September 2018 SCCC Business of the Month: CCGGA Central Coast Greenhouse Growers Association (CCGGA) started in the late 1980s. It currently repre- sents approximately 17 local nursery businesses in the general Nipomo, Arroyo Grande, and Santa Maria area. Many of these busi- nesses are family owned and operated and have been located on the Central Coast for 20-30 years. Many of the grower/owners live on their nursery sites, and in all cases, the man- agement staff of these busi- nesses are residents of our local area making CCGGA truly a homegrown organiza- tion with its roots in the local community. CCGGA acts as a good neighbor, providing information and education to neighbors, other community groups, or businesses, as well as county, state, or federal agencies. The CCGGA acts on behalf of its members in resolving issues that arise with neighboring communi- ties as they work to coexist and enjoy the numerous benefits the Central Coast provides for both living and growing high-quality plants. and Nora O’Donnell. County News GB City Arroyo Grande

AG Council voted to disband

three of the eight City advi-

sory bodies: the Traffic Com-

mission, Parks & Recreation

Commission and Historical

Resources Committee in

order to streamline City

practices, re-prioritize work

and conduct business more

efficiently. Disbanding

these three advisory bodies

will result in an annual sav-

ings of $30,000 and more

importantly, will allow the re-

prioritization of 30 hours of

staff time per month to pro-

vide core services for the

community.

County Animal Shelter

plans move forward, ap-

proved by all 7 cities and

the County Board of Super-

visors, the planned new

16,000-square-feet Animal

Services facility for San

Luis Obispo County will be

designed and built near

the existing facility just off

Highway 1 between San

Luis Obispo and Morro

Bay. This project will re-

place the current deficient

building with a suitable

one that will allow for the

humane care of the ani-

mals in the County’s care

for years to come.

New Members

Train Expansion Project,

the project will cost ap-

proximately $3 million and

is funded from federal,

state, and regional grant

funds. The project will

start construction this

month with completion

expected in summer

2019. The project will

expand the current station

site, incorpo-

rate a bus passenger ar-

ea, shelter, add

40 additional parking

spaces. The station is

South County’s only train

with direct connec-

tions to SLO, LA, and San

Diego.
