That Was a Crazy Game of Poker

My project is on "That Was a Crazy Game of Poker" by O.A.R. The visual aesthetic I tried to emulate was that of a dimly lit room to make it look more inviting because of the way the song describes the poker game and its characters. I did this by trying to make it look hazy and have an orange-ish tint. My first photo goes along with part of the third and fourth lines. It is of a face, wearing sunglasses with a blank expression. He doesn't look happy or sad; you can't tell what he's thinking and you can't see his eyes so they don't give any hints either. This represents a "poker face," because at this point in the song the lyrics are describing the actual game itself. The next photo goes with the seventh and eighth lines of the first verse, which talks about the man walking into the room. The way the singer describes him, he is as a mysterious figure, because not only is he wearing black but the singer also cannot figure out his identity. The photo is a low angle shot of a silhouette, giving the impression of a mysterious, intimidating man. The photo of the man at the table goes along with the entire second verse. The singer is saying that despite the bad luck he's had, his only solution is to keep playing. This is the attitude of a gambling addict, and in the photo the man is waving a hand as if to say, "I know what I'm doing," while continuing to gamble with the other hand. The next photo uses the same type of visual imagery as an example we saw in class. The second line of the third verse talks about how he is drinking a lot, and how his vision and thinking is starting to be affected. I represented this by taking an out of focus picture of the room, to show the room "spinning," a common side effect of drinking. The final photo is a high angle shot showing the stress of the subject as he realizes he has nothing left. It goes without he last line of the third verse and the theme of the rest of the song, as this problem gambler finally hits "rock bottom."

My project is on "That Was a Crazy Game of Poker" by O.A.R. The visual

aesthetic I tried to emulate was that of a dimly lit room to make it look more

inviting because of the way the song describes the poker game and its

characters. I did this by trying to make it look hazy and have an orange-ish tint.

My first photo goes along with part of the third and fourth lines. It is of a

face, wearing sunglasses with a blank expression. He doesn't look happy or sad;

you can't tell what he's thinking and you can't see his eyes so they don't give any

hints either. This represents a "poker face," because at this point in the song the

lyrics are describing the actual game itself.

The next photo goes with the seventh and eighth lines of the first verse,

which talks about the man walking into the room. The way the singer describes

him, he is as a mysterious figure, because not only is he wearing black but the

singer also cannot figure out his identity. The photo is a low angle shot of a

silhouette, giving the impression of a mysterious, intimidating man.

The photo of the man at the table goes along with the entire second verse.

The singer is saying that despite the bad luck he's had, his only solution is to

keep playing. This is the attitude of a gambling addict, and in the photo the man

is waving a hand as if to say, "I know what I'm doing," while continuing to gamble

with the other hand.

The next photo uses the same type of visual imagery as an example we

saw in class. The second line of the third verse talks about how he is drinking a

lot, and how his vision and thinking is starting to be affected. I represented this

by taking an out of focus picture of the room, to show the room "spinning," a

common side effect of drinking.

The final photo is a high angle shot showing the stress of the subject as

he realizes he has nothing left. It goes without he last line of the third verse and

the theme of the rest of the song, as this problem gambler finally hits "rock

bottom."
