For over 64 years the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County (MHA) has been providing support for individuals and their families affected by mental illness with an emphasis on mental health and wellness. Our advocacy efforts never waiver as we enhance our collaborations with community, county, and state partners to identify and close the gaps in the mental health system of care and fight the discrimination that still keeps people from seeking early intervention and treatment. This year is no different as suicide rates continue to rise and heroin addiction is affecting all of our communities. MHA continues to push for the changes necessary statewide to build resiliency in our youth and increase programs for suicide prevention. Superstorm Sandy survivors remain displaced or struggle to get back to what has been referred to as the new normal. Immediately after Sandy the MHA took the lead in providing supportive counseling to members of our communities. In 2014, the MHA continues these services through our Sandy Wellness programs at four locations throughout the county. As our
Robin Hood Foundation grant came to a close this year, we were fortunate to receive a NJ Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund grant allowing us to expand the Red Bank Resource Network to provide Sandy related programs. Our outreach to returning military service members, veterans, and their families continues through the development of two free monthly support groups. These groups are available for families of active duty service members or veterans experiencing emotional difficulties as well as those who have lost a loved one to suicide or casualty of war.
MHA’s progressive and prevention focused growth would not be possible without the tireless dedication of our Board Members, Donors, Volunteers, and team of professionals.
