Educators in the Babies Room have been assisting the children in the development of their fine and gross motor movement. Each day they love to go outdoors riding bikes, climbing, playing in the sandpit and exploring their natural environment. During Nature Play Week the children participated in a nature walk to find and collect nature items including leaves, sand and sticks. They enjoyed using these items and have included them into their play with dinosaurs outside. The dinosaurs stomped all over the leaves and the woodchips and crunched them up. After it was scrunched the children showed interest in looking at the scrunched up leaves and picking it up between their fingers. Educators extended on children’s interest by creating a variety of art activities which included different textures and different tools to create their art such as gluing crepe paper and tissue paper as well as using building blocks to paint. Our artworks look great hanging up in the room so please stop by to have a look! EYLF 4.1.2: Are curious and enthusiastic participants in their learning. NQS 1.1: An approved learning framework informs the development of a curriculum that enhances each child’s

learning and development.

During the month of April the children in the Toddlers Room were busy creating lots of art and craft projects. One special occasion was of course Easter! The children celebrated by creating their very own yellow chicks. Educators set up the art and craft area for the children in a large area so they were able to explore texture through using the glue and crepe paper in a large group. Using a large brush they confidently dipped it into the glue pot and spread the glue around their paper. Once they had finished spreading their glue they used their fingers to grab some yellow crepe paper to stick onto the chicks. Some of the toddlers were able to correctly recognise the colour of the crepe paper they were using to glue onto their artwork…

”this is yellow.” All of the hard work with our colour recognition is paying off.

Come and visit our room and have a look at all of our wonderful artwork we have been creating! EYLF 5.3.3: Use the creative arts such as gluing and sticking to express ideas and

make meaning. EYLF 5.1.3: Respond verbally and non-verbally to what they see, feel and touch. NQS 1.1.1: Curriculum decision making contributes to each child’s learning and

development outcomes in relation to their identity, connection with community, wellbeing, and confidence as learners and effectiveness as communicators.

Some of the older children in the Kindies Room have recently been showing great interest in writing their own names. Whilst sitting down drawing, the children start to write their names before starting their drawings. Educators assist the children when required and lots of encouragement is offered. To help the children with this new and very exciting interest educators have set up a writing corner. The writing corner includes name cards for all children as well as signs so children can see how to hold a pencil. The children are able to find their names on the felt board because it also has their photo on it which is a fun way to recognise their own names. Through this the younger children have also shown great interest and educators are assisting them to achieve their goals. With this being said, we would like to welcome some of the children who are currently transitioning from the Toddlers Room. They have all adapted to the Kindies Room routines very well and seem to enjoy the learning programs we offer to them. If you have any questions regarding your child’s transition process please don’t hesitate to ask. EYLF 5.2.2: View printed visuals and texts and respond confidently. EYLF 5.2.5: Begin to understand; literacy and the concepts of print and the way they are structured. NQS 1.1.2: Each child’s current knowledge, ideas, culture, abilities, and interests are the foundation of the program.

As the seasons change we will start our new Winter Menu in May. We love to hear your comments about our menu’s so if you have any feedback regarding our Summer Menu please let us know, or if you have any questions about our Winter Menu please don’t hesitate to ask. The National Quality Standard sets a national benchmark for the quality of education and care services. It also gives services and families a better understanding of a quality service. This enables families to make informed decisions about the services providing education and care to their child. The National Quality Standard is a key aspect of the National Quality Framework. It brings together the seven key quality areas that are important to outcomes for children.

For the first time Australia has a National Quality Standard linked to national learning frameworks that recognise children learn from birth. This includes Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (‘Early Years Learning Framework’)

The Early Years Learning Framework guides educators in developing quality programs for children. It describes the early childhood principles, practice and outcomes required to support and enhance young children’s learning from birth to five years of age, including their transition to school.

The National Quality Standard comprises of the following quality areas: QA1: Educational program and practice QA2: Children’s health and safety QA3” Physical environment QA4: Staffing arrangements QA5: Relationships with children QA6: Collaborative partnerships with families and communities QA7: Leadership and service management

At Play’s Kool we check all plants we introduce against the Poisonous

Plants list ensuring children’s safety whilst playing and working in both the

indoor and outdoor environments.

Apple trees, peach trees, apricot trees, avocado trees and even tomato plants give us delicious things to eat. But the leaves of these plants have cyanide in them. Even the seeds of apples have cyanide in them, so don’t swallow them. Potatoes are very good for you. Mashed potatoes, french fries, baked potatoes, any kind of potatoes are yummy! Don’t ever try to eat the tops of a potato (the green part that grows on top of the ground) OR a green potato. The tops of potato plants and green skin or flesh on a potato have solanine in them. Solaline is a poison substance in potato tops and unripe potatoes. It can kill you very quickly if you eat it. These are not the only poisonous plants, so remember…unless your parents tell you something is safe to eat DO NOT EAT IT!

The poisonous plant list can be found on the Kidsafe website
