We urge you to become familiar with the following Emergency Response Procedures and the
evacuation map contained in this directory. It is highly unlikely that this information will
become necessary during your stay; however, you are encouraged to take a few minutes to
review the following procedures.
The Cannon Beach Fire District has a community warning system. In an emergency situation,
you will hear a siren with a high – low pitch followed by an announcement giving information
and instructions regarding the emergency at hand.
Power Outage
The main building is equipped with an auxiliary generator which will power the entire building.
Limited auxiliary is available in the Carriage House. Carriage House guests will be relocated to
the main building based on availability. During a power outage the Carriage House fireplaces
are fully functional. The switch to turn on your fireplace is located on the wall to the side of
the unit. Hot water is available for showering, however; the Jacuzzi will not function during a
power outage.
Every guest room is equipped with a battery operated lantern which is located on the shelf in
your closet. Additional flashlights are available at the front desk.

Emergency Response Procedures
Fire Safety
• Please note the location of the nearest exit, fire extinguisher, and fire alarm on your floor.
• If you discover a fire, please stay calm. Go to the nearest fire alarm and sound the alarm.
• If you smell smoke from an undetermined origin, call the front desk by dialing “0” from
your room or nearest house phone.
• Your safety comes first. If you are in doubt about the seriousness of any fire, sound the
alarm and evacuate the hotel.
• Avoid getting into a situation where the fire is between you and an exit.
• Never use the elevators in the event of a fire. Elevators may become stuck in fires, and shafts
may become smoke chimneys.
• In the event of a fire, always feel the door before opening it. If the door feels hot, do not
open it.
• If smoke is coming from under the door, wedge wet towels at the base of the door to
prevent smoke from entering the room. Cover all air vents with wet towels.
• If you must pass through a smoke-filled barrier or smoke-filled room, place a wet towel or
cloth over your mouth and nose, then crawl along the floor. The coolest and freshest air
is closest to the floor.
• If you wish to evacuate your room, please proceed to the nearest exit sign, move cautiously
to the ground floor, and exit toward the parking lot across from the Lobby. Employees will
be in the parking area to assist you.
• If your building has fire sprinklers, they will be automatically activated if they are over fire
or extreme heat. All guest rooms have electronically operated smoke detectors.

Tsunami Safety
A tsunami is a series of large sea waves usually caused by an earthquake. The waves travel quickly
across the ocean, sometimes crossing the entire Pacific Ocean. As tsunamis enter shallow water
near land, they increase in height and can be extremely dangerous. A tsunami is not one wave,
but a series of waves. It can occur any time of day or night. Experts believe that a tsunami caused
by an earthquake near the Oregon Coast could strike within 5 minutes of an earthquake. If you
feel an earthquake, you should immediately move inland to higher ground and a safe area (see
evacuation route on the next page). Waves generated from a tsunami may continue to come in
for several hours. Please wait until local officials issue an “all clear.”
