There have long been relationships between business and sport but rarely has there been an opportunity like this, for businesses and individuals to become exclusively associated with world class athletes in an Olympic sport.

At a time when English hockey is riding high on the international stage and attracting growing interest from the public and media alike, the England Hockey Board is offering an unparalleled opportunity to share in the teams’ success while expanding business horizons and helping to develop the hockey players of the future.

Our European Championship winning men’s team and World Cup bronze medal winning women represent the pinnacle of a sport that is played by more than 100,000 people in clubs across the country every week and by thousands more children in schools. Hockey’s AB audience with a near 50:50 gender split makes it an exciting sport for businesses to align themselves.

With its distinctive range of benefits, including athlete appearances, social events and access to tickets, membership of The 1908 Club allows businesses to capitalise on an association with hockey and its Olympic athletes, whether through client hospitality, networking events, staff engagement or unique PR opportunities.

Through the Junior Development Fund, money from The 1908 Club is reinvested in grassroots hockey to afford more young people the chance to reach their true potential, irrespective of their circumstances.

To discover more about how you can benefit from an association with hockey through The 1908 Club read on. We look forward to discussing this exceptional opportunity with you.

In a sport steeped with heritage, 1908 represents a significant moment in English hockey’s rich history. In the year that London hosted the IV Olympiad, hockey became an Olympic sport for the very first time. In front of 5000 spectators at The White City Stadium, England’s men were crowned the inaugural Olympic hockey Champions as they recorded an 8-1 victory over Ireland thanks to hat-tricks from G. Logan and R.G. Pridmore and two goals from S.H. Shoveller.

More than a century on, our national teams are still competing at the top.

The intervening years have brought two more Olympic men’s titles, for England in 1920 and Great Britain in 1988, after a memorable victory over West Germany. Great Britain’s men also stood on the Olympic podium in 1948 and 1984, and in 1992 it was the turn of the Great Britain women, who won bronze in Barcelona.

Those successes inscribed the names of Sean Kerly and Jane Sixsmith into Britain’s sporting history books and the time has come for a new golden generation to stake their claim; names such as 2009 World Young Player of the Year Ashley Jackson, World Player of the Year nominee Barry Middleton and Crista Cullen, three times named in the World All Stars Team.

Today, hockey is one of the fastest, most athletic and exciting team sports. Long gone are muddy grass pitches, wooden sticks and cricket pads for goalkeepers. These days, England’s top penalty corner specialists can flick the ball into the roof of the net at speeds of up to 100km/h while our athletes are among the fittest around, covering more than 7km in a 70 minute match.

The 1908 Club provides the opportunity to experience all this and more as today’s stars write the next chapter of hockey history.

INvESTING IN THE FUTURE THE JUNIOR dEvELOPmENT fUNd

Sport can play a significant role in the physical, social and emotional development of young people. More than 35,000 young people play hockey in clubs in England and the England Hockey Board’s Single System development pathway has been devised with them in mind, so that young people everywhere receive the opportunity to reach their potential through hockey.

A key aim of The 1908 Club is to afford more young people the chance to benefit from the Single System, irrespective of their circumstances. Through the Junior Development Fund, money from The 1908 Club is reinvested in the grassroots of the sport, helping young people aged 13-17 to develop their hockey talent and achieve their potential.

Harry Martin is one of the first young hockey players to go all the way to the top since the Single System was introduced. In the summer of 2010, at just 17, Harry made his senior international debut for Great Britain before going on to play for

England at the Commonwealth Games. Less than a year earlier, he had been playing at the Futures Cup, the Junior Regional Performance Centre tournament designed to give young players first-hand experience of a tournament environment.

The numbers of young people participating at different levels of the Single System are as follows:
