In fact, on February 4 I will turn 59 and he will turn 21. Time marches on….it's difficult to rd comprehend that my son will soon be an official adult, even though as a 3 year college student (with at least 3 more to go before graduation,) he is quite dependent on me, especially for moral support, encouragement and, most importantly financial help. Once in a while I think about how it will feel when I don't have to worry about my kids and be their #1 cheerleader….yeah, like that will ever happen, right? And then I think about that a little more and realize that maybe God feels the same way. Desiring to give us a bit more independence, but longing deeply within the divine grace and love to be there for whatever…encouragement, support, comfort, strength, laughter, hope. And, it might not be pennies from heaven showered upon the beloved of God, but the blessings abound and are freely bestowed, as grace upon grace unfolds. God longs for us to seek divine guidance. The almighty creator, gracious redeemer, and constant strength longs for us to connect intentionally as a dependent child connects with a loving and generous parent. Yet, willfully, we run and attempt to navigate life or negotiate life's conditions. God's outstretched arms await our return. As we move into the season of Lent, toward the end of this month, maybe we could benefit from a spirit of humility and sense of dependent awe and gratitude for God's gracious embrace and constant forgiveness, like an encouraging parent supporting us to give life another shot. In worship we will soon verbalize both God's wish and our response, “We are turning, Lord to hear you; you are merciful and kind – slow to anger, rich in blessing, and with love to us inclined.” Join your voice in that prayerful verse, and be astonished as God's promise fulfilled. Valentines Day

February 19, 2020

February is my birthmonth…and my son, Joshua's birthmonth. In fact, on

February 4 I will turn 59 and he will turn 21. Time marches on….it's difficult to rdcomprehend that my son will soon be an official adult, even though as a 3 year

college student (with at least 3 more to go before graduation,) he is quite

dependent on me, especially for moral support, encouragement and, most

importantly financial help. Once in a while I think about how it will feel when I

don't have to worry about my kids and be their #1 cheerleader….yeah, like that will

ever happen, right?

And then I think about that a little more and realize that maybe God feels the

same way. Desiring to give us a bit more independence, but longing deeply within

the divine grace and love to be there for whatever…encouragement, support,

comfort, strength, laughter, hope. And, it might not be pennies from heaven

showered upon the beloved of God, but the blessings abound and are freely

bestowed, as grace upon grace unfolds. God longs for us to seek divine guidance.

The almighty creator, gracious redeemer, and constant strength longs for us to

connect intentionally as a dependent child connects with a loving and generous

parent.

Yet, willfully, we run and attempt to navigate life or negotiate life's conditions.

God's outstretched arms await our return. As we move into the season of Lent,

toward the end of this month, maybe we could benefit from a spirit of humility and

sense of dependent awe and gratitude for God's gracious embrace and constant

forgiveness, like an encouraging parent supporting us to give life another shot.

In worship we will soon verbalize both God's wish and our response, “We are

turning, Lord to hear you; you are merciful and kind – slow to anger, rich in blessing,

and with love to us inclined.” Join your voice in that prayerful verse, and be

astonished as God's promise fulfilled.

Peace, hope, joy and grace be with you all,

Pastor Mary Beth Smith-Gunn

with the presence of God or the delight of gazing upward amidst stately Redwoods.

The awareness of sacred space may arise when watching meteors race across the sky or pausing to breath in the colors

of an amazing sunrise or sunset. God is quite the artist!

Sometimes my prayer chair next to my home altar creates a sacred space for me.

Holy ground is all around when we see the sacred in both our physical and spiritual geographies.

This year I want to intentionally practice noticing and honoring the sacred everywhere:

· In the ordinary flat territory of northwest Ohio.

· In the space between others and myself as we share life, stories, struggles, joy. Be fully present, beholding God

within the person right in front of me.

· Discerning, surveying and explore my own soul landscape with God as my guide and teacher.

· Paying attention to the presence of God in worship, in music, in nature and hearing his messages of love, grace,

and forgiveness.

· Being awake to experience grace in every place and to express these moments in writing, voice, and deepening

discernment of God.

Creating space in our calendar and time for God – Wednesday Lenten services and weekend worship. Reading our Bibles.

Sitting quietly with God. All practices putting us into the presence of God to be loved and shaped by the Creator.

I am even discovering a sacred space from my Alexa, Amazon's virtual assistant many of us now have in our homes.

If you go to Amazon and search for "Episcopal Prayer Alexa" you will find a list of various worship/prayer links to enable

at no cost to your home device. Now as I exercise in the morning, I will say, " Alexa, open Episcopal Prayer" and am led

through a morning prayer ritual complete with scripture. Nice way to start the day with God.

May we all know grace in every place.

What sacred spaces surround your soul? What is your word of the year if you have one? Let me know!

Wise Words

Lent begins at the end of February. How will you enter this time of worship, repentance, and

growing closer to God?

My word for the year is sacred space. Yes, I know that is two words, but this phrase continues to

resonate with me and is where God is inviting me into for 2020.

What is sacred space? You may at first think of a physical space such as a grand cathedral oozing

Congregational Luncheon & FellowshipWe are going to try something new...Following worship on the third Sunday’s in February and March we will be serving lunch for

anyone wanting to stay. On February 16, the menu will be roast beef sundae’s and on March

15, will will be having ham & bean soup. We’ve had folks donate the roast beef, the ham and

the beans so we won’t have much expense at all - there will be no cost. If you want to stay for

lunch and visit for a bit - GREAT. If you have nothing going on and want to stay longer perhaps

we could get some cards going or some board games. Let’s give it a try. Could be lots of fun.

Strawberry Festival 2020 Planning Meeting

will be on Monday, March 2, at 7 p.m. in the Lighthouse Room. Please attend and share your thoughts and offer your

talents as we look forward to this annual event in the life of Trinity and Bryan. Bring a friend!

birthdays for three of our Trinity

members... On the 1st of February,

Mary Arnold, Live Oaks Assisted

Living, 2300 N Cedar Street, #11, Foley, AL 36535,

turns 92. Celebrating his 89th on the 20th is Don

Collins, 06586 St. Rt. 15, Defiance 43512. On

February 21st Roger Chappuies, 112 Sycamore Lane,

will celebrate his 82nd birthday. God’s blessing to the

three of you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

The Souper Bowl of Caring is the result of thousands

of young people joining together to fight hunger and

poverty in their local communities. Our youth will again

participate in this worthwhile program that since

1990 has raised millions of dollars for hunger

programs around the United States. Youth will be at

the door after the service on February 2nd with soup

kettles and ask that you give $1.00 (more if you wish).

Everything collected will go the the First Lutheran

Church Food Pantry.

Congratulations to Lana Kelley whose

Hope everyone is enjoying Trinity’s coffee corner. Our

youth have been in charge of making coffee and

getting things all setup before our worship service and

they have been cleaning up too. A big thank you to

them. If anyone would like to help with this job, please

see the sign-up sheet on the kiosk in the narthex. It’s

just a matter of running three pots through our new

Bunn Coffee System (regular, decalf and water),

pouring them into the new pump vessels and taking

them to the narthex. It only takes a few minutes. The

new system is really quick. All the rest of the supplies

are in the cabinet behind the table in the narthex so

it’s just a matter of minutes to get things set-up. It’s

good to have things ready to go by 9:30am. Please

sign-up for a Sunday and see how it goes.
