EXPECT to see plenty ofcolourful prints about onMelbourne Cup with prints thecurrent fashion trend among theladies for race day according toHalie Elliott of All ThingsWedding and Formal GlenInnes.
“Prints are going to be thebiggest thing, bright colourfulprints, floral and abstract printsare all very big at the moment, pinks, purples, and blues acrossthe board are the most popular,”she said.
Mrs Elliott said shiny clutch
purses and handbags will bematched up with bright fascina-tors by the ladies with the gentsalso looking to match their tieswith the colour of choice of theirpartner on the day.
“In terms of fascinators andheadwear bright colours teamedwith blingy clutch bags are whatthe girls are going with.”
“The guys are complementingcolours with the girls this year,so bright coloured ties thatmatch with or tie in with whattheir partners are wearing,”
“Mostly long ties, little skin-ny ties are starting to comethrough again.”
There will be plenty on offer
from the licenced venues on theday with Glen Innes and DistrictServices Club holding a chickenand champagne luncheon for$15 and they will also hold afashions on the field competitionand a fashion parade with MsElliot involved, with prizes forbest dressed lady and man andbest dressed hat, there will alsobe race themed giveaways dur-ing the day.

All the big name trainers eye off the CupGLEN Innes will stop alongside the rest ofAustralia on Tuesday November 4 for therace that grips a nation, the 2014 MelbourneCup.
Pubs and clubs across town are expectinga busy afternoon with Glen Innes puntersdressed in their best and celebratingAustralia’s greatest horse race.
If people aren’t out and about on the daythey are sure to be glued to their televisionsor engrossed in their radio’s come race timeas the Cup continues to grow into arguablythe biggest sporting event in the nationrivalling and perhaps even surpassing thepopularity of the NRL and AFL grand finals.
At the time of going to press the field isyet to be confirmed but bookies hadJapanese horse Admire Rakti as a 4.50favourite. Recent group one winner Junoobwill pay well and may be popular with pun-
ters with cup winning jockey Blake Shinnconfirmed to ride.
If he is allowed a weight penalty CaravanRolls On trained by Danny O’Brien could bethe horse to back if recent form is anythingto go by.
Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse is alsosaid to be hard at work to get her entrant TheOffer ready in time for a tilt at the cup.
At one stage earlier this year The Offerwas an odds on favourite to win the cup afterblitzing all comers in autumn’s Sydney cup,but a poor run of form has seen the horsemiss the placing’s in its last four Melbournestarts.
Racing legend Bart Cummings will bekeen to win yet another cup with his horseWhoshotthebarman.
The Chris Waller trained galloper is astrong chance of fending off the foreign
horses to keep the cup in Australianhands. The ex-kiwi horse carriesrecent good form including tworecent wins at Flemington into therace.
Sydney’s premier Jockey JamesMcDonald may also be one to watch
having switched Godolphin trained horsesfor the cup from Cavalryman to Willing Foeand the word out of the Godolphin camp isthey believe Willing Foe to be the horse tobring the stable its first Melbourne Cup.
Fellow Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman islooking to ride Mutual Regard in the cupafter appealing the severity of a recentimproper riding charge.
The foreign raid on the cup continues thisyear with Admire Rakti potentially joined byfellow overseas trained horses Dandino,Protectionist, Amralah, Mutual Regard, andRed Cadeux.
Red Cadeux will be well backed after fin-ishing as a runner up in two Melbourne cupswhich will be enough for many to believethe European horse can go one better in whatwill be his fourth straight Melbourne cup.
