ar from being a gimmicky way to gather more data on Fcustomers and sell them more things, Internet of Things has the power to transform industries, businesses, and people
lives. Today, with the embarkment of Internet of Things, we can say that everything and everyone is connected. This technological and social shift of this magnitude is felt by every sector of the economy, every human being and every sector including Healthcare. Internet of Healthy Things (IoHT) bridges interoperability challenges to change radically the way in which healthcare is delivered, driving better results, increasing efficiency and making healthcare affordable to all.
Interconnected devices have been introduced to patients in several forms. Whether data comes from temperature monitors or electrocardiograms, tracking health information is vital for all patients. This creates an opening for smarter devices to deliver more valuable data, lessening the need for direct patient-physician interaction. Connected smart devices facilitate real-time data reporting primary monitoring systems, making the monitoring live and exceptions can be responded to quickly. Just imagine the value to a patient whose irregular heart rate is obtained by a smart wearable device triggers an alert to the cardiologist, who, in turn, can call the patient to seek care promptly. Or an implanted device monitoring a patient’s diabetic’s blood sugar, movement, skin temperature and more, and notifies an insulin pump device to regulate the dosage. Remote monitoring enables healthcare providers to keep track of high-risk patients frequently, allowing earlier intervention before a situation converts more severe.
This disruptive innovation led by IoHT is also providing an opportunity to reduce the cost of healthcare delivery. A recently published research shows that with remote patient monitoring for the heart, asthma and diabetes patients will allow a total saving of $200+ billion mainly due to the elimination of redundant and wasteful expenditures.
All these approaches will help to create products that engage enough with patients to assist them in crafting health goals which are appropriate to their life. Adopters of the Internet of Things in Healthcare are rising steadily which delivers very compelling messaging, sustain engagement and provide powerful motivators to make health and wellness a part of our everyday lives.

The
true A-to-Z photosynthesis system, and we’ve gone well over the efficiency of photosynthesis in nature.” “While the study shows the system can be used to generate usable fuels, its potential doesn’t end there,” said Silver, who is also a Founding Core Member of the Wyss Institute at Harvard University. Dubbed “bionic leaf 2.0,” the new system builds on previous work by Nocera, was full of many obstacles. The major one among those challenges was the fact that the catalyst used to produce hydrogen -- a nickel-molybdenum-zinc alloy -- also created reactive oxygen molecules that attacked and destroyed the bacteria’s DNA. To avoid this problem, researchers were compelled to run the system at high voltages, resulting in reduced efficiency. Nocera said the system is already capable enough to consider possible commercial applications but within a different model for technology translation. Though there may yet be scope for further increases in efficiency. Working in association with the First 100 Watts program at Harvard, which helped fund this research, Nocera wishes to continue improving the technology and its applications in nations like India with the aid of their scientists.
It took millions of years of evolution for plants to be the most efficient harvesters of solar energy on the planet. Much experimentation is underway into ways to
artificially mimic photosynthesis in devices like artificial leaves, but scientists at the Harvard University have successfully produced something they’re calling an “artificial leaf.” This artificial leaf harvests energy from sunlight through a chemical process called photosynthesis which can turn sunlight into the chemical fuel that can be stored and used later, allowing to run low-powered electrical devices. The artificial leaf is a silicon solar cell with multiple catalytic elements bonded onto its two sides, and it needs no wires or control circuits to work. Researchers claim that it can convert solar energy to biomass with 10 percent efficiency, far above the 1% seen in the fastest-growing plants. This efficiency rate is much higher than naturally occurring photosynthesis, which converts only 1 percent of solar power into the carbohydrates consumed by plants, and it could be a milestone in the shift away from fossil fuels. Daniel Nocera, a professor at Harvard University, who has pioneered the use of artificial photosynthesis, says that this system devised by him with his colleague Pamela Silver completes the process of producing liquid fuel from carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight. According to the Nocera, “This is a true artificial photosynthesis system before people were using artificial photosynthesis for water-splitting, but this is a

rug is chosen primarily for their active ingredients. Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients aka, Active DPharmaceutical Ingredients or bulk drugs are portions of any drug, which are active and impart its therapeutic value. Thus, depending on the drug’s administered dosage, the reactions and results
differ. Certain drugs are comprised of more than one kind of API.
Any drug is composed of two components or aspects. The first is the actual API or Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, which is the central ingredient. The second is known as an excipient. This refers to the substance inside the drug or formulation.
Regardless of where the active pharmaceutical ingredient is made, companies must adhere to strict safety and quality standards set by the country where it will be used.
As a result of lesser molecules getting approved in the market and generic-drugs emergence, Big Pharma companies are increasing their focus on generic versions of the drugs. Meanwhile, emerging generic players are competing with the big pharma players and are raising their R & D investments and increased focus on the generic-drug market. This heavy competition is forcing the players to have the early access to API.
Launching generic API is a challenging proposition requiring rigorous scientific research, enormous risks of costly failures and validation trials. With hard work and rigorous R&D, these challenges have never inhibited Biophore in becoming a leading APIs supplier. Biophore develops the APIs for new Generic Drug using processes which do not infringe the branded drug’ patents and has become the most trusted R&D driven company focusing on creating superior value and proposition by providing ‘end to end’ APIs solutions and achieving excellent satisfaction through continuous innovation.

Biophore has two USFDA approved world class manufacturing facilities along with two state-of-the-art R&D set-ups and a business office in New Jersey, the USA for operations support. R&D center at Hyderabad is the main center and has an area of 60,000 sq.ft. Visakhapatnam’s Facility is a small set up to support the central R&D. The company owns 40 DMFs and 50 patents in the field of process and polymorphs which show the dedication towards the research and development.
Meet “Magnum Opus” of ChemistryDr. Jagadeesh Babu Rangisetty, Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Biophore, serves on its Board of Directors. In this role, Dr. Jagadeesh is responsible for providing direction and overseeing the company’s growth as a global generic API’s R & D enterprise. With 22+ years of hands-on research experience, Dr. Jagadeesh brings key insights into day-to-day operations ensuring effective delivery mechanisms are in place, compliant with global standards. Previously, Dr. Jagadeesh has served as the Vice-President and founding partner of Navita LLC, USA.
Dr. Jagadeesh is viewed as an expert in the field of Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery, and has over 70 patents, has authored numerous articles in leading medical publications. He holds a Ph.D. from BITS Pilani and obtained his postdoctoral and research experience at VCU, VA. “Our aim is to place Biophore in the midst of most reliable knowledge based firms in the API sector in the immediate near future through customer-focused approach,” asserts Dr. Jagadeesh Babu Rangisetty. Dr. Manik Reddy Pullagurla, Founder and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Biophore, also serves on the Board of Directors. Dr. Pullagurla has 16+ years of rich research experience in the academia and the Industry. His foresight and attention to details have facilitated Biophore achieve success. holds a B. Pharm (Hons.) from BITS Pilani and Ph.D. from VCU, VA. He gained his post-doctoral experience from UGA, GA. “We are prioritizing our research and development efforts in the areas of complex chemistry and characterization, and categorize our APIs based on the therapeutic indications they cover and by their dosage forms,” assures Dr. Manik Reddy Pullagurla. Biophore Foundation: No Secret of Success, Only Hard WorkBiophore was founded by Dr. Jagadeesh Babu Rangisetty and Dr. Manik Reddy Pullagurla in 2007. Dr. Jagadeesh hails from village Chiluvuru of Andhra Pradesh. He always had a dream of starting his own business or a pharmaceutical company. But being from a middle-family, lack of capital from father’s Govt. job and lack of previous experience limited the dream of starting a pharmaceutical company. To pursue the dream, Dr. Jagadeesh felt the importance of higher education, and this paved the way into the research. Dr. Jagadeesh joined BITS Pilani where he pursued his Masters in the field of Medicinal Chemistry, and the passion towards the research motivated him to focus on drug discovery. BITS Pilani, which he adores a lot transformed his personality and sown the seeds of entrepreneurship. As a passionate chemist and as an aspiring entrepreneur, Dr. Jagadeesh felt that real contribution to the field could be made only through research that is useful to discover new drug. He then approached industry experts and entered into “first of its kind” collaboration at BITS Pilani and successfully developed several leads for drug candidates to treat brain related disorders and to treat malaria. His research at BITS lasted for six
years for which he was awarded a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry. His intense desire for research and fascination towards brain disorders made him attracted towards works of Dr. Professor Richard A. Glennon, who was one of the pioneers in the field. Impressed by Jagadeesh’s research and achievements, Prof Richard offered a position in his department at Virginia Commonwealth University to continue his research in the area of Drug Abuse, Drug Dependence, Migraine, Alzheimer’s for six years and published in several prestigious journals. It is during the same period when he met Dr. Richard Glennon’s another student Dr. Manik Reddy, Post Graduate in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry. Meeting Dr. Manik was a fortunate stroke of serendipity for Dr. Jagadeesh. The duo shared interests and passion towards chemistry, and their association grew closer and stronger. These strong ionic bonds of friendship latter laid the foundation for Biophore. In 2002, Dr. Jagadeesh with his few other friends started a company Navinta in the USA, which developed technologies for complex generics. Though Dr. Jagadeesh was quite satisfied with the venture, he was also enduring his dream of starting a company in India. His dream was on the verge of realization when Dr. Manik liked the idea. With the undying ambition to start a pharmaceutical company in India and with strong belief, both Jagadeesh and Manik moved back to India to start a technology development center with the same model. Research in India, then and even to an extent now is more through the traditional approach with a lack of proper infrastructure which made the duo work harder to keep their ambition alive. The transition from being a successful start-up to a take-off was a tough task, but the struggle never hindered the
ultimate goal. Biophore has filed 40 DMFs as a whole since its inception but the last three years have been exceptionally good in which the company filed 25 DMFs. They believe that this could contribute well to the Generic Pharmaceutical industry. Biophore’s R&D portfolio encompasses projects of different natures covering New Chemical Entities (NCE), Generic APIs, Niche APIs, grandfather products and few excipients diversified across different therapeutic areas and at the various stages of development. Niche APIs covers the following therapeutic areas of Oncology, Multiple Sclerosis, Topical Medications, Contrast/ MRI Media, Diagnostic, Iron/ Ferric Products. Biophore is quite successful in this area, and they plan to invest more in this area to maximize specific opportunities that involve patent challenges and complex chemistry. “We aim to position ourselves as the most trusted API source across all therapeutic segments,” says Dr. Jagadeesh. Biophore: Family of Superlative ExpertsDr. Jagadeesh feels that the employees are the extended family and reason for company’s growth. He believes that the performance of the company lies with employees and is proud of the low attrition in the company and loyalty towards the organization. Dr. Jagadeesh always remembers the cooperation of employees and the contribution they made when the organization was going through a rough phase. He also reminisces the days when employees offered the company to pay lesser salaries and how they dedicated themselves to fulfill commitments and develop the organization. To give back, Biophore introduced a unique performance based appraisal system which facilitates the employees to benefit beyond their

salaries. Dr. Jagadeesh, whose education was funded by relatives, feels that family and economic status should not be an obstacle to education. His vision motivated Biophore to start a program which sponsors several schools and students who are willing to pursue higher education. Jagadeesh wishes to extend this to many more schools as the company grows bigger. Aiming High & Dreaming BigThe company always strives to keep updated with the latest trends in the field of pharmaceuticals and to deliver the products with unrivaled quality and compliance. Biophore is working in three primary areas where to see growth opportunities as described as below; Firstly, further broadening of the product range. Secondly, on exploring the markets like Latin America, Middle East, and ROW, which till now were untouched by them. They currently supply APIs to about 100 companies across US, EU, India and few other markets. Thirdly, penetration into the US market which contributes to a significant chunk of their revenues &
the European and Indian Market. To support the plan, Biophore has invested into its new and manufacturing facility which is set to be operational in 2018. In the US, they are focused on strengthening their working relationship and product engagement with current customers and simultaneously penetrating the market irrespective of the size of the customer business. Having maintained relevance as an API manufacturer for about nine years, Biophore is aiming to evolve into one of the most trusted sources in the API segment. Their research that once began as the small lab in Hyderabad has grown into a 60,000 sqft state-of-the-art facility. Full-Fledged facility with the strength of about 250 scientists, exemplifying their focus and dedication towards the pharmaceutical research. “We are one of the largest suppliers for a couple of Contrast Media APIs in the Europe. Being successful with the diatrizoic acid derivatives and now are planning to develop and commercialize gadolinium-based
products and iodine-based contrast media,” divulge Dr. Manik Reddy. Biophore’s major challenge for the products selection is the patents and polymorphs. Dr. Jagadeesh firmly believes innovation as a component of the success for any organization those banks on technology. Innovation at Biophore starts with identification and selection of differentiated products. The challenge to maintain the uniqueness of portfolio involves two most important aspects. The first aspect is to select a product with complexities which made it less competitive and the other aspect is to see that the chosen product is a low volume and also involves multistep synthesis. And that's how the areas of Biophore’s research are APIs for Oncology, Peptides, contrast media and diagnostic agents. As the thought for the future, Biophore is poised to be a full-fledged Research & Development company with 300 scientists and supporting staff this year by September and aspires to be positioned to be in top 10 suppliers of APIs to Regulated Markets in near future.

n the terms of revenue and employment, Healthcare is one of the largest and vast sectors of India, and the IHealthcare Industry comprises the Pharma, Biotech, Hospitals, Clinical Trials, Outsourcing, Medical Equipment, Medical Devices, Health Insurance, and Medical Tourism. The Indian healthcare division is expanding at a brisk
pace due to its strengthening coverage, services and rising expenditure by public as well private players. India’s competing authority lies in its large pool of well-trained medical specialists. India is also cost effective as compared to its peers in rest of the Asia and Western nations. The cost of surgery in India is around one-tenth of that in the US or Western Europe.
Today, the Indian healthcare market is meriting US$ 100 billion and is expected to grow to US$ 280 billion by 2020 and a Compound Annual Growth Rate aka CAGR of 22.9 %. Healthcare services like hospitals, nursing shelters, diagnostics centers and pharmaceuticals constitute 65% of the total healthcare market. There is still a significant opportunity for enhancing healthcare considering that healthcare spending as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is rising. Rural India in total accounts for over 70% of the total country population, is set to emerge as a potential demand source.
India is still in need of 600,000 to 700,000 additional beds over the next five to six years, indicative of an investment opportunity of US$ 25-30 billion. The average investment size by private equity funds in healthcare chains has already increased to US$ 20-30 million from US$ 5-15 million, as per PriceWaterHouseCoopers.
The importance and usefulness of the Healthcare Industries and Hospitals have made Insights Success to shortlist few companies which are suitable for the listing of “The 10 Most Valuable Healthcare Solution Provider, 2016.” These are the companies who are providing the best Healthcare solutions while setting the industry standards. Atlanta Healthcare is already one of the leading brands in this segment and plans to continue to dominate this segment. According to P. K Jain, “We plan to continue being a focused company targeting newer products and solutions around Air Quality and purification. While 2016 would focus on the development of channel and distribution, in 2017 the company plans to focus on backward integration to build larger manufacturing capabilities.”
New Segments, New Opportunities, New GrowthAtlanta Healthcare is providing sustainable, economical and at the same time cutting edge solutions to the problem of air pollution. Their aim is to deliver solutions based on customer needs and accordingly over the last seven years the company has customized products to work efficiently in Indian environmental conditions.
“In the coming 9-12 months, one would see a series of new products in the air pollution segment being launched by Atlanta Healthcare to complete the value chain,” says Vibhor.
Their new product segments will harness the power of the “Internet of Things” which will change the way we control the quality of air in our homes, workplaces and cities. The company is working on solutions to provide “Pure Air as a Service” (PAAS), which will take air purification to the next level of evolution in Smart Homes and Office Solutions.
We need to ensure that we attack the
cause of air pollution. We are almost reaching a no point of return when it comes to
air pollution, and if we do not act now, we shall have our next generation suffering from severe health ailments and

For the first time, in the modern medical history, US-based researchers have grown a living
bone in the lab to repair craniofacial defects (large defects in the head and face of the patient). It was experimented on pigs with bone damage and obtained to be better at re-growing bones than other methods. This breakthrough will help in improving treatments for people with craniofacial defect and injuries. This
has been made possible by a new technique which utilizes autologous stem cells derived from the sample of recipient’s fat which precisely replicates the original anatomical structure of the bone. In this new method, unlike different procedures where a scaffold is implanted to promote the growth, the bone was first grown externally in the scaffold before implanting. This new technique developed by Gordana Vunjak-
Novakovic, a professor at Columbia University is recognized as a medical breakthrough of this century.
According to Vunjak-Novakovic, “We’ve been able to demonstrate through a clinical-size porcine model of jaw repair, that this bone, grown in vitro and then implanted, can seamlessly regenerate a significant defect while providing mechanical function.” Also, she asserts that the

quality of the regenerated tissue, including vascularization with blood perfusion, exceeds what has been achieved using other approaches. This step is forward in improving regenerative medicine options for patients with craniofacial defects.
Researchers from Louisiana State University and the Tulane University in the U.S., made a scaffold and bioreactor chamber based on pictures of the jaw defect, to render a precise anatomical fit. Recipient’s stem cells are isolated from a small fat aspirate and, in just three weeks, developed the bone within a scaffold constructed from the bone matrix, in a custom designed perfused bioreactor. The scaffold they built has unique advantages for clinical application because it enables bone formation
without the use of growth factors, and also provides mechanical function.
An unanticipated outcome was that the lab-grown bone, after implantation was gradually substituted by new bone developed by the body, a result which was not seen with the implantation of a scaffold alone, without stem cells.
“Our lab-grown bone works as an ‘instructive’ template for existing bone remodeling rather than as an absolute implant,” said Vunjak-Novakovic. “It makes our implant an integral part of the patient’s bone, allowing it to adapt actively to the changes in the body throughout its life,” she added.
Researchers now incorporate a cartilage layer in the bioengineered living bone tissue to analyze bone
regeneration in complex craniofacial defects of the head and face. Further, Vunjak-Novakovic said that now, tissue engineering is indeed changing the way we approach tissue repairing, drug testing, disease modeling. “We now can control the cells to work for us and make tissues the way we need, by providing bioengineered conditions that mimic their native milieu,” she added.
The way regenerative medicine efforts are currently underway experimentally for virtually every type of tissue and organ within the human body, time is not far when we will not need organ donors, but the organs will be grown in labs from our cells which will also increase the chances of its acceptance by the body.

improve on our abysmal health indices, we have concentrated our efforts in primarily improving the last mile issues while turning a blind eye to the equally critical first mile problems.
What is a First Mile Problem?“I’m too young to worry about heart disease,” “I’d know if I had high blood pressure because there would be warning signs.” “My family has a long history of Diabetes, and I can’t escape it,” myths like these are indicative of the true issues which need addressing. Recently, a leading organization unveiled its non-invasive breast cancer screening device, and the promo carried women walking into a diagnostic center for her annual breast cancer preventive check-up and being screened with this new device. However, what experts failed to question, was, why would that woman walk that mile to the center in the first place? Is she aware that she needs to go for such regular screenings?
Healthcare in India is at a unique crossroad. While it boasts of some of the finest
physicians, low-cost treatment, and affordable medications, it is reeling under the pressure of skewed doctor to patient ratio, information asymmetry, and a highly unregulated marketplace. We have made rapid advancements in areas such as banking, telecom, and manufacturing, but, innovations in healthcare, for varied reasons, seem to be concentrated in solving the problem of few while leaving the majority to work their way through without much assistance.
In recent times, there has been an increasing diligence towards improving the standards of healthcare in India. Various initiatives by both Govt. bodies and private players (Established and Startups), targeted at both urban and rural population, are aimed at improving the reach and quality of care. However, in this pursuit to
This is what, we, at AllizHealth, believe is a classical first-mile problem. A situation where people despite having choices at hand, are unable to select one due to lack of adequate context or a holistic understanding of their body and health. Every year, roughly 5.8 million Indians die from heart and lung diseases, stroke, cancer, and diabetes. In other words, 1 in 4 Indians risks dying from a Non-communicable disease before they reach the age of 70. Part of this problem is precisely due to this lack of early warnings or inability to put the pieces together and make an informed decision. A person might have an access to the best weight management app or finest of wearable, but, if there isn’t adequate knowledge of the perils of high BMI, why would she act?
The OpportunityThe enormity of this challenge certainly creates as big an opportunity.
Healthcare in India - A First Mile Problem
By Gaurav Vij, Founder of Allizhealth

JULY 2016 |
The proliferation of smartphones, access to the internet and an increasingly “click” friendly population does provide an opportunity to leverage technology and address the first mile challenges. As per Gartner report, healthcare IT spend in India is expected to rise 3.4% to $1.2B in 2016. Same time, the total preventive care market in India is estimated to be over ~$800M. The big opportunity thus lies in coordinating the initiatives in both the sectors to build an ecosystem which starts with the basic fundamental of helping people understand their health better and then hands holding them resources to manage their health effectively.
At AllizHealth, we are building such a health platform which would help people figure their risks early and then use various resources to track and manage the same. By virtue of our association with some of the leading insurance and care providers in India, we are now managing the health of over 500,000 users across India. Using advanced analytics, various medical models, and predictive algorithms, we
are able to predict accurately the risk of every individual to various health conditions ranging from diabetes, CVD, CHD to mental and emotional health. Once we have figured the risks, our automated care program ensures that users are encouraged to manage their risks and adhere to their personalized care plans.
Once we have helped our users figure their risks, it opens up avenues to hand hold them to various care management options. Recommending calorie counting apps to wearable’s, reminders on medications, online lab test booking, medical second option, doctor chat to comprehensive condition management programs; the platform has the potential then to tie up various last mile niche service options. Thus the platform, by way of addressing the first-mile issue of risk identification and user health education, helps build the complete preventive care ecosystem.
The Road AheadAddressing the first-mile problem would involve unearthing health
problems even before they exist. The key to doing so would depend on well we are able to encourage users to provide that information and secondly, how effectively we are able to analyze the same and get back to the user with meaningful interpretations. It would also involve collaboration between all the stakeholders involved starting from insurance companies, healthcare providers, pharmaceutical companies to various niche providers such as healthcare at home services or wearable device manufactures.
So far, the industry has thrived on a lack of user participation in managing his/her health and relying entirely on the care giver to take the decisions on their behalf. However, if we are to improve on the abject state of healthcare in India, we have to build a user-centric system driven by the core objective of helping users figure their health better and have all the information on their hands to make informed health decisions. We are quite optimistic and believe, that the next wave of healthcare innovation in India would be focused on addressing fundamental issues and not try to replicate the solutions from the west.
About AllizHealthFounded in 2013 and based out of Pune, India, AllizHealth is a health tech venture in the preventive care space. It was founded by Mr. Chinmoy Mishra, Dr. Rasmi Mishra, Mr. Gaurav Vij and Mr. Dhairya Gupta. At present, it is a 30 member team backed by Mumbai Angels and with some of the leading physicians on its board. Through its proprietary health management platform, AllizHealth is looking to address the growing concern of Non-Communicable and lifestyle related diseases in India.

Preparing Hospitals
for KPI Excellence
n the recent years, the landscape Iof the Healthcare Industry has changed with the advent of
technology. Just a few years ago, hospitals infrequently saw the need to advertise and promote, or market its brand in India. The healthcare ecosystem was much simpler and straightforward. But all that has transformed over the past 20 years and has grown more sophisticated. Better hospital infrastructure, establishing a standard of excellence and marketing & media planning for hospitals is almost an obligation. The marketplace is much more competitive, and each healthcare institution is jockeying for an advantage. Often, hospital marketing and their media planning are stringent which makes it challenging, but Healthcare Consulting Services has emerged as an expert, rendering end to end solutions to hospitals and healthcare institutions with their marketing strategies to espouse and leverage brand positioning as a growth strategy and also assisting hospitals with operations management.
Meet the MaestroThe bellwether of transformation was founded by eminent professional Amit Sontakke, Managing Partner & Principal Consultant Healthcare Consulting Services (HCS). facilities and superfluous business generation in the unit/hospital/project. His core skill is to achieve faster market response and decision making, increase performance, reducing cost and strengthening competitive advantage for Healthcare projects.
He is a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Hospital Administration from Institute of Management Studies (IMS), Indore in 2001 and he has completed advanced course in Senior Management Program from IIM Calcutta in 2013-14 . He is having 16 years of experience in the major Multi-specialty Hospitals & Multinational Companies namely Hinduja Hospital, Manipal Group, Reliance ADAG Healthcare in senior positions. He has been instrumental in developing Health Management vertical (India Operations), as a Vice President of Alere Medical, a Global MNC. During this time he got global exposure of healthcare market & opportunity to meet healthcare professionals in Atlanta, Seattle, San Francisco, Taiwan, Malaysia & Paris to exchange ideas for business model validation.
A Broad Spectrum of ServicesSince its inception in 2013, the company is committed in preparing hospitals to engage future challenges and renders end to end solutions like Operations GAP Management, Marketing & Branding Strategies, Media Planning, Establishments of Clinical & Non-Clinical planning, helping hospitals with adequate and competent manpower & media equipment planning, Quality benchmarking and last but not the least managing and integrating Information Technology to the processes.
To find success in this modern time, hospitals need effective strategic planning, proper infrastructure, best
medical professional consultants, human resource allocation, clinical planning, sufficient knowledge & exposure towards statutory compliances and particular attention to the hospitals marketing and sales. HCS services are specially designed considering these multitudinous obstacles and these services contrive to overcome existing challenges clients face today.
A Glimpse of Inspiration behind Finding the CompanyAccording to Amit, “The underlying motive behind establishing this firm is to reform and serve the hospitals better. We strive for standardization in the hospital and healthcare system. Our idea is to help stalk the building blocks of the mid-size hospitals, less than 150 beded hospital.” “Over the years of experience, every institution has its system and culture of working which doesn’t require any change but needs streamlining as per the industry benchmarks. We help the hospitals simplify and assist them to sustain within the available resources,” he added.
Paving the Way by Overcoming ObstaclesBeing a small industry, it has many competitors which they come across. But HCS vision and goals remain the same which help them differentiate themselves from others. The key differentiator is “We evaluate &
measure standards of the Hospital by setting key performance indicator (KPI) dashboard for individual hospitals.”
While discussing most daunting tasks the company has faced, Amit has revealed that the biggest challenge was to help them recognize and expose them to the macro ecosystem of the industry and letting them out of their protective shells & coverings.
Along the way, the company has achieved milestones and which proves that the company has made a stronghold in the Healthcare Industry. Amit shared, “GAP Analysis for a hospital set-up was our first milestone. ‘Hospital Health Check Up’ was the name given for the GAP Analysis, which was started by only two of us at the beginning. ‘Commissioning of the Hospitals/Clinics’ was the second milestone we achieved. We successfully commissioned two major centers, one in Delhi & other in Bangalore for an MNC Investor. This led us to reach our third milestone of managing a mid-size hospital. To manage the complete business operations were a critical turning point and led us to our vision of Managing & Sustaining the Hospital Growth.”
Aggressive RoadmapThe company plans to grow from managing few couple of hospitals to 10-12 hospitals in each state. HCS has started talks with University Hospitals of the USA to collaborate with them to share clinical expertise with their managed hospitals. The company wishes to create their “Administrative & Clinical pool of Talent” to be routed in all of their managed hospitals to provide the best of clinical and Management expertise, even at the remotest level of the state. Amit also revealed that their long-term goal is to get into 10 -30 cities and manage at least 1000-5000 beds in the next five years.

On a cumulative basis, these professionals have rendered more than 500,000 man hours of consulting services to over 500 clients, designed 20.0 million Square feet of hospital space, and have coordinated hospital projects worth more than 10.0 billion INR,” says Dr. Vivek Desai.
While discussing initial challenges
faced by the company, Dr. Desai revealed, “Initially, Hosmac concentrated more on quantitative growth but later, started focusing on qualitative talent. There was a lack of concentration on initial Brand Positioning and Marketing, which was later taken care by hiring services of a PR agency, designing a dynamic website, and participation in industry exhibitions/conferences. Data security was an issue, and proper precautions
were taken to safeguard the data.” Hosmac stays on top of what’s next in the services which helped the company immensely to overcome stagnation. Hosmac’s design studio uses REVIT software from Autodesk which designs hospitals in 3D to avoid any clash of services during construction phase and also helps in accurate quantity estimation. “The company identifies new technology as a key enabler to accelerate their transformative strategies. Since the company aimed at growing fast, the only option was to keep diversifying which helped them to generate funds for growth by providing different types of services, and also kept them ahead of the competition,” Dr. Desai added.
At a personal level, Dr. Desai’s ambition is to set up an educational center of excellence for healthcare management and research. Continuing his efforts to contribute meaningfully to the industry, he and his young team launched Healthcare Executive, a business magazine devoted to the sector and in a short span of four years has become a must read for healthcare managers and is available as an App on iOS and Google Play. The magazine also organizes a Thought Leadership Summit every year to commemorate Hosmac’s commitment to innovation’s in the field of healthcare.
Hosmac India set up Hosmac Middle East in the Dubai Healthcare City in 2007 and later shifted to an owned premise in the JLT Multimodal free zone in 2012, with another branch office in Abu Dhabi opened in 2016, and is already doing work in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, and Africa. There are plans to open similar subsidiaries in Africa and Far East.

It can easily make another type of cells such as blood cells, muscle tissue, brain cells, nerve cell, etc. and many others. Second, isolated from adult human organs and tissues, called as multipotent stem cells also known as somatic stem cells.
Stem cells transplant have opened new doors of hope for the diseases which are considered as incurable today. Stem cell transplants can restore blood-forming stem cells in patients who have had their bone marrow destroyed by the large doses of chemotherapy and radiation therapy that are used to treat certain cancers. For example, in multiple myeloma and some other kinds of cancer, stem cell transplant can work directly against the cancer.
Stem cells propose a bright future for the therapeutic world by affirming treatment possibilities for the diseases or disorders which are currently as incurable. As stem cell research advances, we can hope to observe new frontier of therapeutics in the coming future.

According to Jones Lang LaSalle, by 2050, the number of Indian seniors will equal the country’s under-18 population. The Elderly in India were traditionally taken care of by their children or family members. But with younger generations relocating to other cities or even countries chasing their own dreams, many seniors now need to stay alone. As healthcare improves and our longevity increases, medical & non-medical care of the elderly becomes a major concern for busy families. Demand for Senior Care is driven by a variety of factors and cuts across socio-economic strata. Especially as chronic diseases become more prevalent, good medical & non-medical care for the aged becomes ever more critical for a better quality of life. Rajesh Satapathi, my parent’s care officer, is a caring, gentle, smart and aware human being. He is now part of our family. He visits my parents regularly, and the tasks he takes on are wide ranging, from making doctor’s appointments, hiring a taxi to take my parents to the hospital, finding the best doctor, helping them do their bills, running errands to bank, finding a ayah on short notice...The list is endless. And not only that, he always makes it a point to Whatsapp me or call me, even if there is no emergency,” says Sujoy Guha, USA.
“I must say that Tribeca was of great help to us. The biggest thing was the confidence I could build up with your team in a few weeks of interaction. The professional help with a personal touch. That is the way I could explain the service from Tribeca……most of your Tribeca members have almost become a part of the family in this short time. And this relationship will continue,” says Animesh Bhattacharya, Dubai.
Tribeca’s vision is to be the leading provider of day-to-day care for the elderly & those needing physical or mental rehabilitation in India. Eatfresh’s journey towards success
in the food industry
Interview with Insights Success
Q. Running a B2C venture is said to
be challenging, it is also said that
seeing success in food business is also
not easy - What made you start
Eatfresh and how has your journey
been since?
In 2015, we had built out Ovenfresh, a
50 outlet bakery chain in Chennai and
Bangalore, and were serving over 8000
customers a day. We observed the
emergence of online ordering among
Indian consumers, and realized that we
unique a unique advantage to capture
consumer needs given our operating
experience and learnings at Ovenfresh.
We knew from our experience building
a profitable business, that the
economics of this space would work
only for a full-stack model where gross
margins would be higher than 50%.
The decision to launch Eatfresh was a
straight forward one, given our
strengths and scale of the opportunity.
Rajiv Subramanian FounderEatfresh
46
JULY 2016 |
This has held us in good stead to
emerge as the fastest growing breakout
player in the full-stack space.
The last ten months with Eatfresh have
been exciting and with the efforts of a
strong team, things have worked out
very well for us. Eatfresh is growing at
a fast pace, with over 10X growth in
sales and 11 hubs added in Bangalore
since inception. We have served over
50,000 customers since our launch in
August 2015.
Q. Explain what do you mean when
you say Eatfresh is in the ‘food
technolgy’ business - we are sure it is
not as simple as putting a website
and have people order in and the
food is delivered?
FoodTech or food-commerce is a very
unique e-commerce business. Our
product catalogue changes daily, the
inventory is replenished on an hourly
basis, we produce what we sell, and
deliver in under 30 mins. That’s little
crazy for an ecommerce business isn't
it?
Unlike traditional e-commerce, we
have two huge spikes of order volume
one around 12pm for lunch and 8pm
for dinner. And, delivery has to be
done within 20-30 minutes.
So, imagine a system that has to
orchestrate taking 100s of orders each
hour, routing it to the delivery hub
closest to the customer, then helping
the team prepare and pack the right
food for the right order, and then
having a rider get it to the customer, all
within 30 minutes or so.
From the very start, we have been
focused on building a business that
outlasts individuals. Which means we
have to constantly maintain a balance
between efficiency and hyper growth.
Rich data helps us in all aspects; for
example, in market it helps with
deciding what the referral reward
program should be or which locality
we should do our leaflet distribution.
We use predictive analytics to manage
production on an hourly basis across
all delivery hubs.
We mess up one in every few thousand
orders; but, it works mostly because
we work around how tightly our
systems are integrated, facilitating
seamless data flows from one app to
another. Order and other consumer
data flows seamlessly through to
planning, sourcing of each ingredient,
and to production control as all our
recipes are 100% system integrated.
Q. Your counterparts have opened
(and shut) their service in more than
one city - you have been in the game
for 10 months and are still in one
city - Why so.
We have been running multi-city
operations for our Oven Fresh brand in
Chennai and Bangalore for the past
three years. Based on this experience,
we believe that achieving in-city
penetration is a true proof of scale, and
is our current focus. In addition,
ground work for expansion of Eatfresh
into Chennai is being laid. We have
recently signed up 16,000 sq ft space
in Chennai to expand our operations
there.
47
JULY 2016 |
Q. In our research and even talking
to you, you stress on ‘Chef Made
Meals’ - explain it to us
Eatfresh.com is an online food
commerce platform, serving a daily
changing menu of chef-made meals,
salads, desserts and beverages. Our
technology-led full-stack approach
combines quality supply, scalability &
great unit economics. Our curated, 5-
star quality chefs operate from our
commercial kitchens and we control
the supply chain from procurement up
to last mile delivery. Our model
differentiates itself by being Chef-
centric in approach -They are
recognized both on our site and on
each meal box served, fostering a
relationship of feedback and curation
between the customers and the Chefs.
Q. In our conversation you shared
that team ‘Eatfresh’ is not regular -
How do you hire?
For managerial levels we look for
individuals who are passionate about
the business model and what we want
to achieve. We have found that self-
starters with an ability to function
independently work best in our setup.
For junior levels, a good attitude and a
desire to learn are key areas we
measure for.
Q. According to you, what is the
future of ‘foodtechnology’ business
in India?
Proof of scalability in the full-stack
space already exists - Jubilant
Foodworks (Dominos India) became a
unicorn long before the word was in
vogue, and similar opportunities
abound in virtually every food vertical
in India.
The secret ingredient that dramatically
changes the economics of the space is
the ‘Full-stack’ approach to on-
demand food. Full-stack food players
operate a tightly controlled supply
chain, managing everything from cloud
kitchens right up to the last mile
delivery to the customer. By doing so,
we at Eatfresh are able to control and
guarantee every aspect of the customer
food experience, from ingredients,
hygiene, packaging to delivery times.
