Inspiration Around Every Corner. We would like to engage your youth and your community

The 2018 Host Organizational Committee wishes to engage your Rotary club in a grassroots project that will educate local youth on Rotary values, while simultaneously celebrating our achievements.

In partnership with VIBE Arts, the 2018 Host Organizational Committee (HOC) wishes to engage up to 30 Rotary Clubs and their local community in the creation of large murals that reflect the gifts and values of the Rotary movement. that reflect the gifts and values of the Rotary movement.

Who is VIBE ARTS?• Established in 1995, VIBE Arts is a charity that provides opportunities for

marginalized youth in under-resourced communities so that they can engage meaningfully in free high quality arts education. For example, VIBE works with Boys and Girls clubs, shelters, schools, community centers, public housing, hospitals, hospices, libraries, detention centers and shopping malls.

• This is an opportunity to invest in youth from your community. In collaboration with VIBE Arts, you will help identify a local youth charity or agency who will benefit from the programming at no cost.

How does it work?Local youth create art

• Participation is requested. In collaboration with VIBE Arts, your local Rotary Club will suggest and help identify a local agency or charity working with marginalized youth. Perhaps this is an organization that has benefited from a Rotarian gift in the past or perhaps this is a new and deserving organization.

• A Local Artist is hired. VIBE Arts will work with the agency to identify a local artist who will guide the youth in the creation of the 6 feet x 4 feet mural. Typically 15-20 youth are involved in the creation of a large mural.

• Materials are shipped free of charge. A 6 feet x 4 feet blank canvas, art supplies i.e. Paint, brushes, etc. an educational toolkit are all shipped to the selected agency or organization.

• The theme is researched and explored. Art is created. Youth will be inspired to explore themes dear to Rotarians such as promoting peace and community harmony, wellness, a healthy environment, economic vitality, etc. Youth will research the theme and learn about the importance of Rotary clubs in their neighbourhood. Under the leadership of the professional artist, youth will then create two original 6 feet x 4 feet murals which express two of the themes.

• Local Media: When the mural is finished, there will be an opportunity to introduce the murals and their story to the local media; VIBE Arts will prepare a template media release to assist with this opportunity to build your brand and projects locally.

• Murals are shipped back to VIBE Arts. The murals are then shipped back to VIBE for digital reproduction and for the exhibition. There is no cost to the local agency/organization or school.

Where will the art be displayed?ORIGINAL ART: Thanks to a $100,000 donation from Pattison Outdoor to VIBE ARTS, all 60 murals will be installed in their original form on the platform of Toronto’s underground subway network (the TTC) for an 8 week timeframe (June - August 2018) which will overlap with the International Rotary convention.

– ART GALLERY: This installation of original art will in effect create an underground art gallery of children’s art from under-resourced neighbourhoods highlighting and aligned with Rotarian values for millions of passengers to enjoy on a daily basis. There are 1.5 million daily passengers on the TTC who will be exposed to this Rotarian project over an 8 week timeframe, building our brand in a positive way.

– LOCAL LOGOS: As partners in the project, the local Rotary club logo and the selected agency logo will be included at the base of the local mural.included at the base of the local mural.

– AFTER THE EXHIBIT: When the mural exposition is over, the original 6 feet x 4 feet murals will return to the participating Rotary clubs.

DIGITAL COPIES OF THE ORIGINAL ART: In order to broaden the reach, we will take digital copies of each mural and these copies will be showcased at the 2018 International Rotary Convention in the House of Friendship exposition. Your local Rotary Club will be recognized as one of the partners in this project. In addition:

– High Traffic Locations: We will offer the digital files on a complimentary basis to hotels and other venues that will host the 25,000 Rotary visitors to our city. Each venue will have the opportunity to create an exhibit of the mural images – either digitally on TV screens or hard copy.

– Participating Rotary Club: We will also provide digital copies to each participating Rotary club in the event that you wish to promote the images locally. Some clubs may want to affix their local image on a plaque and use as a thank you gift for guest speakers, etc..

In 2015, VIBE partnered with the Pan Am Para Pan Games to Welcome the 41 Nations visiting Toronto for the Games. Youth researched their country and created a mural to welcome the athletes. Above we see Bahamas, Argentina and Ecuador.

The art was displayed in 30 TTC stations for 8 weeks and digital reproductions were mounted on a plaque and became the welcome gifts for the athletes and coaches. 9

In 2016, VIBE partnered with the 2016 NBA All Star Game; youth explored important values associated with a BALL in their lives. Above we see PLAY, SPORTSMANSHIP, SELF-CONFIDENCE. In 2017, VIBE partnered with Community Foundations of Canada and various corporate partners in the creation of an art exhibit for Canada’s 150th birthday. Youth explored important values associated with REASONS WE LOVE CANADA. Above we see Peace, Trans Canada Highway and Summer (3/60 images). The art was displayed in the TTC for 8 weeks this past summer.

11

As an example, for the 150 project in Mississauga, we partnered with Morning Star Middle School (30 students) and Nexus Youth Services (15 participants) to illustrate the following reasons Why We Love Canada: "Freedom", the "Trans Canada Highway", "Peace", and "Summer". Feedback from the youth artists: "The main impact for us was the discussions leading up to the creation. It encouraged us to think of Canada in deeper/different ways". The youth also said : "I could see the group grow more confident to speak up around each other which was great. Towards the end of the project I also saw the group painting with greater care and confidence".

4:1 SROI IMPACT

12

4:1 SROI IMPACTThe social value created by VIBE ARTS’s accessible educational arts programs is wide-ranging and diverse across the multitude of programs offered. A recent independent study by SiMPACT Strategy Group, a social impact consultancy, concludes that VIBE ARTS has a 4:1 Social Return on Investment.

Value is created for numerous stakeholders: ! Participant youth (54%): access to art supplies, exposure as artists, community support.! Community (40%): reduced vandalism, positive public perception, community embellishment. ! Art assistants and teachers (6%): skill development, income and training.

After experiencing a VIBE ARTS program, over 98% of program partners ask VIBE Arts back which is also a key indicator of their success in the community.
