“Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “When I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, But rather for hearing the words of the LORD” (Amos 8:11). E ach Lord’s Day reminds us of the need to feed the hungry. They do not hunger for bread nor thirst for water. Rather, they hunger for the words of the Lord! There is so much false Christianity broadcasting on our airways, that many who search for God only find a warped understanding of the faith. The charlatans and the entertainers have used Christianity to hawk the wares and exploit the people with false promises. And the people go hungry for the words of the Lord. Many pulpits are filled with story-tellers and religious comedians. Instead of worshiping the Lord they entertain them with lights and theatrical presentations. They have forgotten the need to persuade. And the people go hungry for the words of the Lord. In a postmodern world, confused by a multitude of voices contradicting one another, a hungry generation seeks to find a true foundation to build their lives on. They seek a faith that will not change with the passing of time. Though they may not know it, the people are hungry for the words of the Lord. The Lord Jesus said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God’” (Matthew 4:4). Each Lord’s Day, we seek to feed those who hunger for the words of the Lord by providing a simple and clear, Bible-based message of truth with love. As faithful stewards we must provide what people need most for their spiritual lives. We strive to help people know God and His will for their lives. Our task is to open for them the words of the Lord that lead to eternal life. We need your prayers and your financial help to feed the hungry each Lord’s Day. Each dollar you invest in SEARCH feeds souls that are hungry for the Word of God. Bread might give them life for a day, but the Word of the Lord can give them life forever. We can do nothing without God and the faithful support of good brethren who share our passion to feed hungry souls. We are deeply grateful for their gifts and sacrifices. We continue to need your help, especially through these early, lean months of 2012. As we expand our ministry into many new areas, your help is crucial. Millions of hungry people are depending on you and on us. Please help us. First, I must thank you for the many, many loving comments about my last two columns – the one in February about God’s keeping me busy, and the one in March about the death of our beloved brother in the Lord, Bill Jones.

I am very deeply concerned this morning about two things: (1) the reported death of America’s moral system, and (2) the reported decline – and the possible death of churches of Christ. I simply must speak up about them. Having for more than seven decades preached the word of God (1 Tim1:3-5) as it confronted current needs, I simply cannot keep quiet. This column is the only voice with which I have to speak up. I know I am “preaching to the choir” so to speak, but here in a nutshell is what I believe needs to be said.

First, no mature person will deny the death of the American moral culture. After a visit to America the French statesman-philosopher, Alexis de Tocuequivlle wrote, “America is great because America is good. If America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” One only has to read the morning newspaper to know America’s morality is no longer “good.”

Continued from Personally Speaking . . .

Since this time last year, SEARCH has added eleven domestic and two foreign broadcast stations. We prayed the Lord would open up for us doors for the word, and He did so abundantly! We air to 18 million more souls now than we did this time last year. Most recently we have added Mobile, AL and Charleston, SC, two markets with 2,114,800 souls. We launched into these new markets in faith, because we take seriously the Great Commission to preach the gospel to every creature. While the cost of airtime has come down, our growth in the eleven markets means we must raise an additional $10,000 per month. While churches in some areas are helping all they can, we do not have the full amount. Will you invest in souls and invest in heaven? Will you help us spread the gospel to millions each week. SEARCH is now going to some areas where no other gospel message is available. We need your help to continue God’s work. People are hungry for the truth! I was blessed a few weeks ago to meet three young men who were searching for the truth and found it at the Clarksville Church of Christ in Clarksville, AR. Anthony, Chris, and Rick are brothers who were home-schooled in a family that did not attend church. In spite of this, their parents required them to read the Bible. The Bible so excited these young men that they wanted to find a church home. They went up and down the highway in Clarksville, seeking a church that taught what they had read in Scripture. When they came to the church of Christ, they knew they had found it. A young man in California named Allyn recently emailed me of his search for the truth. He knew that what his pastor had taught about predestination was not Biblical, so he began to pray as he searched for the truth. A few weeks ago, he watched the SEARCH program at 3 am. When he learned about free will, he knew he had found the truth! He is now looking at a church of Christ a few miles from home. The truth works! And people are hungering for it. Will you invest in preaching, invest in souls, and invest in heaven? Please help us reach the lost. Send a contribution today and ask your elders to help SEARCH.

sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers,” etc. (1 Tim. 1:8-11). Then, closely akin to the demise of morality in America, and perhaps even a contributing cause of it, is (1) the reported declining numbers of members and (2) even the death of some churches of Christ. I am greatly concerned about these things. The message preferred by the Millennial Generation is “relationships.” A growing church is preaching the “gospel of your salvation” (Eph. 1:13; Mark 16:15-16).

As a gospel (a good news) preacher, I am divinely “charged” to use every means He provides to preach the gospel that saves men’s souls (2 Tim. 4:1-8), even to the millennial generation who views such preaching as “traditional.” You see, I believe it was not in the Lord’s plan for His church (Rom. 16:16) to conform to every culture (Rom. 12:1-2) but to transform it! I believe the gospel is an absolute necessity to preventing any more decline in numbers and to restore life to a dying church. I prefer to hear a sermon from the heart of an ignoramus stumble-bum than an irrelevant speech from the internet with all its colorful power-point and delivered by the most distinguished speaker a university can produce. W-e-l-l, them’s my thoughts for this month’s column. Whoever you are, I LOVE YOU.

SPOTLIGHTPROGRAMSMay 2012

Topics subject to change without notice

MAY 6 – SINNER’S BAPTISM

You’ve heard a lot about the sinner’s prayer, but have you heard about the sinner’s baptism? We’ll explore Acts 2:38 and see what God says about the necessity of baptism to salvation in this program.

MAY 13 – A PRISONER TO SIN

Christians love the Lord but sometimes find themselves doing things they’re ashamed of. In this program we’ll explore what causes people to become enslaved to sinful habits and what they can do to break free.

MAY 20 – KNOWING CHRIST

Do you know the Lord as well as you want to? What would you be willing to do to know Him better? Do you know His teaching and what He called sin? Are you His friend, and have you made Him yours?

MAY 27 – MORAL PURITY

The New York Times recently revealed that of mothers under 30, more children were born out of wedlock than within. Coming generations will hardly see moral examples in their parents. There is a crying need for moral purity.

As you see on the front page of this newsletter, the staff of IN SEARCH OF THE LORD’S WAY is excited to announce the expansion of the SEARCH television broadcast network into Charleston, SC and Mobile, AL. GOD has blessed this ministry with these new stations and we give HIM the praise for them.

WLCN TV, channel 18 in Charleston, SC will be airing the program at 7:30am each Sunday morning which will be available to 311,200 households for the first time as of April 1, 2012. WHBR TV, channel 33 in Mobile AL shares the signal with its neighbor city Pensacola, FL and will be available to 534,800 households, also beginning on April 1, 2012.

If you have not been to the SEARCH web-site recently, you will want to see the latest improvements and information available about the ministry. This newsletter is posted on the web-site several days prior to the printed ones being delivered

to the US postal system. Also, daily devotionals are written and offered by the staff members of SEARCH for your use. Please let friends and neighbors know about this free offering!

Many people who love this ministry and its history will ask, how and/or what is Mack Lyon doing now? Well, Dad is working hard on writing books. He is rewriting and updating some, and some are new. The one I’m most excited about is his autobiography. Just this morning, he was sharing with me some things that went on in his early years in preaching, both humorous and serious. I know many will be interested in the progress of these writings and SEARCH will keep you updated as to their availability.

IN HIM.... Chris Lyon

PARKERS LAKE, KY “Dear brother Lyon. I appreciate you and Chris taking time to talk with me today. I became acquainted with you and the SEARCH program while visiting relatives in Kingston, TN, who were listening to the preaching…..In 1992 my wife and I visited the church of Christ in Somerset, KY and began to more closely investigate the teachings of the church. The preacher was patient and knowledgeable. After years of ministry with the church of God Reformation, Anderson, Indiana, (ordained 1966) we (my wife and I) took our stand with the Lord’s Church. (No Earthly Headquarters, this is good.) And I have been preaching for a small congregation in KY in 1992, 1993, and until 1996 I was asked to preach with them on a regular basis. I am still working with them. Again, thank you for the help you have been to me, and still helping by the TV ministry. Give my appreciation to Phil Sanders.”

MERIDEN CT “Praise the Lord! I watch your program on Sunday mornings sometime before going to church. I love and enjoy your messages of God from the Word, especially the neat blessed songs from the book. Please send me your Bible Study. Thanks.”

HEAVENER, OK “I am of the Baptist faith. This is a very enlightening sermon that was preached today (Once Saved Always Saved). I have been watching every week and very much enjoy. I have gotten a lot out of the program. Thanks.”

BISMARK, ND “I watch ya’ll’s program Sunday mornings on cable 44 INSP at 6:30. I enjoy it very much. This is a request for your Bible Correspondence Course and study notes.”

HENDERSONVILLE, TN “We watch your program every Sunday morning and have for years. We want to make a small contribution. Keep up the good work!”

McKINNEY, TX “I love your preaching and the church of Christ. I wish there were more TV ministries from the church of Christ to reach more people and help save the lost.” (Generous check enclosed.)

SAN QUINTIN, CA “I recently (because of a lock-down) had the opportunity to watch your broadcast and was blessed by your message on faith and obedience. If possible could I receive a written copy of the complete study?”

TRAVERSE CITY, MI “Today I decided to go to my church’s 2nd service and turned on the TV to catch the news. Instead I found your program. It was so refreshing to hear God’s word through the entire program. Most churches give a few verses and then spin off from it personal stories or a few jokes. See you next Sunday!”
