TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION :

Step 1 : Q : The Seagate Firmware file downloaded appears to be a folder and not a file. A : Safari has unzip the bin file for you as it deemed it as a safe file. Uncheck the “Open Safe” files option in Safari Preference as indicated in Step 1.

Step 2 :Q : Which is my first partition ?A : If you are unsure, you should keep it as 1 single partition. In Disk Utility (Mac) or Disk Management(Win), the first partition is usually on top (in mac) or left (in windows).

Step 3 : Q : Must I really remove the USM Connector ?A : YES! The USM (Universal Storage Module) from Seagate prevents your Wireless to start on your GoFlex Satellite or Wireless Plus. Seagate used the connector to cut off the WiFi. It’s a fast and easy way to do so rather than a switch. If you don’t believe us, try using the GFS or W+ and then plug in the connector. Your WiFi drive is unmounted.

Step 4 : Q : Must I really wait for 5 minutes. A : YES. Please do so. Be patient. It is only 5 minutes. Seagate documents it down as 3 minutes but we are the guys who are more careful. Your 3 minutes may be only 2+ minutes based on the system clock.

Step 5 : Q : How do I know if I have reset my GoFlex Satellite or Wireless Plus ?A :First, you should feel a depression when you poke it once. Secondly, Step 6 will prove that you did it correctly.

Step 6 : Q : I can’t find the default WiFI Name. A1 : On the Macs, they tend to cache the previously scan wifi network. Turn off WiFi and scan again. A2 : Did you poke the reset hole ?

Q : I can still see my previous network name : A : On the Macs, they tend to cache the previously scan wifi network. Turn off WiFi and scan again. PCs might get this issue as well. Turn off WiFi on your PC / Mac and Scan again.

Step 7 : Q : How do I know if the unit is powered off.A : On the GFS, Press and hold for a few seconds. On the W+. the power off seemed faster. But You really need to make sure the drive is no longer spinning. You can feel the drive spinning if you have not power it down.

Step 8 : Q : The system told me that I don’t have permission to the forum.A : The administrator has not granted access for you. Contact [email protected] for access. Provide your email address where payment is made and your username.

Page 12: Thank You for purchasing our firmware. This guide aims to ...hackseagatesatellite.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/3x… · Thank You for purchasing our firmware. This guide

Step 9 : Q : My md5 checksum fail. A : Your downloaded file is incomplete. Please do not use it. Download the file again until your md5 checksum matches.

Step 10 : Q : The mounting of the ISO file failed.A : The ISO file is corrupted. Please make sure you perform a md5 checksum on it as instructed on step 9.

Step 11 : Q : I cannot copy the 2 files into the GFS or W+ A : This error typically affects only the Mac Users. All Macs are only about to read NTFS partition which is what your GFS or W+ is formatted as default. You should installed the Paragon NTFS Driver provided by Seagate. You can download the seagate provided version that works only on Seagate Drives @ http://www.seagate.com/support/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/backup-plus-desk/ntfs-driver-for-mac-os-master-dl/

If you would like all NTFS formatted drives to be writable on your Mac, we strongly recommend Paragon NTFS Driver available from Paragon Software @ http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/

Step 12 : Same reason why in Step 3

Step 13 : Should not have any issues powering up your unit. Make sure there’s enough power. Plug in the DC USB Cable and NOT the USB SATA Data to charge.

Step 14 : Hey. It worked in Step 6 didn’t it? Use the same troubleshooting tips in Step 6.

Step 15 : Terminal is built into Mac. Command Prompt is built into Windows. You should not have too much of a hard time locating them.

For Mac, You can go to Applications , Utilities and find Terminal.appFor Windows, you can go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt

Step 16 : Q : In my windows command line, it tells me that command not recognized when i type telnet. A : Microsoft remove telnet as part of the standard installation since Windows 7. You will need to enable it again. Check out this article by Microsoft on how to enable it back .http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/910.how-to-enable-telnet-client-in-windows-7.aspx

Q: I have telnet installed but it says cannot connect to 172.25.0.1A : Have you connected to your GoFlex Satellite or Wireless Plus network? If your computer has both wired and wireless connection, please unplug your Wired connection and try again.

Page 13: Thank You for purchasing our firmware. This guide aims to ...hackseagatesatellite.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/3x… · Thank You for purchasing our firmware. This guide

Q : I am connected to the GoFlex Satellite or Wireless Network. But telnet still says cannot be connected to 172.25.0.1A : Can you try to ping 172.25.0.1 to see if you are able to “see” the unit ? Launch your web browser and it will automatically redirect you to the original seagate firmware page. Go to settings and select restore factory settings.

Q : My GoFlex Satellite IP address is not 172.25.0.1A : You are on the wrong version of the GoFlex Satellite Firmware. It must be 1.3.6.001 before you can proceed with our mod. For Wireless Plus user, the default IP address is already at 172.25.0.1

Step 17 : Q : I get an error that I am unable to go to sda1A : For Mac Users, it is likely that you have formatted the drive as NTFS but the partition scheme has been changed to GUID. Please format it back to NTFS with partition scheme of Master Boot Record. If you are not seeing that you are in sda1, we highly recommend that you reformat your GoFlex Satellite into 1 single partition in NTFS and Master Boot Record Partition Scheme.

Step 18 : Q : I am in sda1 and I performed the ls command. But I cannot locate the 2 mod files.A : You have placed the mod in the wrong partition.

Step 19 : Q : It says command not found. A : Did you check that you have those 2 files in Step 18?

Q : It tells me the mod cannot be proceed.A :Looks like you did not restore your GoFlex Satellite or Wireless Plus back to factory default firmware. When our firmware detects and irregularity in your firmware, we will not proceed as it will brick your unit if you forced it to do so.

Q : It tells me timeout.A : You have to press y and then enter within 15 seconds when it starts prompting you.

Step 20 : Q : System did not reboot.A : It should reboot itself and your telnet session would have ended. If not, can you copy all the text that you see in the telnet session to [email protected] for further diagnostics on whether your mod is complete.

Step 21 : Q : I can see plus or gfs as SSID and there is no indication that it protected with a password. When I try to join, it fails.A : Please wait patiently for 5 minutes after our mod is completed. As the system reboots, we are making changes to it so that your GFS / W+ will have either gfs or plus as the SSID and there is a default password of 1234567890. Please be patient.

Step 22 : Q : Can I use IE or FirefoxA : Unfortunately, we will only support Safari and Chrome since it’s webkit based browser.

Page 14: Thank You for purchasing our firmware. This guide aims to ...hackseagatesatellite.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/3x… · Thank You for purchasing our firmware. This guide

Q : I can access the interface but I can’t see any of my files.A : There are also many files that we have placed at the root directory of your GoFlex Satellite or Wireless Plus during the mod process. In order to ensure that you do not delete some files accidentally, we have created a default Data folder for you to place all of your data inside. This will help keep it neat. If you feel that you still want the access to your root folder, simple go to our interface page, go to settings, system, under Web Server Setup, remove the “Data” from the Root Web Browsing Directory as shown.

We try our best to put down as much in detail as possible in this documentation. We will try to update this documentation as we gather more feedback from you as our user.

Please send all feedback to [email protected]

Thanks again for purchasing our mod firmware. We really appreciate it.
