Thailand

The size of Thailand is about 514,000 square km, and the population is close to 66 million. It is bordering

with Burma in the north and west, with Laos and Cambodia in the east and with Malaysia in the south.

Thailand is divided into four regions: The mountainous areas in the north, the Khorat Plateau, also called

Isan in the north - east, the plains in the middle of the country and the Malay Peninsula in the south.

Thailand's northern areas consist of mountains, with Doi Inthanon at 2,576 meters as the highest point.

Mountain chains are pierced by lush river valleys, and a lot of vegetables and fruits are only be grown in

this part of Thailand. The Khorat Plateau, is bordered in the east by the Mekong River. This area is the

driest part of Thailand, and people living here have developed their own traditional culture, which among

other things can be heard in their music and tasted in their spicy food dishes. Thailand's central parts

consist mainly of the flat river valley of the Chao Phraya river. In these areas, north of Bangkok, the

country's main agricultural areas, called "Thailand’s rice bowl” are located. Several channels have been

constructed for the purpose of irrigation of the wide spread rice fields. In the south, the country narrows

down to Kra Isthmus, before the land widens out towards the Malay Peninsula. In this area the landscape is

lush, tropical and hilly, framed by bright plains with broad beaches to the Gulf of Siam in the east and to the

Andaman Sea in the west. The west coast it characterized by many beautiful islands and breathtaking lime

stone formations.

Climate

The climate is tropical, from the middle of May to September there is a southwesterly, humid and warm

monsoon. From November to the middle of March the weather is dominated by a dry, cool northeastern

monsoon. In the south the climate is it is always hot and humid. With mountains in the east and west

Thailand, except the southern regions, avoids the major monsoon rainfalls. The driest costal area is the

east coast between Bangkok and Rayong.

Religion

Buddhism is the largest religious orientation, about 95% of the population professes to this. Buddhism has

been the state religion since the 1200's, and both the society and culture is greatly influenced by the

religion. The majority of the population professes to the Theravada direction of Buddhism. According to the

constitution, Buddhist, the State and the Monarchy have always been closely linked. The Buddhist Era,

which starts at the year of Buddha’s death, is often used in parallel with the western Era.

About 5 % of the population are Muslims and the majority of the Muslims are living in the south of Thailand

Pattaya / Jomtien

Pattaya is a city in the Chonburi Province, located on the eastern seaboard of Thailand. The population is

estimated at 100.000. A lot of the people living in the area are not registered as inhabitants as they come

from other parts of Thailand to find work in the city. That is why the exact number is not easy to estimate

and can vary a lot. In addition, Pattaya is visited by around 5 million tourists every year, and the city can be

very busy, specially in the winter season. There are also a lot of expatriates living in this area. Pattaya is

one of the most famous tourist destinations in Thailand and present itself with long sandy beaches and with

a great variety of leisure activities. In addition Pattaya has numerous restaurants, serving all kinds of

international food in addition to traditional Thai dishes. For those seeking late evening activities, Pattaya is

not lagging behind. Also worthwhile to mention are the international golf courses, the Tiger Zoo, the

Crocodile Farm and Nongh Nooch Tropical Garden. Originally, Pattaya was a small fishing village until the

rich people of Bangkok "discovered" the place in the 1960's and began to use the area for recreation

purposes. Not long after, during the war in South – East Asia, American soldiers built an airbase at Uta

Phao and Pattaya became a "Rest and Recreation" (R & R) place for American soldiers. The town grew

rapidly, not at least because of the nightlife. When the Americans left the area after the Vietnam War, the

town was thrown into an economical crisis. After some time the place was discovered by European tourism

and the development towards the city we know today started.

Tips on how to behave in Thailand

Thailand is called the "land of smiles". Thai people are incredibly friendly and helpful, and it's easy to get

along with them - the easiest way is to smile and laugh a lot. Since they are Buddhists, they are also an

amazingly tolerant people, but there are still some taboos, and most apply to the Monarchy and Buddhism.

Visitors should be particularly respectful in temples and in front of Buddha statues.

Thai people are sympathetic and patient with visitors from outside. But some things are important to

remember:

Always show respect for the King and the Monarchy. For Thai people, these are almost sacred, and no

criticism is tolerated. To criticize or defame the Monarchy can be considered an insult to the majesty that

can lead to long prison terms.

The Thai national anthem is played in many public places at 8 am and at 6 pm in the evening. Observe

your surroundings! If people stop up and eventually rise to standing positions when the national anthem is

played, you should do the same.

If you go to the movies, the national anthem is played before the film begins. While this is played,

everybody in the audience are standing until it is completed.

Also always show respect for Buddhism, temples and Buddhist monks.

Never visit never a temple dressed in shorts and t-shirt, it is considered to be inappropriate.

You should avoid touching peoples head or hair. This is considered to be insulting as it is the highest part

of the body and for Thai this is important. Similarly, the feet are the bottom part of the body. Thus, never

use your foot to point at somebody or something or move something.

Women should not be topless on the beach. In public places such as buses, shops, and restaurants men

should also wear something on their upper body. Most Thai people find half naked people annoying, and

for many it is insulting.

If you get into situations when in your home country you, would find it appropriate to raise your voice or

express strong dissatisfaction, in Thailand you should try to replace this with a smile. This is not always

easy, but far more productive. For example, if you arrive at your hotel to find that something is not right with

your reservation, showing anger will in such situations do you "dangerous", that is to say you are an

individual who creates a situation where those involved run the risk of losing face. In short, the Thai

reaction may be to do nothing, and maybe disappear from the scene. This does not help you at all. If you

manage to stay calm - and smile - it's easier to get help and to give you help!

Penalties, crime and Police.

Thailand has strict penalties if you get caught for any criminal offense, especially when it comes to drugs

and weapons. Depending on the offense, the penalties can vary from a few years in prison to death

penalty. This applies to possession / use and sale of drugs. if you want to use drugs, including cannabis,

don’t do it in Thailand, the police have informers in many places reporting to the police who is buying drugs

(including cannabis).

There are also strict penalties for having sex with persons under the age of 18.

Rental Conditions

Welcome to us in Thailiv.com - we will do our utmost to ensure that you will have a pleasant stay!

As our guest, it is important that you are familiar with our conditions and other matters, since you have accepted to

stay with us.

When booking, you will receive an invoice per. mail, email, or confirmation of online booking. All rental fees shall be

paid prior to arrival. (Unless otherwise agreed in advance)

General:

Bookings made by telephone, e-mail or via online booking is binding for both Thailiv.com and guests, when orders are

confirmed.

Checkout is set to: 1100 and check-in at: 15.00. - If nothing else is agreed.

Deposit:

Thailiv.com the standard deposit.

Payment:

Reservations must be paid within due date.

Cancellations:

1-4 weeks prior to arrival date are charged 25% of the rent.

2-7 days prior to arrival date are charged 50% of the rent.

One day prior to arrival date are charged 100% of the rent.

Cancellations due to illness:

It is the responsibility of the guest to have a travel insurance covering the cost of a cancellation due to illness.

Claims:

Claims / complaints must be reported to the reception as soon as possible.

Responsibility during the stay:

The guest is liable for damage to the property and the inventory. If there are any damages or losses this must be

reported immediately to the reception. Smoking is not allowed in the apartments. Inventory / equipment must not be

exchanged with or loaned to other apartments. Out of consideration to other guests, please respect the House rules

for the area. You will find these rules posted on a board in the Common areas.

At departure - cleaning:

There is a mandatory cleaning at least once a week. All guests undertake to leave the apartment in tidy condition.

Garbage should be removed and placed in trash cans outside the building.

Prices and seasons

The prices are listed under each apartment in this brochure. The seasons are divided into the following:

High season starts on 1 November and ends on 31 March, low season from 1 April to 31 October.

Reception

Thailiv.com has reception in Somsiri New Garden. It is important that you use this reception, not in the reception of the New Nordic. The reception is normally open every day from 8.00 to 17.00. At other hours please use Somsiri Garden Bar. In emergencies contact the guards that are always present near your apartment.

Internet Most apartments have wireless Internet, login codes are marked on the modem, or on a separate note in the apartment.

Television

All apartments are equipped with TV with local and international channels, most of them also have DVD players

Air Conditioning

Normal consumption of electricity is included in the rental price, unless otherwise agreed. Turn off air conditioning when you leave the apartment, in the rooms you do not stay in, and when you have the doors or windows open. By abnormally high consumption you will be charged for usage.

Animals

Unless otherwise agreed, it is not allowed to keep animals in our apartments.

Some practical information:

On arrival

It is important that you inform us of when you expect to you arrive at the apartment in order for us to meet you in the

apartment. If you use our shuttle driver he will keep us informed.

During the stay

Study the house rules and respect them.

Smoking is not allowed in all apartments.

Furniture and equipment must not be replaced / loaned to other apartments.

On departure

The apartments should be left tidy - and prepared for cleaning.

If you have ordered the shuttle bus, you will be picked up outside the building.

Take out the garbage - so it does not smell – there are rubbish bins outside apartment complexes.

What was in the apartment on arrival shall also be in the apartment on departure.

Fire alarm and instructions

Some apartment complexes are equipped with fire alarm systems. In this case, sensors are mounted in the

apartments.

Important: Fixed sensors in the ceiling and other alarm equipment should never be taken down, removed or covered.

To avoid fire please observe the following:

Check Coffee Machine – Must be turned off after use.

Hot Plates - Do not dry or cook.

Barbeque – Open fire on the terrace is forbidden.

Be careful when cooking.

Smoking is not allowed in the apartment - Smokers must go outside.

Please check your evacuation routes.

In case of fire - leave the apartment and make sure the alarm is triggered so that the other residents and the fire

department is notified. Then contact the guards and the reception.
