Dear Readers

Welcome to this edition of the Tradewinds Newsletter September is National Senior Center

Month and therersquos no better place to celebrate than with your friends at the OASIS This yearrsquos

theme is Find Balance at Your Center The balance found at senior centers is directly

connected to the whole person wellness programming that OASIS strives to achieve Taking a

painting class listening to a lecture going on a field trip or laughing with friends are all

moments that allow for a daily practice of maintaining balance You will see this month is

filled with opportunities to find your balance On page nine of this newsletter we highlight our

activities during National Active Aging Week September 26 ndash 30 This is done in

collaboration with the Active Aging Committee of the Santa Maria Valley so there might be

some new faces at the activities We hope yoursquoll enjoy

For those who havenrsquot heard the exciting news we were voted runner-up as the 2016 Best

NonprofitCommunity Group in Northern Santa Barbara County in the Santa Maria Sun

McKenzie from the paper came by my office a few weeks ago and presented me the award

certificate and decals which the top two organizations receive Last yearrsquos runner up was the

SMV YMCA and Irsquom sure theyrsquoll want their place back on the list next year Thatrsquos okay wersquoll

let them have it because wersquore going to take first place in 2017 A special thank you goes to

OASIS member George Torbert for asking everyone to vote

Now on to your monthly New OASIS Center update After several studies and surveys all

applications have been submitted to the county and under review for the next few months

Wersquove had nothing but positive feedback and I have to commend the relocation team for the

work that has been done to date The Chairman of the Relocation Committee is OASIS 1st Vice

President Loren Gasser who deserves applause for the blood sweat and tears hersquos shed The

remaining committee members are President Rick Velasco Brian Hall 2nd Vice President

Delores Luis Past President Joe Sheaff our architect Vivek Harris and me We hope to be

back in front of the planning commission for approval sometime this winter Irsquoll keep you

posted

This summer we pushed to get more discounts for OASIS members at locally owned

businesses in the area Wersquoll be posting them in this newsletter (Page 11) as well as in the

OASIS office on our website and on Facebook as they become official Over the weekend

Jackrsquos Restaurant renewed their 10 discount on their bill to all members (excluding

alcohol) Jackrsquos food has been incredible and they have really nice specials every day I

encourage you to take your membership card there and give them a try Janice Gomes from

Entourage Salon at 220 A East Clark Avenue is offering 15 off any hair amp nail service for

new customers That can add up to quite a bit of savings so you should really think about

paying her a visit Anytime Fitness in Old Orcutt contacted us offering a variety of

discounts There are more discounts than I can list here so wersquoll have them on our website

You can also call Anytime Fitness at 938-1300 and ask for Summer to find out what your

OASIS membership will get you at their gym More discounts to comehellip
