Clinical research helps us to try and understand how we can all live longer and healthier lives and the results of our research can benefit people all around the world.

Clinical research staff are able to work with staff in clinic and in-patient areas, as well as within the Clinical Research Facility, to make taking part in research as simple as possible.

We are a research active Trust, with dedicated research facilities at the Northern General Hospital, Royal Hallamshire Hospital and Weston Park Hospital. These sites provide a warm and welcoming environment for anyone wanting to take part in research.

I joined the Diabetes and Endocrine Lay Panel because I have diabetes and hence I am interested in Diabetes Research in particular.

From the Panel, I have learnt more about diabetes and about the research process, and about some very interesting individual research projects.

I have enjoyed participating and also enjoyed the social aspect.

Many people in South Yorkshire suffer from heart disease and we are making great strides towards improving the effectiveness of treatments that we can provide. It has been very rewarding to hear the perspectives and opinions of those who have received treatment for heart disease when designing research studies in this area and this has helped to prioritise and design studies for answering important questions.

It has been a great privilege to work alongside patients, carers and other members of communities significantly affected by HIV to develop our Lay Expert Advisory Panel (LEAP).

LEAP has provided a great resource for researchers in the wide range of HIV related research that is happening in Sheffield and across South Yorkshire HIV Network. I am grateful to LEAP for their enthusiasm and words of personal experience that have helped researchers to develop new research studies here and to participate effectively in national studies.
