley is stuck in New South Wales for work. Again, this is one of the things that happened because of COVID-19. In the last month, we have had one event, Cogs Carnival which was also Round Three of the Autocross Series and Round Four of the Cec Jackman motorkhana series and was run by Damien Faulkner and his team. A big thanks must go out to Paige Haddon for Covid testing again, thanks Paige, with the autocross on Saturday, we had 40 entries and 38 finishers. The winner of the autocross was Richard Gay, due to the previous place getters not meeting the supplementary regulation. Just reminding people, you need to be a current financial member, to run in our events. November’s Friday night meeting will go ahead, it will be outside. The but is with Friday night meeting will be if it is raining or bloody cold, we will not be having it, because we cannot have it inside with more than 28 people at the meeting. In the last month, the roller wheels have been put on and been painted, thanks also to Damien Pollock for the scrapers on the wheels of the roller, for making up the girdle that the rubbers on and also for coming out and giving me a hand one night to put them on, Noel for giving a hand to paint it. Members, between now and 6 December we’re going to have to have some sort of working bee, to tidying up around the motorsport complex and clubrooms, for the Geordie Fawcett Christmas autocross and things like emptying bins, cutting grass, just removing rubbish from around the Motorsport complex and many other jobs as required. Looking at the calendar I reckon maybe Tuesday 1/12/20 and Wednesday 2/12/20 and Thursday 3/12/20 after 5:30 looks like it will be the working bee, if anybody is available to do a few things out there. To those that do not go out to the Geordie Fawcett Christmas autocross, I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a bloody happy New Year and 2021 hopefully you will be a lot better than this year’s motorsport. Thanks Barney Presidents Report January 2021

Well, The New Year’s is here, hope everybody’s had a great New Year and Christmas and you had plenty of pudding.

The year has started off much like from March last year with this bloody Covid.

Going back a bit Geordie Fawcett memorial Christmas autocross was a good day, with 38 entries.

The morning started with a bit of a Go to Woah on the old bombers strip. Just to get the tyres warmed up for the autocross.

Clerk of course was Darren Wythe with the autocross team with some new additions, so thanks to all those new members

who pitched in and helped the day ran well.

To the younger Brigade of members and their partners, thanks for getting in and helped pack everything up. All competitors

got six runs with the winner being Richard Gay followed by Ben McKee plus my Oakley Haddon was third. Then we went

across to the clubrooms where the girls had prepared a bloody great Christmas tea, big thanks to those people that did help

with the food. Thanks to all who helped with the cleaning up around the club rooms at the working bee, thanks to all those

who made the place look terrific. Then the man in red turned up thanks to Santa also a new member but we will not have to

send his membership all the way to the North Pole.

While over the Christmas break the committee has looked at land but nothing yet, we’ve also now got a amplifier for Mount

Leura Hillclimb. Many thanks go to Greg at Stanford for the past twelve months of all the tyres the business has repaired at

no charge to the club, just to members if you’re looking for tyres, go and see Greg at Stanfords in Dawson Street and do

mention that you from the car club. This year looks fairly lean without the Off Road Rush, as due to Covid and their time

frame, we are not sure of how many events that they will do this year. This year also we won’t be doing parking for this

Ballarat Swapmeet as well as the Rotary club won’t need the facilities of the clubrooms. This will take a toll on our finances

but those phone books, yes that’s right those bloody phone books, (one of those bloody’s for you to Chris). This is going to

be one of our major fundraising activities for this year. So instead of bloody Noel needing to ring you or ask you, more

hands make light work, if you and your friends or family can put it in an hour and you are part of a section that all you need

to do we need this to be knocked over, so that we can get the income from them sooner. On the 29th of this month Friday

night meeting will be the AGM. Guest speaker of Peter Waugh from Ballarat Tramways Museum with an upmarket supper.

    Stay safe and take care.

  • 14 JAN 21 The Bulletin

Local Ballarat light car club member Richard Gay enjoyed

the return to Motorsport on the weekend

After a lengthy lay off due to back surgery & covid19.

Saturday Richard competed at Phillip island Grand Prix

race track in his Toyota 86 2 litre sports sedan at the

    MSCA sprints.

“This is my favourite track, very fast, takes big

commitment & with the 86 reaching speeds of 240km/h at

the end of the straight & 198km/h through the kink before

Honda corner gets my full attention”

Due to weather & bedding in tyres, only had one session which wasn’t affected by weather, but still managed

a 1.51.30 time for first in class 2M out of 18 competitors. While slower than previous times was great to be at

the track & the car run faultlessly. Winning my class was a bonus !

Two other BLCC locals in young 16 year old Jordan McDonald in his Hyundai excel series race car &

Stewart Hocking in his Audi A3 both had their first run at the Phillip island circuit. Both improved their times

over the day & loved the fast & flown circuit with Jordan’s best a 2.08 for 13th in class 2M & Stewart best of

    2.02 for 23rd in class 4M

Sunday Richard changed cars to his Galant VR4 group A 4wd turbo rally car to compete in the BLCC annual

Geordie Fawcett Memorial Autocross on the dirt track at the Ballarat airport.

This is a timed 1.4km dirt track with lots of twists & turns reaching speeds up to 110km/h on the slippery

    surface.

Being that Richard was friends with Geordie he was keen to win this event, having placed on the podium

    previously.

5 runs were had with Richard fastest on 4 of the runs with the best time counting for the day. Run 5 Richard

recorded a 81.42 which was a second quicker than 2nd place Ben McKee in his Subaru & gave him the

outright win & class win for the event.

Richards son Sam Mennen competing in the Vr4

as well recorded a 84.2 to place 5th outright &

    3rd in class.

It was a honour to win the event & what a great

    weekend of Motorsport

This would not be possible without the

outstanding support from several key local

businesses in Peter Corcoran at Auto Projects,

Justin Doherty from Doherty & Clark & Craig

Riddiford from Craig signs and Glenn Watson

    from Shift works.
