The Heart and Soul of St. Luke  

One of my favorite roles at St. Luke Catholic School was as the middle school religion teacher. When I agreed  to this position change, I had no idea the journey I was embarking on. You see, I did not really know a lot  about theology, prayer, or the Bible. I was a “cradle Catholic”, but I did not really know enough to teach it. I  spent my summer getting certified and reading as much as I could to prepare myself for my new role for the  new year. The journey began.  

Teaching middle school is a magical experience. I used to hear all the time, “You teach middle school?”, and I  would get “the look”. You know the look, the one where it is sorrow laced with horror. Well, that look was  unwarranted; teaching religion in middle school was one of the best blessings. It changed my life forever.  You see, when you are encountering God all day long, your soul evolves. Your soul grows in knowledge and  experience, and when your soul knows more, it feels more. You begin to recognize God in all things, you see  the Holy Spirit moving around you, and you experience Christ as an influential friend. You start to walk the  walk with God.  

My students and I embarked on a journey of discovery together. We were building a relationship with our  God together. We prayed, we explored the Bible, we learned about our mission as Catholics to bring the  Good News to everyone around us. The most important part of our journey was the discovery of how the  Holy Trinity works in our lives. Once I realized what it was, I began to see it working all around me. My heart  was open to seeing how God works in our world, and that was the most magical journey I had ever been on.  

God the Father is pure love. God has one plan for us, it is for us to be happy. The only way we can truly be  happy is if we have God in our hearts. To help us understand this plan, God sent his only Son. Jesus came to  shine the light on how we can truly be happy. Our souls long for a relationship with our God, and Jesus came  to show us how to make that happen. The Holy Spirit is the Light that shows us the way. This is the heart  and soul of St. Luke. We are now on a magical journey together to not only shine the light on the way for our  children, but for ourselves. Even though the world is facing uncertainty, we can be certain that the heart and  soul of St. Luke will beat on.

Faculty News   Welcome Monica Lopez, our new 5th grade teacher. Monica is a product of Catholic Schools, having  graduated from St. Pius X in Houston. She also graduated from OLLU with a double major in English and  History. She received a Master's Degree from St. Mary's University in Catholic School Leadership. Monica  recently worked for Holy Name for 11 years. She has been married for 16 years and is a mom to 2 dogs,  Loona and Almond. We are so excited to have such an amazing teacher join our St. Luke Family. Please help  me welcome, Mrs. Lopez. Welcome to Rebel Country!    A few faculty switches:  Please note that we made a few faculty changes for the upcoming school year.    Melissa Ozuna will be joining Linda Noriega as 4th grade teachers. We are excited to have such great talent in  our fourth grade.     We are also thrilled that Mrs. Quintanilla will follow her 4th grade children to 5th grade. She is so excited to  have the opportunity to have one more year with her students from last year.     Mr. Meyer will be joining the middle school team as the new English teacher. This will be a one year  appointment, and our plan is for him to resume in the intervention room the following year.     Mrs. Liz Gonzalez will be our new middle school religion teacher. She is very excited to lead our students on  their religious journey.    Congratulations to Rachel Medina and Loraine Driskill on getting Google Educator Level 1 certified. It is a  long difficult process, so great job, what an accomplishment.    Congratulations to Coach Rudy Loza and Coach Sandra Morales on getting certified on Infection Control  During Covid. Way to go!

Join us in congratulating Matthew  Abejuela and Andres Gonzalez,  recipients of Central Catholic High  School’s President’s Scholar Award.  This renewable scholarship recognizes  students who have demonstrated  achievement in areas of scholarship,  leadership, and moral character.
