Family Day. I pray that we have a wonderful celebration and that we all find blessing in our families and our parish family. We are blessed to be part of a family that celebrates 95 years as a parish. This wondrous his-tory overshadows any individual pastor or particular organization. We are tru-ly blessed to part of something so spe-cial. There have been challenges to face and obstacles to overcome in the visit to Nicaragua, but nothing in caparison to the blessing. Our trip on Monday was to a new parish in the town of Nan-daime. We began with Mass at 7am in the old cemetery chapel, the new parish’s church. We were then accom-panied by Fr. Martin and a delegation of about 15 from the parish to go to a very isolated community about an hour away; 45 minutes of the drive was on a very rough dirt road. Fr. Martin has 42 such communities in the parish. He often spends more on gas to get to the communities than he could hope to receive from the collec-tion. Yet he and the team were so en-thusiastic and welcoming to the group. Tuesday, I attended a clergy gathering which was held before the ordination Mass. It was a very special day.

REFLECTIONS FOR THIS WEEK’S READINGS

It would be difficult to find a starker contrast be-

tween two people in such proximity as the rich man

and Lazarus. The rich man had everything he

wanted; Lazarus had nothing. But the contrast is

just as stark after they die. Now Lazarus has every-

thing he ever wanted, resting in the bosom of Abra-

ham. The rich man has only suffering, living in tor-

ment. The divider between the sides has changed

as well. Where once it was a door, which could

have easily been opened, now it is a great chasm,

impossible to cross. How the rich man must wish

he had crossed the doorway when he had the

chance!• The rich man lived in the sanctuary of his

mansion, ignorant and dismissive of life beyond its

walls. Only after he dies does he seemingly be-

come aware of Lazarus. Ironically, now it is he who

is begging the other to relieve his torment, at least

just a little. He also begs Abraham to send him to

his family’s house to warn them. Only when he is

suffering does he open his heart to others. In life,

his wealth allowed him to be complacent, to ignore

family and neighbor alike.• In his letter to Timothy,

Paul paints a picture of God “who dwells in unap-

proachable light, and whom no human being has

seen or can see” (1 Timothy 6:16). It is incumbent

on us, then, to see God in our neighbor, in the

stranger, in each other, in those who are approach-

able, who are visible, who can be seen. Too often

we overlook these people entirely or overlook God

within them. The rich man failed to see Lazarus un-

til it was too late, even though he was right before

his very eyes.

Question of the Week: Who in our world do

I fail to see who is in need of assistance and

compassion? This week, will I take the time

and make the effort to see God in their faces?

Every First Friday of the Month we have the opportunity to sit with Jesus for a personal visit. This is call Adora-tion of the Blessed Sacrament. We begin with Mass at 8:00 a.m. and then we have the opportunity to stay for Adoration all day. If you are already an active visitor, we thank you for keeping our Lord company, He loves that you are spending time with Him. However, we know that there may be times when we cannot visit on our commit-ted time schedules, and when this happens, please call Rosalind at 341-2073 or Charlene at 347-3482 so that a substitute can be called in to sit with Jesus, we never want Him to be alone. If you are not a regular visitor, please consider taking the time to visit for an hour, you will be blessed and will see how fast this hour passes by when you sit and talk with Jesus. Reflexiones sobre las lecturas de hoy: Sería difícil encontrar un contraste más prominente entre dos personas tan próximas en distancia como el hombre rico y Lázaro. El hombre rico tenía todo lo que quería; Lázaro no tenía nada. Pero el contraste se hace aún más prominente después que mueren. Ahora Lázaro tiene todo lo que pudo desear y descansa en el seno de Abraham. El rico sólo tiene sufrimiento y vive en un tor-mento. La división entre ambas partes también ha cam-biado: antes era una puerta, que pudo abrirse fácilmente, ahora hay un gran abismo imposible de cruzar. ¡Cuánto desearía el rico haber abierto su puerta cuando todavía tenía la oportunidad! • El rico vivió en el santuario de su mansión, ignorante y despreocupado de lo que había más allá de sus paredes. Sólo después de su muerte pare-ce darse cuenta de la presencia de Lázaro. Irónicamente, ahora es él quien le ruega al otro que le alivie por lo me-nos un poco su tormento. También le ruega a Abraham que envíe a Lázaro a la casa familiar para advertir a sus familiares. Durante su vida su riqueza le permitió sentir-se seguro e ignorar tanto a sus familiares como a su pró-jimo. Es sólo cuando sufre, que puede ser capaz de abrir su corazón a los demás.• Pablo en su carta a Timoteo nos describe a Dios como “el que habita en una luz inac-cesible y a quien [ninguna persona] ha visto ni puede ver” (1 Timoteo 6, 16). Nos incumbe a nosotros, pues, ver a Dios en nuestro prójimo, en el desconocido, en ca-da uno de nosotros, en todas aquellas personas que nos son accesibles y visibles. Demasiado a menudo pasamos por alto completamente a esas personas y así también pasamos por alto a Dios, que vive en ellas. El rico no vio a Lázaro hasta que fue demasiado tarde, aunque tenía a Lázaro en sus narices. Pregunta de la semana ¿A quié-nes tengo delante de mis narices, que necesitan ayuda y compasión, y no los veo? Esta semana, ¿dedicaré tiempo y esfuerzo para ver a Dios en sus rostros?

Día familiar. Ruego que tengamos una celebración maravillosa y que todos encontremos bendiciones en nuestras familias y en nuestra familia Parroquial. Somos bendecidos de ser parte de una familia que celebra 95 años como Parro-quia. Esta maravillosa historia eclipsa a cualquier pastor individual u organiza-ción particular. Estamos verdaderamente bendecidos por ser parte de algo tan especial. Ha habido desafíos que enfrentar y obs-

táculos que superar en la visita a Nica-

ragua, pero nada en comparación con la

bendición. Nuestro viaje el lunes fue a

una nueva parroquia en la ciudad de

Nandaime. Comenzamos con misa a las

7 de la mañana en la antigua capilla del

cementerio, la nueva Iglesia Parroquial.

Entonces fuimos acompañados por el

Padre Martin y una delegación de unas

15 personas de la parroquia para ir a

una comunidad muy aislada a una hora

de distancia. 45 minutos del camino

fueron en un camino de tierra muy du-

ro. El Padre Martin tiene 42 comunida-

des de este tipo en la Parroquia. A me-

nudo gasta más en gas para llegar a las

comunidades de lo que podría esperar

recibir de la colección. Sin embargo, él

y el equipo fueron tan entusiastas y aco-

gedores con el grupo. El martes, asistí a

una reunión del clero que se celebró

antes de la Misa de ordenación. Fue un
